A friend always responds that he "is living the dream" when you ask him how he is doing. I think you could happily live the dream right here on this front porch.
The loft bedroom is up a thick spiral staircase that climbs to the cozy bedroom
If you look closely on the right, you can see a little red roof tucked into the mountainside near the river. This picture looks towards the town of Hot Springs, NC, very close as "the crow flies." 5 minute drive.
Walking in to the cabin you may first notice the fireplace, or the wood. Both at right at home here in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Our pups love the Riverstone and the abundant land to roam and play. We welcome your furry friend to come along on the adventure.

About this property

Secluded Log Cabin Near Hot Springs-Pet Friendly

Riverstone Cabin | 100-Year-Old Log Cabin on Private Acreage Near Hot Springs

There are cabins… and then there are places with a story.

Riverstone is a truly authentic, 100+ year-old hand-hewn log cabin, carefully taken down from a quiet Madison County holler and lovingly rebuilt by local craftsmen. The well preserved timbers, aren’t decorative — they’re the real thing. This is Appalachian history you can feel the moment you step inside.

Set on a large, private piece of land with the French Broad River forming one boundary, Riverstone is for guests who crave space, quiet, and a slower rhythm. It’s not riverfront — but the river is yours to walk to and explore, just a five-minute stroll across the property.

If you’re looking for a soulful and restorative retreat, you’ve found it.

The Cabin

Inside, the living space is warm and welcoming, centered around impressive original timbers and a propane fireplace perfect for cozy evenings. There’s Fiber Wi-Fi if you need to stay connected — but you may find you don’t want to.

The kitchen is small but thoughtfully stocked with the basics for simple meals, plus a dining table that seats four. The full bathroom with shower is located on the main level, along with a sleeper sofa in the living room.

Up the spiral staircase — also built from hand-hewn beams — you’ll find the open loft bedroom. Though it’s an open design, the layout offers a sense of separation from the living space below.

This cabin has been holding memories for over a century. It has a presence that’s hard to describe but easy to feel.

The Property

Step onto the covered front porch with two rocking chairs and look out over an expansive hillside lawn stretching toward the railroad tracks and the French Broad River beyond. It’s peaceful in that deep, mountain way — wind in the trees, wide sky overhead, space to breathe.

There’s a fire ring beside the cabin for evenings under the stars (bring camp chairs and pick up firewood in town).

The French Broad River is part of the property and just a short walk away. You’ll find open field, wide riverbank, beautiful rocks, sandbars (especially after high water), and quiet places to fish or simply sit and listen to the water move.

The railroad does pass through the property, and occasional trains still wind their way between Asheville and Knoxville. Long before highways, this route was part of the historic Drover’s Road — where merchants once walked their goods along the French Broad to market. The train is part of the valley’s living history.

The Area

Riverstone is less than five miles from the sweet mountain town of Hot Springs, NC — a place that feels like a hidden secret gem in every season.

Spend your days:

* Rafting or floating the French Broad with local outfitters

* Hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail

* Soaking in the mineral baths at the Hot Springs Resort & Spa

* Browsing local shops and grabbing a laid-back meal in town

* Want to explore further? Asheville is just over an hour away, and even Dollywood makes for a doable day trip.

* Then come back to Riverstone — where the pace slows again.

Good to Know

Pet Friendly (pet fee applies — please include your dog in your reservation)

The river access area may occasionally be shared with guests staying at our nearby cabin, Limestone. There is plenty of space, and interaction is entirely up to you.

Our family has a home on the property before you reach Riverstone, and Limestone is beyond it — but Riverstone remains very private and you cannot see the other homes from the cabin.

A lawn maintenance person may be on the property once a week during mowing season.

Firewood is not provided but can be purchased in Hot Springs.

Riverstone is for those who want space to wander, timbers with history, river walks at golden hour, and mornings that begin in a rocking chair with coffee and mountain air.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to host you.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We enjoyed this cabin for the weekend and it was absolutely perfect! We visited Max Patch on the Appalachian Trail and spent the rest of our time fishing the French Broad River and exploring the property. The cabin is exactly as described and pictured— it is beautifully rustic and felt like home! We fell in love with the whole place, to be honest. We cannot wait to come back and see more of the area and hopefully stay a little longer next time. Thank you for opening your amazing property to us!

Nice Cabin! Ambience was very quaint and I loved the authentic log walls, wood stairs and high ceiling. The cabin was clean, but could possibly use a really deep clean...(windows and sills, inside cabinets). It was a lovely, cozy place to stay for a long weekend and would recommend to others.

Amazing location.

My dog could just roam around, it was really quiet. The cabin is so cute it's unbelievable. There were some stink bugs waking up after winter, buzzing to their end on a lamp, but they'll soon move out, I guess. Didn't bother me and has nothing to do with clean it was.Used the railway to walk to town, short walk, lovely town.

Definitely off the beaten path

No hot tub. No view (blocked by train cars). Road to cabin was a little rough and long. Cabin was very nice otherwise.
