Perfect ocean side house

Our family spent a week at the Cove house during spring break. The unit is very spacious and clean. The kitchen has everything you need to function properly. The view is beautiful from the upstairs deck. The caretakers were responsive and very helpful. We will stay there again on next visit.

Short stay at this absolute Gem!

Stayed here for a few days with my family of 5 in July. The property was perfect for us and so well located on the island with everything we wanted to do very close by. Felt like a real home with personal touches in a long history of past photos everywhere. Every convivence taken care of with well stocked kitchen, great A/C and comfortable beds. Property does not have a true beach to lay out on or play but the ocean and bay directly in front is great for swimming, snorkeling, and kayak/paddle boarding (plenty of them to choose from for free). We enjoyed traveling to the many nearby beaches and actually enjoyed staying right on the water where there is more of a wide pier in front. the views each day were amazing! Several small restaurants, groceries (small but normal for Eleuthera), liquor stores, and gas stations just a minute walk away. Very friendly people everywhere. Host was excellent with quick responses and tips or suggestions. Great place to stay and relax or explore rest of island from

Warm breezes and great views.

This property overlooks a hub of local activity which makes it perfect. The emerald water of the cove greets you upon waking every day. The house has a full kitchen with all you'll need to make meals and snacks. If you don't feel like cooking, hop over to Unca Gene's for drinks and dinner and enjoy the quiet cove when walking back"home." We look forward to returning!

Right in town on the cove

This is my 4th stay at least. Owners are very responsive. I asked for a non stick fan and it was there when I got there. The property is right in the heart of things downtown. You can walk a minute or two to get the the stores and restauants/bar.. The bay is.beautiful, especially iespecially with the sunsets.

Great home in the center of my favorite town

If you are looking for a great place in Gregory Town Eleuthera this is your place. The house is right in the center of town the most amazing views. You can sit on the front porch all day and talk with all the locals. This home had everything you could need for your stay. I will definitely be back!

Hidden Gem

The Captain's Quarters apartment is in a good location and within walking distance to local churches, restaurants and stores. The accommodations are comfortable and the view is very pretty. The property manager is attentive and "just a message away." WiFi is good, kitchen is well equipped, and the hot water feels great in the shower after a day in the water. Recommended!

This is my 3rd time in Eleuthera and the first time I found a great deal. I had settled on just pay a lot for everything because it’s an island but I was amazed at his deal. Not only is the house clean and conveniently located it come with boards so wow that is a deal. The pictures are exactly what your getting and I appreciate that. He also keeps his rules simple and makes you relax.

Beautiful turquiose bay

Once again I stayed at The Cove House which I adore! The property is situation on the cove in Gregorytown. It is within walking distance of everything in town. It is so safe you can hitchhike to and from the beach. The Cove House has a new air conditioning system that is amazing! The temperature in every room is at your control. My favourite parts are sitting on the huge covered porch watching and listening to the lulling sound of the waves in the cove, and waving at all the locals who are so friendly. There is a full kitchen, living room and TV.

Loved it. Right in town - able to shop and go to restaurants. Everything I needed was in rental; could cook own meals. Owners so friendly and helpful. People in town friendly. Right on beautiful bay.

Gregory Town

The owner, Harry, and his wife, Donna, were very friendly, helpful, and informative. The house was very clean and roomy, the kitchen had everything needed for cooking, and had a great water dispenser. Great location for getting a true feel of Gregory Town. It was fun seeing the locals go out in their boats in the morning, and come back in loaded with fish. We even got to try fresh stone crab claws courtesy of the owner, Harry. Great location for sightseeing all the sites in northern Eleuthera. Only wish the apartment had central air conditioning.

In town on bay

Loved staying at the Cove house.! Harry and Rhonda warm and welcoming. Loved sitting on the porch watching the lovely people of Gregorytown coming and going listening to the sea and watching the sunsets overlooking the water. Swam in the bay in the mornings-bring beach shoes as there are conch shells. Loved eating at the local places.. Cove House is right in town and a minutes or two walk to everything. All people so friendly. Is very safe. Got to see the tree lighting celebration!

We LOVED staying at Cove House

My family of four (my husband, two teen aged children, and me) stayed for a week in early April and had an absolutely wonderful vacation. I love the location of this rental because it's directly on a safe cove that is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. The bay-side location provides a lot of entertainment as you sit and watch from the balcony - fisherman, people from town coming for a swim, occasionally giant fish swimming by, etc. The rental house also sits near some great places to eat (we loved Unca Gene's!), get groceries, bakery goods, beer/liquor, and nearly everything else you need. The kitchen was very usable and provided everything you need to make food during your stay. Local cookbooks available in the kitchen helped me figure out how to fix the fresh grouper we bought from fisherman on the dock across from the house. The hosts were AWESOME. They were available to give advice and answer questions but left us alone to explore and relax. A stay at this amazing place is not for everyone. If you are super picky about how updated a rental is, this is not for you. If you have trouble with the unexpected or can't roll with flow, this is not for you. However, if you can successfully turn on "island time" and love the amazing experience of staying in a local town with real people (NOT a resort!), always looking out on a beautiful turquoise cove, then this is perfect.

A perfect place to call "home" for 10 days!

My husband and I stayed at the Cove House for 10 amazing days in late March 2015. Donna and her daughter Amanda were wonderful hosts. We stayed in the lovely Captain's Quarters apartment. It was clean, had plenty of space for the two of us, was adequately stocked with all we needed for cooking, etc. and had the absolute BEST views of the water. We awoke each morning to the sounds of waves lapping and distant wandering roosters. We had breakfast and dinner on the front balcony overlooking the cove each day. It was an absolutely perfect place to stay and exceeded our expectations. Thank you Donna, Amanda, & Harry!

Eleuthra is a little slice of heaven!

I stayed in the Captain's Quarter's apartment at the Cove House in Gregory Town, Eleuthra for a little over two weeks. The apartment was set up perfectly for me. I had my own beautiful patio to drink coffee in the mornings, and start my day. I had a complete kitchen for cooking my meals, was able to sleep with the windows open and fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean. You cannot ask for a better experience that what I had here. This house is in the center of Gregory Town and you will be a part of all the activities going on down there. Across the street is the old school which is now being used as a temporary library where I would go and talk to children while they were doing their homework, you could walk to the island gift shop, grocery store(s), liquor store, fresh bakeries, all within 10 minutes. No better place to set up your life for the time you are there. The Bahamians that live there are so very warm and welcoming. I got fresh fish right off the dock from the local fisherman in front of the house for dinner. They will help you find whatever you are looking for and you can become a part of their close family while you are there. This is not the place for someone looking to be waited on hand and foot. If you want luxury or tourist type activities you can take a short trip to Harbor Island and experience this type of vacation. I recommend this location and the Cove House for anyone looking to relax, unwind, recharge and leave rejuvenated. The only problem I had staying at the Cove House in Gregory Town was I did not want to leave.

I Left My Heart in Eleuthera, Gregory Town

This was my first visit to Eleuthera, or the Bahamas for that matter and we couldn't have picked a better location. Acurately described as the place to unplug recharge, that is exactly what we did. The community of Gregory Town was so welcoming and and the entire atmosphere was one of Peace. We sang at Elvina's, we dined at the Rainbow Inn, but my best memories were spent with the family (6 altogether) preparing meals and laughing around the dinner table. We ate fresh fish and lobster pulled from the water that day, and dessert was Ms. Frances' pies. Food for the body, but more importantly food for the soul. I have to go back, I left my heart there!

We Took a Chance...and are changed forever!

My brother-in-law via a charity event in the U.S. won a week at the Cove House. He promptly called his other brother & his wife and my wife & I and off we went Dec. 2-9, 2012. Between the six of us we had been on many vacations, cruises, and glamorous gatherings...this would not be such an occasion. Before you start thinking, "Oh my God, what kind of place is the Cove House", read on...The Cove House is the hub of daily life in the tiny Gregory Town community. The views from the House to the Caribbean are beautiful as are the beaches. The property is well maintained and fits the environment just right! Do not expect luxury anywhere in the immediate area although there are some "high end" locations to visit while there...just a boat ride across the water to Harbor Island as example. Locally, you can enjoy all the water sports and beach life you care to take in. There are local restaurants for dining but the best conch and grouper burgers were at the little gift shop/restaurant across from the airport...great local beer prices next door too! I'm saving the best for last...the local residents and small children were so incredibly friendly and helpful. All you need to do is step out and greet them, they will handle the rest. My wife and I have never had the kind of "vacation" experience that we enjoyed in Gregory Town. To say it was an emotional, if not spiritual, experience would be an understatement...what a joy to have been there! In closing, if you're looking for people to wait on you "hand and foot" and you're used to luxurious vacations, this is likely not for you. However, if you want to live locally and experience the friendliness of the community, eat fresh seafood everyday and see some of the prettiest sunsets ever...this is your place!! Charming, but beware in the summer - No air conditioning

This is, in fact, a charming little cottage with a nice view of the cove in Gregorytown. Very practical and affordable for a trip to the Bahamas. However, we arrived for a wedding at the end of June/beginning of July to find that the property is not air conditioned. Air conditioning was not advertised, however if you have never been to the Bahamas before, and live in a location where generally everywhere has air conditioning, you would not know to ask. There are many places in this part of the Bahamas that do not have air conditioning as it isn't really needed outside of the summer months. However, it was near 100 degrees the week we were there, and we were not able to sleep at the cottage because it was so hot. We ended up staying at a house where our friends were even though there really wasn't room because we would have been miserable at the Cove House, and still had to pay the full amount, even though we did not stay there, which was very disappointing from a customer service standpoint. I don't purposely bad mouth businesses, and the owner was very helpful and cordial up till this point, but since I did not stay there, yet still had to pay the entire amount I cannot say I would rent from this owner again. As I said it was a charming little cottage with pretty much everything one would need, and I'm sure it would be absolutely fine during the cooler months, but buyer beware if you go when it is hot.

A perfect island holiday

We had a wonderful stay in Gregory Town at the Cove House, in the Compass Cottage - a cool and comfortable apartment for the three of us, but there was still plenty of room in the loft for a few more people. It's just a short trip from Florida, but seemingly worlds away. The spectacular sights and peaceful sounds of Eleuthera made our 9-day stay very special. So quiet that you could read or sleep the day away, so safe you can leave your windows open to enjoy the sea breezes. You can hear the daily sounds of fishermen cracking the conch shells on the dock, kids laughing and playing outside, and Sunday morning hymns in the nearby by church- and will be almost surprised to hear the occasional car drive by. The Cove House is steps away from one of many peaceful coves in Eleuthera, as well as miles of accessible beaches for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, fishing, surfing, etc. You can get a well-detailed map of Eleuthera from the local Island Made gift shop, where you can also buy some great souvenirs - jewelry made from beach glass, island fabrics, t-shirts, local art, etc. Gregory Town is a friendly little hamlet, where everyone always waves and says hello. Our hosts, Harry and Donna, are a key part of this happy island family, and they were always glad to give us advice for our next daily adventure. The food in Eleuthera was fantastic, and always fresh, with several great restaurants just minutes away from the Cove House - Front Porch, Twin Brothers, Daddy Jo's, Rainbow Inn, Laughing Lizard, to name a few. Or you can cook your own meals in your Compass Cottage kitchen. Cracked conch is a delicious island specialty. The stone crabs are great too. Our teenage son was most interested in surfing, and when the wind is right, Eleuthera has some of the best surf spots in the Caribbean. Harry has some boards you can use, and he knows the waves in Eleuthera as well as anyone. Or stop by and talk to Pete at the local surf shop. They say that "Eleuthera isn't for Everyone", but our stay at Cove House was perfect for us.

Cove House has been my family's beloved second home ever since my Father purchased this home in 1973. Originally a tomato cannery, then one of the Islands only dry goods store, then destroyed by Hurricane Betsy in the 1960's. My Father and Mother found this gem on their second vacation to Eleuthera. They always joked about finding a fixer upper. But when they took one look at this classic example of turn of the century Bahamian architecture laying in ruin beside this picturesque cove, it's quiet waters shimmering, they knew this was the place they had always been looking for. Thus began my family's Island Home renovation project that has lasted more than three decades.

Recently (in 2015) we began our third remodel of our home since our original purchase. This was our largest undertaking ever. We replaced all plumbing and all three bathrooms. Installed a completely new electrical service to the entire home. Added a designer kitchen and a wet bar. Installed a new ocean front deck and pergola. We reestablished a secondary fresh water source with our cistern and easy to use switch-over filtered pump. And shipped in many new furnishings and new beds I'm happy to announce this huge project was completed in Dec. 2019 and is now ready for YOUR Family's use!
