From Vineyard Style Magazine: 'Colin Whyte, President of Martha's Vineyard Construction, left his happy childhood home near Biscayne Bay, FL to start a wonderful and varied journey that would one day lead him to sailboat summers, Martha’s Vineyard mansions and a company built from fortitude and perseverance. “I had enough support and stability at home that I could just go. I never knew that when I left home at age 16, I’d never be back again.” Choosing to go to an all boys boarding school in Tennessee, McCallie School taught hard lessons of discipline and survival. It was there that Colin made life-long friends and began to desire the mysteries that life and experience had to offer. In hope of avoiding a sojourn in Vietnam Colin took off on his motorcycle, partnered with friends, and threw himself into education and small-time enterprises. Self-taught, he learned how to run a successful business from varied jaunts including: house moving, dictionary selling, surfboard renting, interning in the Senate, and—finally, construction clean up. Graduating from Brown University with a liberal arts degree led him to a winter at Law School, and a stint back at Brown Graduate School in art. “Applying to schools, I was really just a kid trying to stay out of Vietnam; little did I know, it was the motorcycle that would save me. A serious accident taught me the power of the motorcycle. My back was handed a lesson and Martha’s Vineyard became my home.”'
Colin purchased this House in 1992

Beautiful family time
This was the perfect home for our Vineyard family gathering. The layout made it easy for the older folks to relax while the children played outside or in their own space indoors. Each room is beautifully decorated with art which added an elegant and warm ambiance to our stay. The grounds provided a view of deer and other welcomed wildlife while we ate breakfast. Colin made sure amenities were present that made it possible for us to enjoy our family time to the fullest. A truly delightful experience for all!
Beautiful private large home
We enjoyed this amazing house during our long September weekend stay. The kids loved running around the large yard, and seeing the family of deer.
We cooked many meals in the large well stocked kitchen with all the tools needed.
Perfect for 2 families to share. I even took a nap in the hammock.
The weather was not great, but we did get to go to Lambert’s Cove Beach (no charge for parking in September) which was amazing. It was cool out but the water was warm and inviting enough for the kids to swim.
We spent one morning at the West Tisbury Farmers Market sampling and buying all the local treats. The great playground right there was an added bonus.
Colin was a great host and at the ready fir any questions we had. We would come back for sure.
Majestic property which makes you feel younare in your own world.
Great property! Truly a private, secluded affair. Colin is very accommodating and goes above and beyond to make the visit to the property and island unforgettable.
As usual, the property is exquisite, private, and perfectly maintained. It also has an owner who is attentive to any shortcomings found.
A truly special spot
We just returned home from spending the Thanksgiving holiday at Turtle Pond. This home is spectacular!! The owners were very hospitable and clearly take the time to make sure that no detail is overlooked. If you are looking for a private, beautiful, cozy, extraordinary place to rent, look no further!! We were sad to leave this slice of paradise and look forward to returning!!
