Named for the Patron Saint of animals and the environment, we welcome you to the Saint Francis House in the heart of Downtown Durango. This historic house is decorated in a fresh authentic style celebrating the natural world. Truly green, the house is powered by a 2KW Solar electric system. Amazing location with restaurants, grocery, trails, downtown all within easy walking distance. Pamper yourself in the beauty and quality of this house.

A sublime place to stay with a full gourmet kitchen and two bedrooms this house is uber-comfortable. The bedrooms have four poster beds with new high-end mattresses, fine linens and down comforters. Gorgeous new marble, glass and tile bathroom with a ceiling heater for deliciously warm showers. Lots of quality towels, and a hair dryer provided. Pet and kid friendly with a front porch surrounded by a securely fenced yard. Front loading Washer/Dryer with supplies provided including an iron. The kitchen is complete with quality pans, real knives, blender, antique dishes and real silver ware, lots of handy kitchen tools... worthy of Thanksgiving Dinner or relaxed BBQ meals for the family.

There is a large flat screen TV, BlueRay DVD player, and Wi-Fi provided. Also a small library of books and DVD's. Space enough in either room for a small office set up.

Only two blocks from the The Horse Gulch Trail System which offers world class mountain biking and hiking trails... a great place to hike dogs. Durango Natural Foods Grocery is right across the street as well as several other breakfast, lunch and coffee shops. The short walk to downtown is along 6th street which is full of eclectic shops and restaurants. Close enough to walk to the train station, or up to the college. With a location like this, the car is optional, but if you have one there is an off street parking spot just steps away from the front door.

The location is very much downtown with three breakfast places within a block, and the local food co-op grocery store right across the street. If you don't want to drive and you want a house instead of a condo, this is your place.

What makes this house unique

Unique decor, and a real house with character. This is a super comfortable house with all the trappings. We have paid much attention to the details: super nice beds and linens, hand made soap, La Creuset pans, Weber Grill, original Art. We have really had fun making this place special.

Gourmet Kitchen with Henkel knives, toaster, microwave, convection oven, blender, antique dishes, coffee pot, antique real silver wear, island table and large refrigerator. This is a kitchen you would cook Thanksgiving Dinner in. New high-end mattresses with fine linens and down comforters. Washer and dryer with supplies. Front porch seating that has a view of Perins Peak. Ceiling heater in the bathroom for super warm showers in the glass and custom tile shower.

Cute little house!

If you ride a mountain bike, the house is just a few yards away from the entrance to Horse Gulch which can't be beat! The house is nicely decorated, clean and well cared for. It got a bit noisy from the Tavern across the street on Friday night (St. Patricks Day), but the noise died down around midnight and we didn't have the same experience on Saturday.

All-in-all it's a nice property in a good location!

Great place!

The Saint Francis House is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Durango. It is very close to the organic food Co-op and Durango Joe's coffee shop. It is a short walk to Amaya Spa and all the shops on main street. Thank you for a great stay.

My family and I stayed here for 4 nights and it was just wonderful!! A cute, cozy little home that was warm and inviting. I would definitely recommend choosing Saint Francis House and will for sure be staying here in the future!!

Nice Colorado Town

Overall we were comfortable. The location was fabulous. Walking distance or short drive to all things pleasure and necessity.

Some surprises:

(1)Laundry access was challenging. Without warning I was informed right before arrival that laundry was limited to 10am to 8pm... challenging when my family's plan was to be skiing Purgatory during those hours... And traveling light is essential for a family to manage luggage.

(2) the house was DRAFTY! Every window es drafty- bedroom window was broken?! So no relaxing on sofa w/o feeling chill at my neck.

Lastly (3) kitchen supplies -pots and pans and oven were seriously disappointing. Make sure yo ask ahead got what you need or be ready to eat out. A couple of days before leaving Holly dropped off some pots, but damage was done.

We are a happy family and made due, but could have been more comfortable had the items above been managed differently.

World class mountain bike trail system 2 blocks from house! Also this Horse Gulch trail system is Dog friendly. We also have a Dog Park nearby and a kids playground within 2 blocks. Also the famous Druango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is within walking distance.
