About the host
Hosted by Giacomo Bertaina
About me: I’m a Peruvian-American who has lived, studied, and worked in many places across the Americas and the world. I’m a global citizen with a passion for the Caribbean region, its natural beauty, music, people, and laid-back lifestyle. I’m also a Cuban & Salsa music collector.
Why I’m a host: I love being a host because I love the area and decided to open and share our apartment with people around the world so they can also discover and enjoy this little paradise in the Caribbean. I know the Dominicus-Bayahibe area pretty well, I have local contacts and I’m more than happy to offer help and advice before and during your stay, including surrounding areas such as Altos de Chavon, Casa de Campo, La Romana, Higuey, Punta Cana, Bavaro, and Cap Cana. I love helping guests get to know more about the paradisiac Dominicus beach town and Bayahibe "Enchanted Town" (Pueblo Encantado).
Languages: I speak Spanish fluently too. Feel free to send me a message anytime if you have any questions, even if you’re not sure about where to stay.

Why they chose this property
Why I chose Dominicus: Dominicus is a beautiful Italian-Dominican beach town that captivated me from the first moment I saw it in 2010. I’ve visited it 6 times (the last time in February 2024) and I always want to come back for more. It offers the best of 2 different worlds and experiences: The serene and private beach town lifestyle of Dominicus and the authentic Dominican small-town lifestyle of Bayahibe (a 10-minute drive).
It’s a truly unique and very different experience from staying at an all-inclusive resort. If you like a little adventure, exploration, and curiosity, you will enjoy staying in Dominicus. There’s something magical about the area, that makes people fall in love with it and return every year or whenever they can. I feel a strong connection with this beautiful place in the Dominican Caribbean.
What I enjoy most about the neighborhood: There are many attractions and activities to enjoy in the area, such as:
- Saona Island, Catalina Island, and Catalinita, where you can admire the stunning natural scenery and wildlife of the Caribbean.
- 20+ scuba-diving sites where you can explore the underwater wonders and mysteries of the area.
- Cotubamana National Park & Natural Reserve, including caverns and caves with underground waters (Cueva del Puente, Cueva Padre Nuestro)
- Water sports, such as kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and fishing, where you can have fun and relax on the water.
- Local and Italian restaurants, cafes, shops, and public beaches in Dominicus and Bayahibe, where you can taste the delicious cuisine, shop for souvenirs, and mingle with the friendly locals and tourists.
- Local nightlife in Bayahibe.
- La Estancia Golf Club and restaurant (20-minute drive).
- Casa de Campo & Altos de Chavon in La Romana, which are only a 25-minute drive away, where you can visit the famous golf resort and the charming replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village.
Airports:
- Punta Cana (50-minute drive)
- Santo Domingo (1 hour and 10-minute drive)
