My college roommates and I try and do a getaway every year, in a different location. This year was Maine and we stayed here. The house is well stocked with bedding, pillows, kitchen needs and is geared for a small family or group of friends. There were 4 of us, and it worked fine for our needs. It’s was quite relaxing and made for a nice reunion spot. It’s a bit of a funky fun house- there are lots of steps and stairs (and even a VERY steep ladder to get to the crows’ nest bedroom!) The cabin has lots of charm and amenities… sauna, hot tub, whirlpool tub in the second bathroom. But if you’re not sleeping in either bedroom, there’s no curtains/window treatments so you’ve got the pitch black of the forest around you at night and the sun of the day streaming through the rest of the time. It’s just a short walk to the lake but you can only see it (not touch it or get close) because everything is private property on the lake right there. To get to a beach, you have to drive. We went to the beach at the state park (about a 20-25 minute drive?) which is a good choice for a day trip. There is a fee and it’s 8/non-resident person, 6/resident. There’s a great quality market (The Good Life Market) with delicious deli sandwiches and lots of good quality food, wine, etc. Bob’sseafood was great for lunch (best lobster rolls of the trip) and the drive to Portland and Freeport was only about an hour away, for a day of shopping. We’d stay at the cabin again (but bring sleep masks!)
