Overview

About the property

Historic Home, 6 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12-16)

John W. Maynard constructed this center-entry side gabled brick house in 1844. At the time the home was in the middle of a large, undeveloped block. Catherine Street did not extend between Division and State Streets until 1898. Maynard was a successful grocer with a store on Ann Street and his brother, William, was the city's most successful land developers during his time and the Mayor of Ann Arbor in the mid 1800s. Maynard street in Ann Arbor still bears their family's name as they were some of the early settlers of Ann Arbor. John and William Maynard were also responsible for donating land they personally owned in order for Ann Arbor to win the bid as the future location of the University of Michigan.

In the 174 year life of this home it has served as student centers, a church, and the home to many of Ann Arbor's finest residents.

Today the exterior of the home still has the most charm of any home in Ann Arbor but in 2006 it was meticulously restored and no expense was spared. The home has a viking range, sub zero fridge, wine bar, huge wrap around porch, patio, kohler fixtures, surround sound throughout the house, and much more. Probably the best feature of the home is that it is absolutely in the heart of Ann Arbor and within walking distance to anything and everything.

The set up for the beds in the home is 1 master suite with a king sized bed, 3 bedrooms with queens, 1 bedroom with a full, a full sized pull out couch, and 3 twin beds. There is also plenty of floor space for air mattresses if need be.

Although the home is already beautiful we are continually engaging in projects to further enhance the home to make it better and better. Without a doubt this is the best home to rent in the Ann Arbor area.

*Please note we will not rent to groups larger than 16 people and the primary contact for any group inquiring about renting must be over the age of 30.

Ah-MAIZE-ing spot for UMich weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family could not have enjoyed Graduation weekend more than we did. This beautiful and charmingly-updated home accommodated twelve while encouraging breakfasts around the kitchen island and conversations on the couch -- all in convenient proximity to campus, restaurants and bars. The amenities, ambience, owners and experience were simply exceptional. We are grateful for the memories facilitated by this ah-MAIZE-ing home. Looking forward to our next opportunity to visit!

Perfect Home in the Perfect Location.

  • 5 of 5

A great home to host a large group in the center of Ann Arbor. The location is about equidistant between Zingermans and Ashleys, and just over a mile to the Big House. Multiple space inside and outside the home to entertain, with a great kitchen, porch and front yard. The top floor is also a tremendous space for multiple kids to play and sleep.

Beautiful house with great location and gathering space for large groups!

  • 5 of 5

Our third time staying at this beautiful house. Our group enjoys the wraparound porch, family room with huge TV, great location for campus, town, and stadium. Highly recommmed. Only issue is the cost.

Great House

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time planning our family reunion around a UM football game. The house was large, immaculate, and perfectly located for seeing the sights in Ann Arbor. Unlike many rental places, there was nary a whiff of mold anywhere in the house, not even the large basement. The house is close to many bars and restaurants (2 blocks to Zingermann's), but not too close as to hear all the noise. The huge porch with rocking chairs was perfect for hanging out. David was great in showing us the house and talking a bit of its history when we checked in. I'll surely be back.

Great stay at a beautiful house- large and well-appointed. It was perfect for our large family reunion, and the kids had a blast with the upstairs kid's room. Owner was very nice and available.
