This beautiful mountain home is located above the town of Twin Lakes with glorious mountain and lake views on a secluded, but open and sunny lot that borders the National Forest.

This spacious and modern log home is a wonderful oasis for families, book clubs, athletes, trainers or small groups. The first floor has a large, open great room with a large table, well suited for entertaining with a fully equipped kitchen and adjacent laundry room. A master bedroom with queen bed and bath is located on the first floor (great for Grandparents). The second floor has three family-style bedrooms and a large bathroom, with two sinks, tub/shower and toilet. The Mountain View Room has a king bed with high ceilings and sweeping mountain and lake views. The Yellow Room includes a king size bed and bunk beds with high ceilings and views of Mt Elbert. The Blue Room includes a queen bed and a double bed, and a secret “kids only” playroom that is fully equipped with a kids style play kitchen and table. The third floor has a library-style ladder that heads up to a cupola with a 360-degree panoramic view of the collegiate range, great for reading, wild life viewing, office space, or a panoramic star gazing sleeping loft for kids. The cabin has a large deck and provides warm and sunny outdoor reading and sketching nooks with panoramic views. Cabin sleeps up to 8 adults, great for multiple families and grandparents.

Our guests agree, this cabin is ideal for groups with multiple interests! Enjoy easy access to family hiking and mountain-biking trails and serious hikers are close to La Plata Peak and Mt. Elbert trailhead. The cabin is located at the midway point of the famous Leadville 100 Ultra Run and you are ¼ mile from the famous Colorado Trail. The lake is a short walk through town and has nice sandy beaches, high mountain lake fishing and beautiful open views. A wonderful day hike (6 miles round trip) takes you around the lake to the Historic Dexter House and Interlaken Hotel, where you can tour a house from 1890. Fly-fishing is popular on the Arkansas River and the best river rafting in Colorado is located in Buena Vista and Salida (30 miles away). Aspen is a scenic 40-mile drive over Independence Pass (open only in the summer) where you will find art galleries, wonderful restaurants, shops, horseback riding, golf and the Summer Music & Design Festival. Historic Leadville is 28 miles away. In the winter enjoy snowshoeing, alpine and cross-country skiing. Cross country skiing trails are close by in the winter up Independence Pass or South Fork with groomed flat trails in Leadville. Snowshoeing for multiple abilities is available out the door. A fun (but safe) sledding hill is located right outside the cabin. Downhill skiing at Ski Cooper (32 miles), Copper Mountain (45 miles) or Vail (66 miles).

We have traveled all over the world and I believe Twin Lakes is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. This cabin offers outdoor winter activities (skiing, x-country skiing, snow shoeing) along with Summer activities (hiking, backpacking, horseback riding climbing, trail running, mountain biking. rafting, fly fishing) and easy access to Aspen (Summer only) and Vail valleys.

What makes this cabin unique

Spectacular hiking, long walks, open views. Our family loves to take a long hike in the morning and spend late afternoons with a picnic basket, books and sketch books reading on the sandy beach at Twin Lakes. The kids canoe, raft, swim and fish in the lake - although the lake, fed by snow melt, is pretty cold year around.

spacious home with privacy & a view

Our group of 7 ladies on a hiking trip found this home to fit our needs well. Plenty of bedrooms & beds, towels & linens. Open kitchen, dining & living area that allowed us to engage as a group (in all three areas) or break off into smaller groups and catch up. Kitchen appliances & outdoor grills allowed us to easily prepare all our meals. Wrap around porch offered seating (and views!) for us all to enjoy the ambiance comfortably. Well-maintained and clean. The house is tucked away & feels very private & secure, yet just off the highway. Easy drive to north/ne Mt. Elbert trailhead, Leadville, & Buena Vista. Hot springs near BV were a welcome treat after our hike.

Communication with owner was easy & relatively hassle-free and info provided was thorough. (A bit of confusion with cleaning service about our check out time, but it seems to have worked out.) Our only suggestion is to bring your own hot spot; no wifi.

Great cabin stay

We loved our stay at Lisa's cabin, especially the amazing fire pit and outdoor swing. The cabin is fully equipped and really comfortable, even for large groups. Lisa is a great hostess. We would definitely stay here again.

Good property, Poor management

The cabin was great. The "managers" not so great, and I will elaborate. I would like the record to reflect that I am not a large "review" person. However, after my experience here, I felt extremely compelled to express my discontent. This listing we booked for June, we had booked in in March. Three months go by without any contact from the "managers" except the initial reservation confirmation and contract attachment. 3 days before we were supposed to depart, I noticed I had not received the codes that were said to be delivered a week prior to check-in, according to the contract. I took the liberty of emailing the "managers" and they said they had never received the signed rental agreement. Although they had no problem processing my card for the stay, however, somehow our contract was "misplaced" or they even stooped to say, "you never sent it." Lucky for me, I had the same exact email saved that I had sent back in March with the signed and attached rental agreement dated for March, so I resent it. They sent out the codes, unapologetically, and three days later we reached the cabin, all is well. We enjoy our stay. We end our stay and left the cabin. We left the cabin in the same, if not better shape, than we found it. The 8 of us staying there followed the meticulous check out instructions to the "T". 3 days after check out however, this is where the story gets interesting, I recieve an accusatory email from the owner stating that the "manager" noticed, what I guess he would define as, more than an appropriate amount of bedding utilized by us 9 grown men. Furthermore, the owner states that the manager lives near by and that he saw way more than 9 people there, which is impossible. There was only 8 of us total that made the trip, one of our guests couldnt attend. Additionally we had 0 houseguests, 0. I mean, come on, Twin Lakes has a population of like 10 people. The owner continues in this correspondence basically calling me dishonest, insignuating that there were way more than the 9 stated on the contract staying there. Finally after nothing short of an unnecessary berating in this email from "managers" I was told despite their false accusations they would send my security deposit back. Rightfully so right? We followed all of their rules and didnt damage any property. Overall the accomodation was great. However, the "managers" made it a miserable experience and its unfortunate such a nice accommodation was placed under such poor management.

Exceptional base for local activities, not very secluded

Lisa the owner was extremely easy to work with, which was a pleasure.

The Twin Lakes area is beautiful, with many 14ers nearby. There are also three lakes in the area for you to try your hand at fishing. Carl at the general store will sell you worms and tell you where to fish.

You should plan to bring groceries with you, or purchase in Leadville on your way to the cabin. The Twin Lakes general store has snacks, beer, soda and fishing gear. There is an inn/restaurant across the street from the general store if you want a prepared meal.

The cabin is nice, with a walk-in shower in the main floor bedroom. This is handy for a less mobile person, as all activities at the cabin (including the deck) are on the main floor. There are just two steps up into the cabin.

The cabin is about 300 yards from highway 82, so there is road noise and you can see passing vehicles through the trees when out on the deck. The small fire station is approximately 400 yards from the cabin, and during the first day of our stay they were running a noisy pump or compressor for a big chunk of the day, which took away from the peace and tranquility of the mountains. The cabin is elevated above the highway and the town, and you get a fantastic view out of the front windows.

We did get somewhat used to the road noise after the first day.

There is a very fun rope swing on the property, which was a delight for us all.

Per Lisa's suggestion we walked/hiked the Interlaken trail, which is about a 5.5 mile roundtrip; nice views. This trail is along the south side of the eastern-most lake.

You may want to get your picture taken next to the sheriff's car in town. I think that deputy has been on duty 24-hours/day in the same location since 2004.

-Note that VRBO has recently started charging a "Service Fee" to renters. This additional charge will probably have me look for another method of renting in the future.
