Guthrie Pines, Semi-Rustic 3 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath, 1600 sq. ft.+ lakefront ranch home, wooded lake frontage on 8 ½ acres. It's a beautiful spot on the North end of Guthrie Lake. This home has been in our family since it was built in the early 1970's. Located at the original site of "the old cabin", hunting lodge for hunters in the old days, Guthrie Pines is within the Guthrie Lakes Enchanted Forests subdivision. We are NOT a part of this subdivision, and as such, we are NOT allowed to have our renters use the subdivision amenities, other than the roads. Please respect the subdivision owners and do not use the parks, boat ramps, clubhouse or other amenitis of the Guthrie Plakes Enchanted Forests subdivision.
Guthrie Pines comfortably sleeps 6-12 (or more). The home features an open floor plan with three queen beds in the three bedrooms, and a double sofa-bed on the screened in porch (as well as a couple of other couches, air beds, and foam pads for floor sleepers if you want). Puzzles and games are available for quiet relaxation. We also have a beautiful antique piano available for the music lovers in your group. (Please use with care-no pounding please!).
The sandy beach front (depending onthe water level in the lake) is ideal for swimming in the crystal clear water. A sand bar extends out for over 100 feet for shallow water swimming, perfect for small children. Fishing, (for small and large mouth bass, bluegill, perch, and others. We have a live box in the lake so you can keep your catch fresh until you are ready to clean it and cook it.), boating, and other water sports are waiting for you at Guthrie Pines. You can launch your boat at the Guthrie Lake Public Fishing Site. (Located about a mile from the house at the Southeast end of the lake). A nature trail winds through the forest on the 8 ½ acre site. Foot trails are marked for easy walking. Relax on the glider bench that sits overlooking the water's edge with a drink, or enjoy a campfire in the lakeside fire-pit. Play croquet in our challenging lakeside yard course. The set is provided. New in 2017 is a nice 40' dock out into the lake for ease in boating and canoeing. Just minutes off I-75 at the Waters exit. The property is in close proximity to a Golfer's paradise in Gaylord. Guthrie Pines is located in the golf Mecca of the Midwest. Golf Digest rated it as one of the top 5 golf destinations in America. Near to Treetops (Masterpiece, Premier, Signature & Tradition), Otsego Club (Classic & Tribute), The Natural, Marsh Ridge, The Loon, The Lakes and many more. It is only 16 miles from the world famous Tree Tops golf resort and 1 hour from Garland resort. Boyne Mountain is 75 minutes away, it boasts of indoor water park and also has a world class spa. For more family fun, Mackinac Island is only 1 ½ hour away. You can pick from 3 casinos as close as 40 miles away. Traverse City (Cherry Festival in the summer, Zoo) and Petoskey are also within a couple of hours drive. Gaylord boasts of the Alpenfest in Mid-July, an Elk viewing area, a micro-brewry, and the Call of the Wild Museum. Some of Grayling’s area attractions feature canoe races on the AuSable River, Hartwick Pines State Park, The Fred Bear Museum, and local fish hatcheries. Grayling also boasts of Camp Grayling National Guard training facility. You may hear planes and/or choppers flying training missions near the lake, as the 'Range' is about a mile away. Sometimes artillery practice is heard, and sometimes we are treated to night sky flares. We are thankful for the training our National Guard receives here to defend our country. There may be noise from some of the activity, but this training center offers no threat of danger to the lake property's residents.
North Central State Trail - Bike from Gaylord to Mackinaw City. See the North Central State Trail website for for information.
There is a notebook available at the rental with plenty of information of area attractions and things to do, as well as important information for the renter, such as the wi-fi password, and more. We also have many brochures from the Michigan welcome center to give you lots of ideas for places to go and things to do. These are in the drawer of the table stand under the TV.

Sisters- Friends-HOME! We grew up in this home, and it holds wonderful memories for both of us. We'd love to share it with you as well. Since we both live in the southeast part of the US now, we can't just let this vacation home sit without anyone enjoying it! Allow us to share some of our family heritage with you. The home we grew up in, on the lake we love, in the peaceful woods that give us the roots in our lives.
Linda purchased this House in 1972
Why Linda chose Frederic
This is our family estate home. Built by our parents in the early 1970's without borrowing, selling, or leaving a debt. A memorial rock is at the side of the yard area commemorating their respect for the beautiful woods and lake area we still call 'Home'.
What makes this House unique
We love the beautiful walks along the lakeshore, swims in the crystal clear waters of the sand bottom lake, and fishing in a rowboat or right from the shore. There is always time for a hike through the woods, watching for deer and other wildlife at the stump with the salt block in it, or enjoying the squirrels and chpmunks frolicking through the tree branches. As a family we love game time, and movie time, a walk through the woods, row boat and canoe rides, and meals together. Whether you want to read, and be quiet, go fishing, or play in the lake, there is something for you to do at Guthrie Pines. Bonfires in the evening are so relaxing, and it is always fun to make s'mores! Or just relaxing in front of the fireplace inside in the rocking chair, if that fits your style more. We have added a fire pit by the lake with log stools or outdoor chairs around it for bon-fires and making s'mores, or even roasting your hot dogs! It's a beautiful view at night, and a great place for making memories with family and friends. Lots of firewood for this bonfire area is stacked nearby, or grab wood from the surrounding woods area. (Please don't use the inside fireplace supply for this bonfire pit.) Nearby state parks offer other interesting things to do, and the local festivities in the summer add great fun to the time, 'Up North' at Guthrie Pines. Nearby rivers (AuSable and Manistee) are famous for canoeing, and there are golf courses in abundance in the area. This a beautiful seasonal place to go. The summer fun on the lake and relaxing is so pleasant. The hardwood and evergreen forests surrounding the house, make the Fall a beautiful time of year to visit. Springtime bursts with new life in the woods as the leaves bud and turn green. Sorry-winter is unique, but the house is not able to be open during the winter months.

This is exactly as described on the website. Rustic home, relatively secluded yet 10 minutes from I-75. Nice lake frontage w sandy beach & clear water. The fire pit is located right on the beach by the dock. They have a newer row boat and canoe for use as well.
Pros: As described above. Great place to relax, fish, swim. Had most of the items you would need for a stay: linens, utensils, etc. They had games, videos and puzzles for the kids. Responsive to questions before and during our stay and a great place for the price. Nice character. Read the "white" book and the history behind home and the property.
Cons: It's a rustic feeling type of home. Pay close attention to directions or it may be a little difficult to find at night. Some may want a newer or more modern feel overall. Could use a little better lighting in the kitchen. As for amenities, didn't even turn on television (not sure if that's a con).
Very happy with our stay and look forward to booking again.
Thanks for your stay, and your review.
We do have several flourescent lights in the kitchen besides the overhead light, that help with the overall light there.
As far as arriving at night, we don't have street lights, that's true. I will try to give clearer directions in my email for driving directions. Trust the motion sensor light on the garage was some help.
Family vacation was wonderful
Beautiful and serene, cozy, like staying at an old friend's house. We would definitely stay again.
So glad you felt comfortable and at home! Come and visit again!
Comfy living, beautiful lake!
We had a group of 7 people staying at the cabin. There was plenty of room and everything you possibly need if you forgot to bring it. The lake is very clear, and you could touch close to 300 yards from shore before the drop-off. We enjoyed swimming, taking the row-boat out, playing croquet, and having fires in the fire pit right on the beach. Linda was very kind and accommodating throughout the process. We were out of firewood outside and it was replenished the next day. We all had a great time and would recommend this to anybody. It was relaxing and exactly what we needed!
THANKS!!! SO glad to hear you had a great time! Come again!
Great place to get away.
Cabin was Great! Lake was awesome! We had a lot of fun. We did see some deer. We liked that it was definitely up north but there was great food close by. We felt like the boat and canoe should have been included. Couldn't find a/c as advertised. Overall we liked it a lot and are considering booking again.
Thanks for your stay. Glad you had a nice time and saw some deer. No AC has been advertised on this property. We have a screened porch and a nice breeze off the lake. Also fans in most rooms. Thanks for the input on the boat/canoe. We will consider that for next season.
our summer vacation with family at Guthrie Pines
spent a week at Guthrie Pines with children and grandchildren. this house was perfect for us as a family with plenty of rooms and a real nice kitchen to cook for 10 people! the beach was real nice for our 5 year old grand daughter and to have a fire pit right at the beach was perfect for us at night to make smores! the washer and dryer were newer models and we kept up with laundry including beach towels on a daily basis. We were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary so it was only 12 miles to Gaylord to have a nice meal with family that night. We were hesitant without air conditioning, but with the house surrounded by pines and the wind off the lake, the house was real comfortable and we did not miss the air at all.
we would recommend this house to anyone and we give it a solid 10!
Thanks for the great review. We are so glad you had a great time with your family at Guthrie Pines. Come again! :)
Lovely property with beautiful Lake views.
Spent a relaxing week with family. Sister/brother-in-law,neice, Son/daughter-in-law, daughter, and daughter-in-law who came up to see her Nat'l Guard husband at Camp Grayling for his Family Day weekend. It was so nice to have the family all take time to be together. Had nine people staying at once for a few days. No problem! The lake is so peaceful, we enjoyed our kayaks and canoe daily.
Glad to hear your had a nice time! Come again!
Huckleberry picking, mushroom picking (In season),canoeing, State Parks, Canoe Races, Casinos within 40 miles, indoor water park and spa within 75 miles, Mackinac Island and Straights of Makinaw 75 miles away. Sault Saint Marie and Canadian border within 2 hours. National Guard Artillery range a mile to the East. You may experience the noise of artillery practice, jet or helicopter fly-bys, or flares in the night which light the lake. There is not a danger to the inhabitants of the lake area. The range firing is NOT a continual racket but an occasional noise which may be bothersome to a few. Remember they are the sounds of Freedom! This activity does not bother the fish-they have lived with it for years and there is great fishing still.
