The Rookery is a unique 2.7 acre property with 250 feet of Wild and Scenic Rogue River frontage. The property was originally owned and developed by Ida Lupino and Howard Duff as an out of the way spot to entertain their Hollywood friends. An effort has been made to keep the buildings authentic to the 50's.
There is the opportunity to hear wild turkeys in the morning, share the view with a few deer and step into the river to fish for steelhead, salmon and pike. Come to loose yourself to nature and take a break from the demands of the technological world. The Wren Den is an electronics-free zone as cell phone and wifi service is poor. There is a television and DVDs for when the quiet is just too quiet but board and lawn games are available for your use.
The cabin has a compact refrigerator, microwave, 2 burner gas cooktop and coffee pot with all the pots, pans, tableware and glassware that you will need. Temperature is controlled by electric heat, overhead fan, wood-burning fireplace and air conditioning unit. There is a gas grill on the porch to grill that fresh fish or steak. The grounds provide access to the river, fire pit (restricted during fire season) and chairs on the patios for relaxation, a zip line for youngsters and horse shoes for all.
A two night minimum stay is required but we believe that you will choose to stay longer to take advantage of all the activities available in the area. Grants Pass restaurants and farmer’s market, the Applegate Valley wineries and Cave Junction ’s Marble Caves and Great Cats World Park as well as fishing, white-water rafting and the hiking trails that abound.
