About Kim Wood

We enjoy the quiet here but also the many outdoor activities available in this area. Our favorite activities are fishing, tubing, rafting, exploring & sitting on the deck looking at the sparkling river. Even in the winter, we love sitting on the upper deck chairs or the sofa downstairs, drinking hot Irish Coffee and watching the river flow by on a Saturday morning after a hard week of work in the city. What therapy! I always enjoy driving up here from the south and seeing the first set of BlueRidge Mountains on the skyline, just makes you take that long awaited exhale -- like you're finally at home again. Guess I'm a mountain man after all. Ya'll come on over here and enjoy!

Kim Wood purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Kim Wood chose Epworth

This area has all of the outdoor activities we could ever ask for plus exceptional outdoor beauty, it also makes a very romantic get away. There's nothing that compares to watching a Blue Herring at the bank of Fighting Town creek hunting trout. They get really big up here, wing span of 6'. The stars above on a clear night will AMAZE you, we even keep a telescope up stairs for you to use if you know how. It is very convenient to the town of BlueRidge, McCaysville, Atlanta, Chattanooga & Knoxville. In the heat of summer it is so nice to wade into what we call our natural whirlpool (middle of the creek there is a 4.5' bowl of water) deep enough to sit on the boulders there and keep your head above water. I've almost fallen asleep there it's so relaxing. We had a renter that said that's about all they did when they were there last June. They call places like this 'God's Country', I can understand why. You really connect with nature up here. I couldn't live without our cabin now that my family has experienced it. We want to share it with everybody! I could go on and on -- the scent of the white pinewood when you open the cabin door, the hummingbirds that buzz by in the mornings, the distant howl of a coyote and her pups. Just Awesome. We love to hike the Blueridge mountains, go riding the 4-wheelers, fishing and tubing. I'll trade a beach get-away for this 3 to 1.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin sits on Fightingtown Creek which is about 8-10 miles west of the town of Blueridge. Call us and we'll provide you with the address to do a Google map search.

This cabin is located on a short road off of the main thoroughfare to a small gated community so your privacy is ensured.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The cabin is awesome & clean peaceful. Well stocked with everything we needed. We will be back!

Perfect trip for the boys!

  • 5 of 5

Terrific! I brought 4 boys up to learn some fly-fishing. The river did NOT disappoint! And the cabin was perfect. They all had a great time, and enjoyed the hot-tub almost as much as the fishing. We will be back!

Cozy cabin in the middle of woods between Blue Ridge and White Water rafting.

  • 5 of 5

Great experience in comfortable cabin. 24 hours a day listening to the creek/river flowing over the large stones. Beds were very comfortable. Large fire pit was used in the cool mornings and evenings.

True Rustic Fisherman’s Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! Cabin was clean, comfortable and had amazing property. The decor was true to a rustic fisherman’s getaway. The wrap porch and rockers made for drinking coffee in the mornings while relaxing and listening to the river flow. The hot tub was a great end of the day way to rejuvenate. We didn’t use the fire pit but was a great set up. Tubing was a great experience with just a short walk up the property to drop in and float back to the cabin. (Water shoes highly recommended) When we weren’t enjoying the cabin we highly recommend Toccoa Swinging Bridge, Fainting Goat Vineyards, Bear Claw Vineyards and several other local wineries. There is much to do within short distances.

Good but could have been better

  • 4 of 5

Lightbulbs our. Ice maker worked poorly. No instructions for appliances. Problem getting in cabin. Shouldn’t have to wash towels at end of stay. We needed some of them paid enough not to do housekeeping work. Made things frustrating at times

It was a nice place but could use mirrors place for hanging clothes upstairs

View of creek was great. Made up for some of aggravation

We were older group. Our needs can be different from most vacationers

Owner's Response: Hi Shirley, Glad to have you visiting River Mist Cabin, hope to have you back again soon. I know a light bulb or two going out is a inconvenience, but we can't predict the unpredictable, but what you could do is to call Kim the manager and she would be more than happy to swing by the cabin and install the bulb immediately. We usually have the common bulbs in one of the kitchen drawers or the master bedroom closet as well. As for instructions for the appliances, I guess we could leave the manuals to the refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, cable box and TV, but we know these are such common household items that most figure them out without all the paperwork. I do believe the DirectTV Cable box manuals are in the basket beside the TV. Not sure of the "problem getting into the cabin" was about, we do use a standard door knob lockbox to hold the door Key, pretty simple to operate, just press the 4 digit code that you should have received in your welcome email sent by automation thru VRBO 1 week before arrival (or sooner). About the towels being asked to be washed before leaving. Please remember, we don't have a hotel staff that brings by fresh towels on a cart. The towels are somewhat limited and we only have a 4-5hr turn around before new guests arrive. There is a lot that goes on between guests leaving and a guests arriving. HotTub must be drained and cleaned refilled, all sheets must be wash and dried and re-installed, all dishes put away, not to mention the typical mopping floors, sweeping decks, vacuuming, dusting, replacing any burnt out bulbs, checking for left behind items, etc. There a much more extensive list that management goes by that has more that is not listed. The cleaning charge is industry standard for this size cabin and the requests about the towels is also customary in the cabin rental industry. We thank you for pointing out these things that we strive to improve, we are presently looking into a state-of-the-art keyless combination door lock to modernize a bit more. Hope to see you again soon!

Great location, clean, and friendly neighbors

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was located in a great fishing spot on the river! It was clean and well stocked for cooking. The highs were in the 50s during our stay so the fire pit and hot tub were a big plus! It’s close enough to Blue Ridge that going back into town for dinner or groceries is not a hassle. My only complaint is that we couldn’t stay for another week.
