Lots of space, very quiet, great central location

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful vintage home with nice upgrades. The rooms were large with lots of space for our family to stretch out. I felt it was bigger than the pictures looked.

Even though it is next to a busy highway and a rock/gravel company, it was extremely insulated from sound. There was a backhoe dumping rocks right behind the house and we had no idea while inside.

Great location for hitting all the tourist spots...and LOTS of wineries. The food at Naked Winery right next door is quite good. Also, the Prairie Berry around the bend has an unusually high end menu for the area (with a matching price tag).

The wifi, although weak and a bit spotty, was actually extremely useful since our phone service was almost nonexistent.

The only negative was a very faint "cat smell" after it rained. Very minor and didn't notice once you were inside for a minute.

I'd recommend and would stay again if I'm the area.

Super clean house with lots of charm in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

This house was amazing. The hosts were so nice and thoughtful. Everything we needed was supplied! The charm of the old mining house was wonderful and gave the kids hours of fun thinking of mining ghost stories. The rock shop next door owned by the owners of the house was full of great items and all of the employees were so helpful. The kids had a blast over there too! I can't say enough about the fabulous location of the house. It was close to everything. We couldn't have had a better trip! Thank you Marilyn!!!!

Just right!

  • 5 of 5

The Hidden Treasure house was just right for our family -- just right for four of us (could have easily held more!), just right amenities (pans, dishwasher, washer/dryer, A/C, dishes, towels, etc), and just right location.

We enjoyed Mt. Rushmore (15 minutes), Badlands (1 1/2 hours), Devil's Tower (2 hours), Wind Cave (30 minutes) and Jewel Cave (45 minutes) as well as several other attractions like Needles Highway, Big Thunder Gold Mine, Horse Thief Lake, The Mammoth Site, Evan's Plunge, and The Wildlife Loop at Custer State Park. Hill City was nicely located so that we could do all of these things while still having a comfortable home base to return to at night.

Our family enjoyed chatting at the dining room table as we shared a meal at the end of a long day, as well as catching a show or two on cable. We had been given the heads up that internet and cell phone reception could be spotty. They were, but that was common throughout our travels in the Black Hills and not unique to this house. Hidden Treasure doesn't have a lot of outdoor "play" space, but we had all of the Black Hills to play in, so that didn't bother us a bit. We were happy to put our feet up and relax in the evenings!

When we had a minor concern, Jim and Marilyn were quick to take care of the issue and to make sure that our needs were met. They were wonderful to work with from the time we contacted them about booking the place to the time we checked out.

Hope your vacations are as good as ours!

Can't go back to a hotel now

  • 5 of 5

Our first time using VRBO, and I think it will be hard to simply rent a hotel room again after this. This house feels like home. Very nicely set up, super clean, and has all the amenities of home. After a long day of playing in the Hills, it was nice to come back to the house and feel like you are home. Cook breakfast in the full kitchen, make dinner or BBQ on the back porch. AC on both floors. And even though it is close to the highway, it is VERY quiet inside! And having the Naked Winery next door for the parents to visit is a nice bonus. Next time we vacation in the Hills, you can bet we will try VRBO for the Company House first.
