Keywords: Waterfront...4acres..private....One of the most beautiful and special properties on Eleuthera, Longbight offers a breathtaking setting of manicured grounds filled with coconut palms and blooming bougainvillea on a secluded cove on the leeward (Exuma Sound) side of the island.
Just a five-minute walk from the quiet and friendly settlement of Gregory Town (where guests can easily shop for essentials or hop over to Pam’s Island Made Gift Shop), the four-acre estate includes two homes, a 2,500-square-foot main house and a 700-square-foot cottage, both with A/C and Internet WiFi access. The main home includes two bedrooms that will sleep four (one king and one queen bed); one full bath; an enormous living room with a 30-foot ceiling, floor-to-ceiling book shelves and a conversation-piece giant bamboo couch; a renovated kitchen; den with satellite TV and VCR; and a wide veranda that looks out over the crystal clear, turquoise water of the cove. It’s the perfect perch for morning coffee, endless reading and sunset cocktails (try the local Sands beer) with friends.
The cozy cottage (See VRBO# 457411) comes with a screened porch, living/kitchen area, full bath and bedroom that can sleep up to five—a wonderful space for honeymooners, couples or friends on a budget, or for the overflow of children and grandchildren.
With 300 feet of waterfront, water lovers can pad barefoot down to the beach area to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, kayak, and fish—and may never see another person all day.
Only two miles away is Surfer’s Beach, considered the best surfing in the Bahamas. But Eleuthera offers dozens of secluded beaches on both the windward and leeward sides of the island that offer views that stretch for miles without seeing any development. Spelunkers can explore nearby caves, and landlubbing sightseers can drive Queen’s Highway north and south to explore Eleuthera’s other charming settlements, such as Governor’s Harbour. A 20-minute drive north will take you to the dock for a five-minute boat ride to Harbour Island’s 18th-century architecture, shops and restaurants for celebrity sightings.
The owners have loved this island, its people and its simple, paired-down lifestyle for decades, and they hope you will, too.
Longbight’s main house is $2,500 a week and the cottage is $800 a week. Rental is one-week minimum.

Paradise just got better......
For those of you that have stayed here before and thought it couldn't get any better, well hold on to your sunscreen! The owner spent a lot of time and effort to make Longbight even better. All the window have been replaced to give the house a fresh updated look, along with a really cool hammock to use if someone beats you to the other one out on the expansive back porch. But that's not the best part. There is also a new spacious bathroom added on to the master bedroom that makes everything picture perfect for all.
Our week was pleasant and relaxing as always but the new added amenities made it even better. As usual, Wendy was there to greet us and see us off with smiles, the kayaks were there for the using, the reefs were full of tropical fish for snorkeling, (not sure how the owner pulled that last one off), and once again we were more than happy to trade our Miami street lights in for Gregorytown star lights. The Longbight property is worth its weight in gold and we would recommend this VRBO to anyone who wants a vacation that will take all your cares away and replace them with peace and harmony.

Relax! Relax! Relax!
Absolutely wonderful place to escape from a busy life. We had an amazing 7 day stay. We where looking for a place to go just to get away from work for a while and we are so happy that we booked our vacation here. Everything was simple from the beginning. Mike was so easy to deal with when booking and he connected us to Wallace, who picked us up from the airport and delivered us to this paradise. Wendy the house manager saw to all our needs! She is awesome. If your looking for a quite, peaceful vacation then this is the place for you. It is secluded and right on the water. Take the kayak out for a spin. If you have snorkel gear bring it as the water is so clear in the cove behind the house, but I recommend that you venture just out of the cove where there are bigger fish to see. Relax in the hammock on the back porch and read a great book or two. Gregory town has all that you need for your stay - two small grocery stores: 7 to 11 and JC's, a great gift shop, two liquor stores - recommend Mr Bones as Ms Ann is so nice, a produce market - Roots - if the have it grab it as produce is limited, Elvina's up on the hill for Friday night live music and Unca Gene's restaurant for some great conch salad (ceviche). Best of all - it is all in walking distance from the house and the local are such wonderful people. Don't forget to book a fishing trip with Capt. Z out of Gregory Town. If you need a car to get around the island - well just ask Wallace and he will hook you up. We really just cannot say enough. This is just the perfect place to unwind. We shall return.
When you have a place with all that this VRBO property has to offer this can very easily turn your VAcation in to a STAYcation. We usually rent a car and travel around Eleuthera when we visit our relatives in Gregory Town, but staying at Longbight made this trip a different experience. You can believe everything written in the reviews; from the kindness of Wendy, who was there to show us around on our arrival and wish us a farewell on our departure, to the detailed description of the house and surrounding property. The house is indeed very spacious, with lots of room to spread out and relax, comfortable sleeping accommodations, plenty of ceiling fans, and air conditioning in all the rooms if needed. The kitchen is better equipped than our home in Miami, including everything from a crockpot to a salad spinner. We thought it would really be nice to have a TV and Internet service, but because of the beauty that surrounds this lovely property, we rarely took advantage of these amenities. After a day of swimming, kayaking or snorkeling in our own private cove, we would finish every day relaxing in the comfortable adirondack chairs on the expansive back porch and await the beautiful sunset. After dinner, it was back outside to enjoy a sky lit up by stars, rather than the lights from a big city. We've been coming over to Eleuthera for 25 odd years now, and we have to say that because of where we stayed, this was truly one of our best visits to Eleuthera ever. I do feel like I should add that if you've never been to Eleuthera, it would be worth your while to rent a car and explore all the places mentioned in the other reviews. It's a great island with friendly people, and there is plenty to see and do.

Trying to find the negative.....
If I give this place a good review then everyone will want to go and it might not be as available to me when I want to go again(as soon as possible), so I will tell you that this place is not for everyone......
If you want a beautiful, quiet, almost private cove with perfect water for swimming and snorkeling, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want to be greeted by a wonderful, caring, informative woman named Wendy, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want a kitchen that is completely equipped, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want a fabulous living room with 30ft. high ceilings and fans(and air conditioning) and games galore, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want to lie in a hammock or sit on a porch that is HUGE and just look out at the water, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want to be within walking distance of a small quiet little town where you can buy everything you need, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want a place where you don't really even need a car because everything you could want is close at hand, then this place is NOT for you.
If you want to vacation in a place that just seems like a dream, then this place is definitely NOT for you!
Remember, Eleuthera is NOT for everyone!
Fabulous Stay in Eleuthera
We had the pleasure of staying at this house in February and it was delightful. For starters, the caretaker, Wendy, is absolutely the most kind, helpful person--this was particularly important as we had a few issues on our journey to the house (no fault of the house or island, some flight issues that screwed up rental car, luggage, etc). Wendy went above and beyond to assist us in so many different ways, honestly was more helpful than concierge we have had at five star hotels--and genuinely made us feel that she cared about us and our stay. She turned a terrible situation into a positive. On to the house itself--The house is wonderful. It is not fancy, but it is the perfect beach house sitting right on the perfect cove. It has a good kitchen with all the appliances, tools, modern conveniences you could want. The bedrooms have great beds, super comfortable, mattresses and nice sheets, pillows and comforters. It was quite cool when we were there, but there are air conditioners and fans. The house has a very beachy/ocean decor and feel, which is really fun.
But, on the the main event--the back porch and the yard. Oh that porch!!! Seriously, we spent so many delightful hours having coffee in the morning, and then enjoying happy hours watching the most amazing sunsets. The porch is even better than it looks in the photos--just a huge space with fabulous chairs and the most amazing views. The house has really lovely landscaping, beautiful palms, comes with kayaks, and then leads down to the most glorious little cove.
They do have some sand by the little beach gazebo, which offers lovely shade right by the water, but this is not a sandy beach. It is a rocky shoreline, which we actually really loved because on a few nights that were rougher water, the waves banged against the rocks and were quite stunning. There is a little walkway that leads to an area where it is easy to get into the water. The water was chilly when we were there (I would actually recommend December or March as possibly better if you like warmer water), but I still went in every day and the snorkeling right there was fantastic. We have snorkeled many different places, and this was wonderful. Around the outer edges of the cove is great reef and fish. Also, nicely located close to good restaurants like Rainbow Inn and Front Porch and by Gregory Town. Our stay was delightful, would love to go back, this is just the perfect little beach house!
