About this property

Bungalow Cottage On Lake Talquin

This unique 1933 cottage overlooks beautiful Lake Talquin on a 1-acre landscaped lot with mature trees. Original heart pine floors (newly refinished), 10-foot ceilings, screen doors, and outdoor spaces feel just like your grandparents' home. The house is fully renovated with historic character intact. Perfect for weekend and longer getaways. Enjoy fishing, canoeing, and nature.

This house has been in our family since it was built in Quincy and relocated to the lake in the 1960s. French doors separate the living and dining rooms. The dining area seats 6 and the kitchen pub table seats 2. There are 2 bedrooms -- one queen bed and a double. A queen pull-out couch is available in the living room, and a couch unfolds to a single bed for a child. Maximum persons are 4 adults and 2 children. Pets not allowed. Maximum stay 30 days. The property is non-smoking.

This house uses the original skeleton key in one of the exterior doors. It is recommended to place the key in the inside doorlock at night for easy exit. The house is on a high hill and the walk from the lake has an incline. The inside fireplace is not functional for use.

The outdoor areas include 2 porches and a carport converted to an outdoor room, providing plenty of choices for outdoor relaxation. There is a hammock and wrought iron chairs that offer plenty of outdoor seating. Fish from the dock. There is not a launch area on the property -- launch your boat from nearby Ingram's Marina. There is room to park your trailer and vehicle.

View ospreys, eagles, herons, woodpeckers without leaving the porch. If you are lucky you could see the rare "white squirrel" common in this area.

The neighborhood is quiet and relaxing on a dead-end road bordered by the lake and a wildlife management area. A small grocery and Ingram's Marina are a short drive away. There are miles of nearby hiking, horseback, and biking trails.

Safety: Swimmers beware! The lake is a wildlife habitat and swimming is not recommended. However, it is perfect for boating, canoeing, kayaking and other activities. Use safety precautions when using the firepit. Use the dock at your own risk.

The house is 29 miles (32 minutes) from Doak Campbell Stadium in downtown Tallahassee and is perfect for football games and graduations.

Fishing -- Lake Talquin is nationally known for its high quality bass, bluegill, black crappie, and speckled perch fishing. The best crappie fishing times occur in winter months January through April. The Florida state record for black crappie (3.81 pounds) was caught in Lake Talquin.

This is a good central location for day trips:
Tallahassee -- government, colleges, and FSU and FAMU sporting events.
Havana -- antiques
Apalachicola -- charming seaside town famous for its oysters

Why they chose this property

This house was originally my great-grandmother's. It was built in 1933 in Quincy, Florida and was moved to Lake Talquin in the 1960s. My grandparents lived there and they loved it! They had an organic garden for decades. Granddaddy made unique items in his shop and Grandma landscaped the property.

What makes this property unique

This house has much of the original charm -- the 5-panel doors, original door handles, heart pine floors -- the original farm kitchen sink is still there but it's moved to the utility room.
