The Hillside Cabin is an architectural high-end masterpiece of craftsmanship. Huge windows in every room provide a tree-house sensation with amazing views of nature in every direction. The large wrap-around deck and comfortable Adirondack chairs and rockers allow for relaxing in the fresh air while taking in the gorgeous natural surroundings and views.  A private hot tub located on the deck offers wonderful lake and forest views - a perfect way to unwind after a day of outdoor adventure.

The beautiful furnishings create an ambiance of casual luxury. The first floor open plan includes radiant heated floors with Italian tile and decorative rugs. The living area has a wood burning stove and huge windows with lake views. The dining room is amazing with floor to ceiling windows on all sides. About Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck

Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development, construction and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field.

Why Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck chose Bend

Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original 5 cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land-use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October, 2011, the Creekside Cabin June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin June, 2013, and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main lodge will also be built. We feel this is a very special property and believe you will feel the same way after visiting.

What makes this cabin unique

Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc.

Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to downtown Bend. We began stocking Tumalo Lake with Rainbow Trout in 2013 and guests this past Summer were catching 16-18' beauties. This Winter, weather permitting, we will be making an ice skating rink on Tumalo Lake.

There is no other place so close to Bend affording such quality accommodations, privacy and natural beauty.

Amazing escape with such quiet seclusion. Very romantic, what every couple needs!

  • 5 of 5

Property exceeded our expectations! Very clean and homey. Beautiful lake view with trail around for hiking. Snow began to fall on our last day here which added to the very nice experience. Bill (owner) is very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is we have to leave!!

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. We took a couple hikes and enjoyed the luxury of this beautiful cabin. It was cozy and the radiant heat was a bonus! I’m a clean freak and this cabin was immaculate! Thank you for the wonderful weekend! We look forward to returning soon😊

The property and cabin are immaculate. The owners promptly answered our questions and kept to the defined schedule for check in. They are very accommodating. Everything with our stay was excellent. Our family retreat was wonderful due to the facilities. I would positively recommend this cabin. We definitely will return next year.

Highly recommend!!!!!

Could have stayed longer

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cabin and peaceful surroundings, yet with lots to do. I could have stayed another week and enjoyed being disconnected. I would bring a container to store food as there isn't much cupboard/counter space for a week of food (the refrigerator is beautiful and very spacious). Worth every penny. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat. The owners are wonderful to work with as well.

Getting back to nature with a bit of luxury at Tumalo Lake

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location on picturesque Tumalo Lake. The house is quite upscale, the kitchen has good amenities and there is lots of space in the house. Bill was very nice and showed us how to work the door which was a tad difficult to lock/unlock. We thought some 'nice-to-have' items for the house would be more night lights, fans & flashlights. The 2-bedroom unit is the only one without a washer/dryer which is good to know for packing. If you are sensitive to light in the early summer mornings, you may wish to bring an eye mask as there are only blinds on the east facing windows in the bedrooms. The outdoor area itself is charming, complete with a campfire area, hammocks & water craft which get a lot of use. The dragonflies, butterflies, damselflies, ducks, chipmunks, deer and occasional osprey are fun to watch for as well.

Privacy and Fun

  • 5 of 5

Spent 5 wonderful days at the Hillside Cabin - the accommodations were superior! Everything you need was in the cabin (grill, hot tub, full kitchen) and the lake (although small) was great to swim in with complete access to kayaks, paddle boards and canoes. With only 4 cabins sharing the lake, fire pit and such it always felt like you were alone. Only about a 15 min drive into downtown Bend.
