Come relax, unwind or explore the Potomac Highlands from Idlewild, our wonderful escape in Lost River. The home is filled with amenities and surrounded by panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains and the Lost River Valley. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a place to spend time with a small group of friends or family, Idlewild will provide the perfect backdrop for your West Virginia escape. PLEASE NOTE: Pricing varies by group size per the below. WE ALSO ASK GUESTS TO RESPOND TO OUR NOTE ONCE YOU HAVE REQUESTED A BOOKING. THANK YOU!

Pricing: There is a $50/person/night for groups larger than 4 people. The rate also includes WV Sales Tax, our $125 cleaning fee and the increasing fees VRBO charges for the use of its service.

Each bedroom has its own character with en suite full baths and sliding glass doors to outside decks that overlook stunning vistas and wildlife. Wooden decks wrap around the upper and lower floors, with an enclosed screened-in porch on each level. Adirondack, lounge and rocking chairs surround the house - providing ample room to read, bird watch or relax. While the house is spacious, the upstairs is cozy and perfect for couples looking for a mountain getaway. A modern, fully-equipped, luxury kitchen and gas grill provide the tools for wonderful meals. We have a hot tub located in a covered deck with incredible views! Everything you could want for a memorable retreat!

There is a wood burning fireplace in the great room, firewood provided. In cooler months enjoy the hot tub on the lower, enclosed deck. A firepit/deck in back of property can be enjoyed year round and is a great way to take in the extraordinary stars and invigorating mountain air. We have high speed internet. A music player for CDs and iPods. The house is near some great hikes in the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, and can serve as a hub for either exploring wild and wonderful West Virginia or serving as a retreat for relaxing, meditation and taking in the Lost River Valley's natural beauty.

The host was amazing, answered messages promptly, allowed us to come early and leave late, provided us with a nice bottle of wine. The house was beautiful! I loved the long, vast wrap around porch. The view was amazing. We enjoyed the indoor fireplace, thanks for providing the wood, but the wood should be on the upper deck where the fireplace is, would make it more convenient. The hot tub was nice too. I will say fly traps should be provided on the screened in porch because the flies/bugs just get trapped, die and then dead bugs are all over the floor. The set up was nice, loved the big island in the kitchen, not too many stairs inside which is nice. I will say we weren't aware the silverware was in the drawer in the island, we thought there was literally only 4 forks and no knives. The bed downstairs behind the tv room was very unstable, moved a lot. A couple had to move out of that room and sleep in the blue room instead. I had the Asian inspired room, the bed was nice and comfy but man is the ceiling thin! I could hear everyone walking above me, sounded so loud in my room, like boom bang boom!! I had to make sure to go to bed when others did and wake up with them as well. My shower had dead flies in it so not sure if it was cleaned. The drain didn't drain well in that shower either. The house was very nice and thank you for allowing us to stay there.

What a gorgeous property! The home was well equipped for our group’s stay, and very clean and comfortable. Our group of 8 friends had a fabulous time, enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, grilling on the deck, hanging by the firepit, playing games in the great room, and relaxing in the hot tub. Beautiful views from all of the decks, too! We didn’t use the media room, but it looked like a nice and cozy space to watch a movie on a rainy day. We spotted some interesting wildlife too (a skink and lots of birds).

It was a very spacious home. We went with the intention of relaxing & that is exactly what we did. we loved the fact that we each had our own space, our own bedroom & bathroom.. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances. The table was a great place to play games! ...........the fire ring was very nice, the wrap around porches were great! It was a very quiet place with an awesome view & a great place to watch the air traffic, if that is an interest to you!

Beautiful property and great host!

We really loved the house, it was very peaceful and relaxing. We were able to explore the state park, go horseback riding, see some great views and then get back to a peaceful home. The host was very welcoming and provided great information to help us plan our stay.

Anniversary Weekend

We were looking for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. This property provided everything we were looking for in a relaxing weekend. The house has everything you need with an amazing view. We mentioned this was going to be an anniversary getaway and a bottle of wine was left for us. Such a thoughtful gesture. We loved this house so much we are planning another trip to stay here. The owners provide you with a lot of information about the surround area and amenities. Everything about this rental was seamless. and a bottle of wine was waiting for us

Fun girls trip with Breathtaking views

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful house. It has breathtaking views that overlook the valley and mountains; the sunsets each day were amazing! The house was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals each day. Firewood was provided for the inside fireplace as well as the fire-pit, The fire-pit was located on a platform with ample seating, This house is so lovely. The host Jennifer was very responsive and provided a ton of helpful information in the welcome binder, I look forward to bringing my family here for a relaxing weekend as well as another girls trip.

Awesome Week with Family

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin in the WV mountains. We enjoyed many family excursions (walks, swimming, picnics, shopping, watching wildlife and much more) in the Lost City area. It was a truly amazing week. Our hosts were amazing as well as their property manager.

Mountain Bliss

This is a fantastic house overlooking a valley with addional mountains in the distance. Although there are other properties close by, it feels relatively secluded, especially with the wrap around porches on both levels. Hard to decide which level was the more relaxing. The first level has a hammock and the hot tub which is well situated to watch a beautiful sunset. The second floor is where the big open floor plan allows for plenty of space and the deck has a lounge where relaxing with friends as night falls was awesome. Sunsets are great up there as well....but no hot tub!!!! Loved the kitchen with the huge island and, after a brief rain spell one evening, opening the doors and windows allowed a best breeze the cross through. We didnt even need the a/c. Watching the clouds roll in and then the mist rise felt mystical. Definitely a space for retreat and refocus. Hopefully we come back and actually get out of the house, but it was so comfortanle!

Breathtaking View

The view will take your breath away whether looking on from inside the house or from one of the observation decks surrounding the home, with many places to sit inside and out, to take it all in. Ample bedrooms, bathrooms, stocked with towels, linens and some toiletries. Kitchen has all the essentials needed to cook or grill. Watching TV proved tricky for us connecting, so we opted to enjoy watching and staying warm by the fireplace as a snow storm came through bringing high winds. All in all, a very nice, peaceful getaway.

Lovely cabin with an amazing view!

Our state was for a long weekend with our son and his wife and our daughter and her husband. We had a great stay. The cabin was beautiful and very well equipped. One small detail, one of the beds was very squeaky, and my daughter and her husband had to switch to another room. We had an extra room, so it was no problem. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.

Church Girl’s Trip

We loved the property! It was absolutely gorgeous, the hot tub was amazing along with the porches! Our only concerns were that the property wasn’t very clean. Completely understand it being in the mountains and having dust, but the countertops were very sticky, almost as if they hadn’t been wiped, there were cobwebs in the corners of the showers, as if they hadn’t been used in a while, and the banister for the stairs in the kitchen had a layer of dust resting on it. There is a light bulb out right near the sink in the kitchen and the bedroom downstairs closest to the grill had some bent bed legs and there was some trash and a sock left under the bed. There was also a section of screen missing in the hot tub space. We overall loved the place and would love to visit again sometime, whether with our family or a girls trip again! Thank you so much!!
