Quaint 1940s multi story family home. Ocean views, minutes to bayfront and beach

About Paul and Kim Montagne
We purchased this home in dilapidated condition and have been working hard to slowly improve it, and are now ready to share it with others. We have rebuilt most of the top 3 stories and are continuing to work on the basement that is locked off. We have enjoyed having this space to be with family and friends and it's under an hour from our main residence so we have been able to enjoy it often.
Paul and Kim Montagne purchased this House in 2013
Why Paul and Kim Montagne chose Newport
We love the Oregon Coast, the sunrises, sunsets, the amazing views from all rooms of this house, beach and bayfront walks both within a 1/2 mile of the house. Our family enjoys hiking, surfing, tidepools, beach walks, shopping at Bayfront or Nye beach, the Newport Farmers Market, the Aquarium, the Marine Science Center, the many restaurants and the list goes on.

Well stocked house for a beach stay!
This house was perfect for our small group of 5. Two separate bedrooms for the adults and a wonderful loft kids area. Fun beach toys for the kiddos to use. Kitchen was surprisingly very well stocked with all the tools you may need to create a large meal. Location was quick to get to the bayfront, but we felt the need to drive to the beach as it was across main roads from the house. Great communication with the owners - very quick responses before and during our stay. Overall a great house to stay in for our beach weekend getaway - we will return!
Great home for multi-generation family trip.
Good spaces for together time, small groups or solitude. Close to the ocean and the bay. Lots of thoughtful touches for guests.
We have stayed several times at this wonderful home on Abbey St. Perched on top of a hill, it has beautiful views of both Yaquina Bay and the ocean. The home is comfortable and cozy and easy to be in. We love this place and hope to stay here again!!
Girls weekend at its best
Our stay was just what we'd hoped for. Kim was super helpful and answered our questions promptly.
The location was spot on. Gorgeous views and there house was stocked with every necessity.
Thanks again Kim for hosting our girls weekend.
Joanne and friends.
What a relaxing base of operations for a fun and busy weekend! The owners provide so many amenities above and beyond what you’d expect. We had just as much fun hanging out at our home away from home as we did sight seeing in Newport. Thank you so much to our hosts!
Excellent views & location but not for extended stays
Pros: beautiful view, cozy home, excellent location, well appointed kitchen, strong WiFi, nice sound system, plenty of hot water, prompt communication
Cons: very very dirty (appears clean at first, but don’t look in the corners...), carpet is really gross and rippled- mega trip hazard, upstairs (only full bath) needs attention- orange gunk around all the edges showing signs of being super old, shower curtain slimy pink due to too much use, blankets and towels appeared freshly laundered but are in need of replacement (pilled/stained), furniture is old and smelly and the dressers has spiders in them, super steep stairs with slippery carpet- all of us almost fell down multiple times, carpet in loft was so disgusting- you could feel it under your feet (our teen wouldn’t go barefoot), dishes were not very clean...
The kicker to it all was that there wasn’t any laundry available. On site laundry was listed in the ameneties and unfortunately we missed that clause written in the notes about the listing. Real bummer when you’re at the coast for 6 nights! Even hotels have laundry available. I hope they remedy this ASAP. There were 9 bath towels for 5 of us for the week. My mother in law brought some over for us to use and wash back at her house in Eugene. Owner was prompt in replying but was a bit rude in implying that we expected daily linen service when I asked about it. No, of course we don’t expect that but we do expect to be able to have enough clean towels for nearly a week. We’re cool using the same towels for a couple days but for 6 days? Really? No thanks. These folks have low standards of cleanliness... if you’re cool with that or only going for 1-2 nights that’d be fine I’m sure but I’d look elsewhere for longer stays.
Our .house is located on the hill above the historic bayfront. A five minute walk leads to several of the . best restaurants in Newport, fresh seafood markets, and shops.
