About the host
Hosted by Mitchell Hentkowski
I grew up just 7 miles down Leer Rd from the Mill and never really paid much attention this place growing up. I went into the military right out of high school and ended up living in Oklahoma. Through the years when we would visit family each summer we would leave and talk about finding some property that we could build a summer home. In 2014 we purchased the property next door and talked for 2 years with the owner about buying all of the original Elowsky Mill Property and in Jan 2016 decided it was time to ensure we could keep the original property in tact with a single owner..
Why they chose this property
When we first walked the property next door in the fall of 2011, the Owner wanted to sell both parcels at one time. At the time, we could not afford it and I could not see how I would utilize the property. After we purchased the southern portion of the land and stayed there over the last couple of years I became more and more interested in keeping all of the historic property together. After many lookers and attempts by potential buyers, the property remained available, for what I believe was meant to be. When you visit this wonderful place and see the beauty of the area and the history of the Mill, you also will understand why!
What makes this property unique
If you are looking for a vacation that the only thing you have to do is relax, then this is the place for you. Sitting on one of the deck or the swing over looking the Thunder Bay River and Mill Pond, you can listen the birds for as long as you like. If you like to fish, the river and pond will provide a mixture of Northern pike, Bass and pan fish. If you enjoy swimming you can do that also down by the mill. There is a canoe and a paddle boat to enjoy the river and pond. You can walk the nearly two miles of trails on the southern portion of the property through acres of beautiful Northern Michigan hardwood forest. In the evening you can start a fire in the pit, sit on the swing and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets you will see anywhere. If you enjoy taking pictures, get up early and see if you can catch the local Eagles or possibly the family of Otters or Beavers. We have Canadian Geese nesting with us on the pond each year. Once you visit, you will understand why the words I have here cannot give justice to this wonderful land, and why when you visit you also will look forward to the next time you can visit.
