Wonderful house in the perfect location

Loved staying at Otter's Den so much! The house was perfect for our needs - there was space for everyone and the kitchen had everything we could possibly have needed. A mile-ish walk or drive gets you to the Dolly Sods and it's only a 15 minute drive to Davis. The firepit was perfect - secluded and with a good amount of seating, and we all agreed that the hot tub was the cleanest we'd ever experienced!

We continue to slowly make improvements to the house since we bought it 5 months ago - I can assure you and other guests that we read all of our guests reviews and take action. Someone recently recommended a new outdoor grill, that’s next! Come back for another season, each one is sooo different and special in its own way. Best Regards.

Otters Den was great... nice kitchen, great deck to hang out in, plenty of space for 4 adults + 4 teen & pre-teen kids to all enjoy themselves! The hot tub was fantastic, we used it every day! It was great to be able to drive just up to the top of the mountain for amazing views of the valley and hit some of the trails in Dolly Sods.

Very pleased with the over all experience. Only negative we can say is there was a lot of spider webs on the walls, windows and beams.

July 2023 Family Trip

Our family rented this house for a week. We loved the deck area with the hot tub, and fire pit. That was a great addition. We would love to see some decorative lights on the deck, that would make it sooo much more attractive. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for our trip. The goose feather pillows were a little horrible to sleep on. Overall our family loved this house it was so cozy and had all the right amenities and was the perfect distance from the guard stand. We would book it again!!!

It is a nice place and they have done a lot of work repairing the decks. It is spacious and comfortable and we love seeing the deer and wildlife. Best of Canaan is always professional and easy to get hold of if there is a problem. We don't travel to this area with any other management company.

Enough room to spread out and chat, play games and enjoy each others company. As we were older skiing was not in the plans - weather cooperated and we were able to enjoy fires at night to take off the chill. Kitchen was fully equipped, and this made meal prep easy. This rental had the most interesting posters and pictures - so tastefully and uniquely done.

We visit Canaan Valley several times per year, so we visited some of our favorite spots.We experienced a minor water leak in the first floor bathroom. Best of Canaan dealt with it promptly as always.We would consider staying at Otter’s Den again in the future.

Landis Realty was very good to work with; when we went to grill, the propane was out. Called and someone delivered right away. Word of caution to motorcyclists- (we were traveling on bikes)- the house is down mile long gravel road and has a steep driveway. Not optimal, but doable for experienced riders. Great riding around the area.

Missed the description of not being handicap accessible. Very hard getting in and out with luggage. Best of Canaan was very accommodating when my TV and internet went out and a very nice young man helped me get that fixed and helped me when I left getting luggage to vehicle. Thank you again

First Timers

Don't usually like staying within a gated community setting, as they tend to be too crowded and more hotel atmosphere -like. But barely saw any neighbors and entering and exiting community very easy. Loved the hot tub. It was great occupying the grand kids. No AC. Didn't matter. Day time temps in mid 70's and no humidity. Night-time temps had to have to covers on the bed. Great access to many outdoor activities and easy drive to Davis, Thomas, Parsons and the other 'Valley' towns. Definitely will look to book again, if we come back to the Canaan Valley.

Fabulous rental

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was fantastic. Tucked into the mountain side with decks, firepit, hot tub and more. The home was very clean and well appointed. Large windows in the great room to take in the breathtaking views. One evening a large deer was looking at us maybe he was watching tv. The kitchen was very well stocked and roomy. The huge living room had double large sofa's and a big stone fireplace. There also was a 4 person table and chairs behind the sofa's for games, puzzles and more. Comfy beds and a big front porch with rockers. You couldn't ask for anything more at this rental.

I’ll list the good things about the house first:Comfortable bedsCleanNice hot tub and fire pitNice layout All the windows opened fineLovely front porch Secluded Was stocked with toilet paper and soapNice washer and dryerSome improvement suggestions:Needs new carpet downstairs (would be better if wood floor)Was damp and smelled a bit musty until we aired it outKitchen is serviceable, but old and could use more storage containersNo hairdryers provided The lighting is very dim, could use brighter light bulbs to brighten up the roomsIt would be better to have king beds, even if they take up more of the roomWe all had a great time and I would recommend the house, but would note the drawbacks so people could make their own decisions.

Rustic Otters Den

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The surrounding area is beautiful and many rentals are rustic and fit into the scenery. Almost as if you are a part of nature. This area has not changed in 25 years which is a good thing. Be prepared to relax and turn off the modern and fast pace of todays society. Some must see areas, Blackwater Falls (Lindy Point Trl), shopping in Thomas (Tip Top Coffee Shop is awesome), Seneca Rock-go ahead and hike up it is not to strenuous, Dolly Sods has many wonderful trails but is rocky in many areas and can be muddy after some rain. This rental is darker on the inside than the photos appear. The back deck with hot tub is a plus. And overall the place was clean (coffee pot could use more attention on cleaning).

A very nice cabin in the woods

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stay often in Canaan Valley. One of the guys who's 50th we were celebrating had stayed here previously and chose this place. Sadly, when we arrived the hot tub was out of order. Then the power was out for a few hours. Next, we had a bit of a black ant issue in the kitchen. Lastly, when we went to use the gas grill, I'd just say it'd seen better days. I will mention that the guy who here previously had NOT experienced such issues. And I’m aware the hot tub was being replaced.Now for the good news, the Best of Canaan were very helpful and nice to deal with. The place was very clean and well-appointed with a very new kitchen. The furniture (beds / couches / etc) was nice. I think there were just some unfortunate issues but I feel confident they will all be resolved and I would stay there again and feel comfortable recommending this place as it is a very nice place in a wonderful setting.

The hot tub is great, and we really appreciate the provided firewood as there's nothing more relaxing than a fire on a chilly day, of which we had several during our stay. The beds are comfortable, and the kitchen has been completely updated since our last stay, which was a nice surprise. Although there are other houses nearby, this place is tucked in and feels very private, another thing that rates high on our list. Overall, I definitely recommend Otters Den!
