Why The Owner chose Gulf Coast

Mary Lou's has been used as a weekend getaway for family and friends for many years. After major renovations we decided list it as a rental property on VRBO and share our coastal home with visitors to the area. We are sure your memories will be wonderful.

What makes this house unique

The sun rising over the water is fantastic. There is nohting more relaxing than reading a book on the pier while you are waiting for a fish to take the bait.

Awesome View of Bay & Clean Home

  • 5 of 5

The house is cozy and surprisingly spacious in the living room. I love the layout of the house. It is small but because the bedrooms are all in the back, completely divided by the living room, the living room is so open and walkable. The French doors open up to the bay and the view is so nice! The bathrooms had nice towels that were newer than most rentals I've been to. They also color cordinate the towels with the décor in the house. The towels were a good amount (hand/bath). They were not tattered or old like other places. That is my pet peeve. I dont' understand how you can provide old torn towels to renters? The last place I was at was unbelievable.

The back patio is just the right size with plenty of lawn chairs. We were a group of 6 and we did not feel stuffy at all. The lighted pier is nice and we caught a handful of fish out there. There is also a crab trap! It looks relatively new so that is also generous of the owners to have that there. We caught some big blue sturdy meaty crabs. The second day my husband put fish heads in with the chicken and uh .. I was told that the crabs get confused with the smell and don't want it. Darn! I would of had a bunch more crab. SO, take out the fish head when you are there. lol . We also bought our kayaks and were able to put the in the water and go out on the bay. We did catch a few red drum which was nice but not too big. It is a very relaxing ride because there are no passing boats! Love that.

The house is clean and everything you need is there. The owners are very generous with sharing the household items such as paper towel roll, toilet paper, plastic utensil (a whole bag), foil, plastic wrap, house cleaners, etc, and a LOT of trash bags (not just 2 like other rental houses), and even body wash !! It was amazing. 3 whole new bottles and in each bathroom a bottle! I don't think the previous renters left that. I wouldn't. Ha ha. Even dishwashing detergent and hand soap were abundant ! I have never been in a house that has so much for the renters.

I really did enjoy this house more than other rentals in the area. Diane was a delight to work with. She was quick to respond to email or calls. Everything went smoothly. I highly recommend the house. I have great pictures but don't see a place to add that on this review. I will look and see if there is after I hit submit.

Owner's Response: Christine, thank you so much for your very complimentary review. We really strive to provide our guests with a wonderful, memorable stay at the coast. We do try to provide the essentials such as hand and shower soap and paper towel and trash bags as one less thing for guests to worry about bringing. The fishing can be great off of the pier depending on the time of year and our very bright pier light comes in handy for nighttime fishing. We are so glad we could accomodate you and hope that you will return!

Labor Day 2015

Cottage was perfect!!! We enjoyed our stay. Pier was nice. I caught a few fish and would recommend this place for a laid back vacation. Close enough but just far enough away from the city.

LOVE this little GEM

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have stayed at Mary Lou's twice now and just LOVE it! very comfy inside, all the necessities for a waterside getaway and OUTSTANDING fishing results right off the pier. Always fresh and clean smell upon arrival, beds decently comfy and NEW French doors a wonderful touch! I do wish small behaved furry friends were allowed, though!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review. We appreciate our returning guests and are so happy you caught so many big fish! We are pet lovers and wish we could allow pets, but being a waterfront property, it is difficult to keep the house clean and allergy free with wet or sandy animals! Thank you so much for your business!

Relaxed Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We love this Rockport community. We've rented weekend fishing retreats for the past 25 years 2-3 times a year and my wife actually loved the home. It had the charm where she could be a girly-girl and I could spend time fishing on the lighted pier . Whenever the wife's happy, my life is wonderful !!!!!The cold front caught us off-guard but I still managed to land a 26" redfish right off the front of the pier.We burned wood in the fireplace and the redfish made the Saturday Nite Fish-Fry !!!! We saw huge deer walking along the side of the road and the quiet neighborhood makes this a wonderful retreat. I can go back to work tomorrow with peace of mind ! Can't wait to return !!!!!!!!!

Great Birthday Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to celebrate our family September birthdays! We rode bikes looking at all the lovely houses, the guys kayaked to the bay and we fished until 3:00am each night. We had fun catching small reds, trout, croaker and 3 blue crab. I did catch one keeper trout but decided to let that and the crab go. Having the pier out your back door makes all the difference in the world. The house is fabulous and has everything you need for a comfortable stay at a great price! Make sure to take mosquito spray!

weekend away with family

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The area was quiet. We caught fish off the pier until we ran out of bait and were able to launch kayaks right in the back yard. It was a great family escape. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Mary Lou's retreat.
