beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

We spent a long weekend at this cabin and enjoyed our stay. This is a very basic cabin. There is no dishwasher or clothes washer, and no WI-FI or cable. You are here to enjoy the natural surroundings. The cabin is clean, well organized and comfortable. Everything was in good working order. The lake is beautiful and human-powered boats are available for your use.

Our only issue was with the poor condition of the last 2 lanes to the cabin. Once you are off the highway, the roads are well tended gravel. That is until you get within about 3/4 miles from the cabin. The last 2 roads are more like dirt tracts that are deeply rutted and in great need of repair. These roads are not for a vehicle with limited clearance.

Overall, we would recommend this cabin but suggest that you bring in all supplies to last the time of your stay so that you don't have to take those roads more than necessary..

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review, we are glad you enjoyed your vacation. You will be happy to hear that the section of road that you are talking about is scheduled to be repaired. Our plans are to have it in the same good condition as the main gravel road . We pride ourselves on having a very clean, comfortable and private location. We look forward to having you stay with us again. Todd and Beth Corbley otterdaway.

Very nice hideaway

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is very nicely kept and cozy. It is about 30-45 minutes off the nearest paved road, so the drive is a bit much if you want to use it to visit different places during the day. The lake was not good for swimming, although it was good for fishing, we caught about 2 dozen fish! Although we released them all, the kids had fun. Quiet and peaceful with plenty to do for the kids.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review we are glad you enjoyed your vacation. We would like to take this time to say that there is NOT a beach for swimming, although the firm bottom and gradual enterance to the lake makes a perfect swimming area for most people. The ride to the cabin is very scenic and ends with a location second to none for privacy. Thank you again. Todd corbley. otterdaway

Awesome remote getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is a remote cabin. Driving 25 mph on the gravel with our Harley, it took us about 40 minutes to reach the cabin from any of the main highways (77 and 51). We weren't expecting that, but the quiet seclusion was rewarding. The property was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our time there and the many memories. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin.

Cozy, secluded, scenic cabin on the lake! Perfect for a peaceful get-away!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the "Otterdaway" cabin! The cabin itself was very nicely decorated and had all the amenities you could ask for! The bed was super comfy, and the kitchen had all the necessary equipment to cook anything you want! The DVD player came in handy on a rainy Sunday afternoon and for movie nights! We enjoyed fishing off the pier and taking the canoe out along the peaceful lake. The only criticism I would have is that the gravel roads leading to the cabin are very rough and it does take a long time to get there from the highway! The road leading up tho the cabin is filled with really large potholes, which we were not initially prepared for! I could definitely see this being an issue for smaller cars, but trucks or SUV's shouldn't have a problem. I would recommend that that road gets repaired though, as it seems quite dangerous! All in all, it was a really beautiful cabin and perfect for a long weekend getaway! It was nice to disconnect for a few days and just enjoy the scenery.

Quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time unplugged at Otterdaway. The cabin had everything we needed for cooking and relaxing in style, from dinnerware and cookware to comfortable furniture inside and outside, plus enough choices in watercraft to enjoy the lake. The photos and directions helped us anticipate what we were going to experience. We explored the gravel roads leading to the B-47 crash site and towns further north, and were graced by 5 eagles taking off along O'Brien Lake Road. We golfed Skye Whitecap Mountain for beautiful views and challenging fairways, and hiked 5 miles on the North Country National Scenic Trail near Mellen. There is something compelling about being unplugged and removed from TV, Internet and cell service - each day was our own to make. We appreciate Todd's call on the landline to make sure everything was as planned. We'd love to keep this place a secret, but hope others find their way north to this beautiful retreat.
