Wonderful family home! Ideal for multi-family get-away! VRBO Stayed Here VRBO Rated $445 - $999 per night. mid-Week Specials Sunday - Wednesday.

About 2,000 sq ft, 4 level home with 3 bedrooms, 2 small lofts, 3 1/2 bathrooms & garage. Parking for 2 to 3 cars.

Beautifully remodeled and newly furnished East Vail private home. Your family and friends will enjoy this lovely, comfortable home. Light and bright with vaulted ceilings and beautiful mountain views. Comfortable beds await you after a hard day of mountain play. Let our mountain home be your mountain home.

The two master bedrooms each have a loft which is not included in the square footage calculation for the home. Each loft has steep, narrow stairs not suited for small children. It is suggested that children should use the bunk room. 6 of the 8 beds in the house are not in the loft, only 2 beds are in the lofts (one in each loft).

The large open living room features a 46” flat screen, cable TV above a stone fireplace and inviting leather sectional sofa, perfect for relaxing and conversation. Cable TV. Catch a beautiful après ski sunset out on the deck.

All new kitchen has premium appliances, alder cabinetry, granite counters, and heated slate floor. The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to prepare and serve a wonderful meal. The large kitchen table seats eight comfortably with additional seating for four along counter. Plenty of room for all to gather.

Bedrooms all have their own separate bathrooms, new mattresses and flat screen TVs. Bedroom #1 upstairs - has a queen bed and a spiral staircase leading up to a twin bed loft. The loft is small and ideal for an extra visitor or older child. There is also a small private deck off this bedroom. Bedroom #2 - has a queen bed. A tucked-away staircase leads up to a cozy open loft with a queen bed. The lower floor bedroom #3 (Bunkroom) - has one twin/twin bunk and one full/full bunk. The bunkroom can easily sleep 4 children of any age, a family of 5, or a group of friends. There is a separate powder room off the kitchen/living room. The house accommodates 8 to 10 very comfortably and can sleep as many as 12

Garage access and powder room are located off the entry foyer and kitchen. It is convenient and easy to pull up to the house and unload skis and gear into the garage. The garage has overflow shelving for storing anything you may you bring. There are also benches for easy changing in/out of your ski boots. The foyer has space to keep jackets, shoes, and boots warm and dry. Laundry area is located on lower level accessible through the entry foyer.

Don’t waste time driving around Vail navigating parking garages and parking lots! Don’t settle for a dinky condo with limited parking. Experience the convenience of East Vail. Our home is located at the western end of East Vail on the free Town of Vail bus route with easy freeway and frontage road access. East Vail’s only market is just a short walk from the house. Gore Creek and the Vail bike path are directly across the street. Walk to many different trailheads. There’s ample parking for two cars+. Make the most of your vacation dollars in this family-friendly home.

The Pitkin Creek Bus Stop is about 200 yards from our front door. The East Vail overflow parking lot is adjacent to our neighborhood at the East Vail I 70 exit. The Bus runs every 15 minutes during peak season hours. It is very easy to catch the bus and we rarely use our car once we arrive at our house.

This is the home you will want to come back to year after year..

About Richard Grodahl -

The house is co-owned by the Grodahl and Vogel families. The Grodahl's live in Orange County, CA. We attended CU Boulder and developed a love of the Rockies that we have passed down to our children. Katie Vogel, and her husband Brian, also have strong ties to Colorado. Katie is a CU grad and Brian grew up in Evergreen. He graduated from Notre Dame, but we don't hold it against him. The Vogels and their children live in the Denver Area. We have a long history of vacationing together. Co-owning a mountain home has been a rewarding family experience. Our children especially enjoy spending time together in Vail. Our familes love to ski, hike, and bike. Vail is the perfect mountain destination! World class skiing and a terrific village setting make Vail our home away from home.

Richard Grodahl - purchased this house in 2011

Why Richard Grodahl - chose Vail

We wanted a home in a great location with plenty of room for family and friends. The four of us spent a year visiting different mountain towns throughout Colorado and Utah. Vail quickly rose to the top of the list. After staying in many locations throughout Vail, we found East Vail to be the best for many reasons. Easy freeway and frontage road access, convenient Town to Vail bus access, nearby grocery store, Gore Creek and trail access are just a few of the features which make Bighorn Lodge a great choice for vacationing.

What makes this house unique

Run, bike, or cross-country ski along beautiful Gore Creek. Grab your fly rod and cast a few in nearby Gore Creek. Catch the free TOV bus for a short ride into Vail Village or Lionshead. Relax and enjoy this comfortable, peaceful, and beautiful family home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Richard and Emily for allowing us to use your wonderful home. We all had the best time and will not soon forget our stay. Very nice to meet you Emily and we did use the tubes and they were wonderful on the creek. Amazing how you have covered every base for your guests. Truly you are great hosts and my family all said need to return to Bighorn. We checked out at 10:00 and hope we left all neat and orderly. Once again thank you for letting us share the house in the Vail Valley. We will for sure give a well deserved glowing review online.

VRBO Bear stayed here

Feb 6, 2013

The Bear broke out his snow gear for a fabulous stay at this GREAT East Vail mountain home. As if the beauty of Vail’s wintery wonderland was not enough, the Bear was VERY impressed with many aspects of this home, particularly the open kitchen and living areas which made both early morning pre-ski and early evening après-ski time together so much fun. Each unique bedroom with its own bathroom, two of which have loft spaces, provided adequate sleeping and bathing privacy for the Bear and his friends. The Bear loved walking out the front door, walking less than 3 minutes to the bus and riding 10-15 minutes to Vail Village, exploring Vail mountain on his snowboard, and partaking in Vail’s nightlife including dinners at Game Creek and La Bottega and watching music legend Roy over at the Marriott lounge sing his favorite tunes. When the Bear took a day off from hitting the slopes, he read his book in the living area gazing at the beautiful white mountains, played chess with friends, sat in the hot tub to rest his Bear paws, and cooked his favorite dish of turkey tacos. The owners made the Bear feel so welcome with all of their suggestions and by ensuring that all amenities were just right for their guests. The Bear was even greeted by the neighborhood fox Cleo and they became great friends over leftover bacon! Many many thanks to Richard and Emily for a great stay!

Lovely, convenient private home in East Vail

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 10 had a wonderful stay at this lovely home in East Vail over Christmas break. The house is very conveniently located off of the highway, which we appreciated because we were skiing in Breck, not Vail. There was plenty of room for all of us (two families of 5) and we appreciated having the garage to store our skiing gear during the stay. We made use of the hot tub and the heated kitchen nice! Thanks for sharing your wonderful home!

Another fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year in a row we chose this home in East Vail for our annual guys ski trip. It slept 9 comfortably and we selected it due to: it's location to the shuttle stop, hot tub, good layout and decor, plenty of parking and overall great experience with the owners. It really was an easy experience working with them and they work hard to make sure all is in line before you leave. They were even immediately responsive when we had a question during our stay. We had a vehicle with a dead battery and even found a set of jumper cables to borrow in the garage. We had a great time on our trip to Vail.

East Vail's ONLY Destination!

  • 5 of 5

I had the absolute pleasure of spending New Year's 2017 for a family week at the Bighorn Lodge. It couldn't have been a more perfect house for an adventurous ski family who likes to entertain and enjoy a nice hot tub after a day on the slopes. The bus is just 200 feet from the house's front door which comes every 15 minutes. You can get to Vail Village in no time! It is a flat walk out the driveway and even an easy trek in ski boots - a rare treat in such a large area.

The living room was our family's favorite place to relax, watch movies, play games and celebrate the New Year. We had everything we needed in the kitchen as well as our rooms. There are 3 1/2 baths so you never feel crammed and the top 2 bedrooms are nestled away for plenty of privacy. The downstairs is a perfect room for a group of kids (or cousins!) to sleep.

This spot is the perfect house for groups of all kinds. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Great Stay for a Vail Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, Vail is BEAUTIFUL and there are TONS of things to do in the area! If you are looking for a vacation, I would definitely recommend here! We took a girls a trip out for the weekend and had a blast! There were enough beds that no one had to share. Two bedrooms were master suites that each had lofts for an additional bed. This would work out great for a family with kiddos! There was also another room that had 4 bunk beds. The house was in great condition. I also appreciate that with 8 girls, there were several bathrooms!! The kitchen was very nice and had everything that we needed for supplies. If you happen to forget something condiment wise they will most likely have some in the garage fridge. They also have some beer and hard liquor out there, they just ask that if you take some, try to leave some. You don't really need a vehicle once you get to the house. Richard, the owner, said they have bikes if you want to check out the area. If you are wanting to get somewhere, the bus stop is an incredibly close walk from the house. All bus transportation is free as well. We took an excursion to go Turtle Tubing and took the bus to Vail, where the Turtle Tubing bus picked us up. It was very convenient!

Overall I would definitely recommend this place. I hope we get to take a vacation there again soon! The owners are incredible and the house is AWESOME!!

Look No Further - This home has it ALL!

  • 5 of 5

Three families (6 adults/6 teenagers) traveled to Vail from California for Spring Break. Our stay at Bighorn Lodge was outstanding! This is truly a hidden gem in a very quiet, 7- home neighborhood, in East Vail. The owners were extremely easy to work with and were very punctual in responding to any questions we had. This home is decorated with excellent taste! Each bedroom has a full bathroom, comfortable pillow-top mattresses, down comforters, lots of storage and plenty of room. The kitchen is fully stocked with every appliance, serving plates, utensils and dishes you could imagine. The amenities this home offers are above and beyond: washer/dryer, hot tub, gas grill, extra refrigerator/freezer in garage, plenty of extra bedding, and a game table. The FREE bus shuttle to Vail has a stop right by this home. After a long day of skiing, we enjoyed soaking in the hot tub, or hanging in the living room playing games around the fireplace. This home easily sleeps 12, each in a bed! There is plenty of room to spread out in this multi-level East Vail home. We will definitely be back to the Bighorn Lodge!

Great stay in East Vail!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at this East Vail home in March! We were a group of 8 adults and the house accommodated us very nicely.

-Spacious and comfortable (even if we had 2-4 people more)

-Owners were very pleasant and accommodating; communicated all logistics efficiently and promptly answered any questions we had ahead of time and during our stay

-Close to shuttle stop on East Vail loop (a very short walk from the front door); about a 7 minute shuttle ride to the Vail Transit Center

-Large hot tub

-Cool art :)

No complaints - hope to be back in Vail next season and would definitely rent this home again!
