About Steve & Bobbie

Captain Steve has spent may years working on the artificial reef program for the State. He also has extensive knowledge of the fishing and crabbing available on the Broadkill River. He's happiest when he's fishing, planning on fishing, or talking about fishing.

Bobbie is recently retired from the hospitality industry and is enjoying every day she no longer has to leave the beach. It has always been in her plans to offer her hospitality to those who wanted to experience the laid back lifestyle that comes with being on Broadkill Beach.

Steve & Bobbie purchased this house in 2006

Why Steve & Bobbie chose Broadkill Beach

This property has become one of the greatest blessings Bobbie and I have ever received because of the wonderful experiences we were able to share with our family and closest friends. Fond memories of breathtaking sunsets over the Wildlife Refuge while sitting on the back deck and then watching the stars appear in the sky; finding the north star, big dipper and identifying other constellations. Turning to the moon, we would determine its phase and discuss the way to remember “Waxing” and “Waning” crescent. The children would search for shooting stars and make a wish. I hope you and your family can create similar memories here at our home at the beach.

This southern section of Broadkill Beach is amazing in that it gives you the true feeling of peace and serenity. When you walk the beach with your morning cup of coffee, you might not see another person anywhere! Privacy, tranquility and serenity are what you experience while walking on the sandy shore of the mouth of the Delaware Bay. Although individuals do not own the beach front, this is a very private area, possibly because there is no legal place to park your vehicles unless you own the property in this section. There is no public parking. This is a beach experience you have never had before. It is perfect for families. It is located on the Delaware Bay and great for smaller children to swim and play, older ones to fish, swim and operate water toys and for parents to let their guard down a little because your family is easily seen at all times due to the fact that there are few or no people within 100 yards of your beach chair. You will not ever find this beach too crowded and will be able to create your own fond memories to carry you into the future. Discover why the southernmost part of Broadkill Beach is the best kept secret in Delaware.

What makes this house unique

All you need to bring with you is your swimsuit, sunscreen, and beach towels. We provide you with linens, bath towels, and a fully-equipped kitchen. It's like having an enormous hotel suite just steps from the beach. If you do enjoy more of the hustle and bustle of a resort area, you're only 20 minutes north of Lewes, DE. Lewes has many things to offer, from Cape Hanelopen State Park and the local charter boats are available. Rehoboth Beach is just a few minutes further south where you find tax-free outlet shopping, the boardwalk with Funland, arcades, and ice cream shops, as well as a water park, go-karts, and movies.

Please contact us with any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you!

The total retreat

  • 5 of 5

This charming and well appointed apartment is situated between a canal on the back and the boardwalk out the front door to the Delaware Bay. Sitting on the back porch with the vista of the verdant marsh, the sounds of quiet fishing boats gliding by, and watching the soaring ospreys creates a state of calm and well being!

In contrast to the of the beach communities further down Route 1, navigating the local sites was easy. The nearby nature conservancy with it’s well planned paths, a trip into the town of Milton for a breakfast of coffee and sweets, and a visit to the Dogfish Head brewery in Milton gives opportunity to explore. And if you’re wanting more the towns of Lewes and Rehobath down the road can satisfy the need for more activity.

If travel brings us back to this area, we will certainly stay with Bobbie and Steve again!

Perfect for a mother / daughter or family get-away!

  • 4 of 5

This place was small, but perfect for my mother and I. The two bedrooms faced a small waterway and then marshlands that were an amazing green. We spent evenings watching the sun set on the screened in porch.

Although the front of the house boarders a road, it is a very quite dead-end road and you are pretty far down it. Across the street you have access to the beach which was nice, but there were bitting flies so bring bug spray. The water was calm and warm which would be perfect for a family.

The only thing to keep in mind [and we were fine with this] is you are 20+ minutes away from restaurants and stores. There is a great deli / convince store about 1 1/2 miles away which was perfect for our needs and had a little bit of everything.

All-in-all I would recommend this place. It was very relaxing and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

Best of Everything!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect stay with Cap Steve, and his family. The place was perfect for us and our two grandchildren. Combination of bay/ocean beach just across the street, and the nature preserve on the back of the house, provided a combination of experiences that were just great -- from swimming to fishing for crabs.

What made our experience so special was the spirit of generosity and community that we experienced with our hosts.
