About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Sweeping long range and city mountain views. Drive 5 minutes and you will arrive downtown with all it has to offer. At night, experience the dazzling view of the city lights. New hot tub now open year round. Despite its proximity to town, this house is very private. From the expansive back decks on a summer day, you can often hear distant music drifting up through the trees from the Brevard Music Center. In the fall, take in the amazing mountain view of changing leaves. Enjoy a huge stacked stone fireplace with large dining room and living room both with fabulous views. The kitchen has river rock granite counter-tops and new stainless steel appliances.

For cyclists... there is also a garage to store bikes or other outdoor equipment. Bracken Mountain Trail is almost just outside our back door.

The property also features a private pool and hot tub (pool open only during the summer) surrounded by beautiful stacked stone rock work. There is a gated playground with a swing set, and a custom made tree-house for the bigger kids. The playground also has a picnic table and fire ring for backyard camp-outs. Also enjoy a lower kids deck with ping pong table and tire swing. For kicking back after an active day, the kids can hang out in the indoor game room with a Netflix ready TV/DVD with wifi and an air hockey table.

About Robin McCollough

One of us is a cyclist/hiker and the other an art/ theater lover. Brevard, Asheville and surrounding areas are a haven for both. We live 30 minutes away from the house.

Robin McCollough purchased this house in 2002

Why Robin McCollough chose Brevard

Husband grew up going to camp here as a child. We vacationed here for 20 years before finally buying a house in the area.

What makes this house unique

When we considered selling this house the realtor said it was so unique he wouldn't know how to compare it to anything. It's a private family vacation compound in the middle of the woods, but you can get in the car and in minutes be in downtown Brevard. When we bought the property in 2002, the pool inspector gave us the history of how the pool had been built and the rock work implemented. It is remarkable because it is on the side of a mountain. He told us that he had actually submitted a bid to build the pool many years ago, but had made it outrageous never believing that it would have been possible to do. We also have an eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary art in this house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your home has surpassed our expectations. How beautiful and relaxing even with kids and grandkids! Each child had a spot to relax in and the adults were able to talk. We loved having our family reunion, birthdays and July 4th here. My parents came up twice. They are not in good health so it was perfect for them to come and go as they needed to. You were the perfect host and hostess - helping us with the pool etc. We have made some precious memories here.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

It was the best place to be over the holidays. Felt like a home away from home. My kids and family loved it, it may turn into a family tradition to go annually.

Cozy, kid friendly and gorgeous views.

This rental is spacious and cozy. The mountain views and fireplaces made it the best place to be during the holidays. The large kitchen was perfect for making family dinners and the rooms were large and comfortable.

Enjoyed our stay and are definitely going back!

  • 5 of 5

I am so glad that we picked this house for our little family vacation. Location is great with plenty of privacy with easy access to all the attractions of the area. It is only minutes away from downtown Brevard. The house itself is gorgeous and beautifully decorated. It is superbly comfortable and clean. The view is spectacular! The owners Robin and Mark were awesome. They were readily available to assist you in every step of the way. Next time we plan to visit Brevard, NC we know where to stay.

A beautiful home perfect for the family.

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for our family. The kids enjoyed the game room and toys. We were looking for a place to call home- and this house was near perfect. Vacationing with small children is really hard, and this house made it easy. The game room had a ton of toys and movies, albeit a little dated, but our little ones didn't mind one bit. The gate at the top of the stairs kept them safe. It was a huge treat to know they were safe and that the house was safe from them, at all times. They loved the swing set. And toasting marshmallows at the fire pit was a real treat. We had a little trouble with the "wi-fi" and a technician from the cable company ultimately had to come out and make a repair to the company's network, this was completely out of the owners control. But they were friendly and easy to get a hold of the whole time.

We were out of season for the pool, but we are definitely considering another trip just to experience that view- pool side. The house is truly close to town- which was great for last minute grocery store runs. The linens were of a solid quality as were the furnishing and kitchen ware. Everything felt like "home", and not like a "rental"- where often times things have been used and abused.

Highly Recomend
