Why Tammy Waterhouse chose Mercer

Tammy and Gary were inspired to purchase this property as it is located in such a pristine untouched part of Northern Wisconsin. Tammy's late father, Rollie Bessett, founder and former owner of Rollie and Helen's Musky Shop in Minocqua, WI spent many years in this area near the Gile Flowage where he retired. Iron County is an outdoor lovers paradise. We are excited to share the Northwoods experience with you from our home.

Spacious and Well Maintained Log Lome

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of room to congregate as a group while also providing quiet corners to be alone and curl up with a good book. Everything about this home is first class. We were a group of seven adult family members looking to share the outdoors with each other and pass along stories of our family's history. This home was perfect!

Tammy could not have been more accommodating or helpful to us, giving us suggestions for outdoor activities (boating to a shooting range) to making available for our use her pontoon boat, paddle boards and canoes. It was a great week!

If you'd like to re-connect with each other in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, this is the place.

Beautiful, lakeside, log home with excellent amenities and cozy touches

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Last Wilderness Retreat home for a family gathering, and it more than exceeded our expectations. The owners are excellent communicators, and made sure every question we had was answered quickly. Their home is wonderfully secluded, but close to Mercer, WI, where a well stocked market met all our food and beverage needs. This home is spacious and perfectly appointed for its log home aesthetic - hardwood floors, splendid rugs, and plenty of couches, pillows, and blankets to curl up on a cold day, or retreat for a nap on a warm one. The views of the lake from the main living areas, kitchen, and a few of the bedrooms are beautiful, and we saw exceptional sunsets in June. The gourmet kitchen has everything you need to cook anything you want, and the gas grill works perfectly. We spent many hours on the deck, which has plenty of seating and hummingbird visitors! The lower level beds are perfect for kids of all ages, and a first floor master bedroom, with fireplace and bath, accommodated our mother easily. The two upper level bedrooms have their own baths, and one even has a fireplace! We enjoyed taking out the pontoon on the pristine lake, using the canoe, and relaxing in the enclosed hot tub. The bedding and beds were so comfortable. We took advantage of the wood burning fireplace downstairs to wind down our day, and plenty of wood was available to do so. We departed Last Wilderness Retreat with fond memories of our family get-together in the perfect home, and would pick this home again for any gathering, without hesitation!

Christmas in the Northwoods

  • 5 of 5

This home is ideal for anyone looking to get together with a group and have plenty of space to interact and relax. Our extended family (9 adults, 5 children) drove up from Chicago to spend Christmas together and we were not disappointed. Tammy went above and beyond preparing her home for us including Xmas tree and lights throughout to make us feel right at home.

Our kids had a great day skiing at Indianhead which was only a 20 minute scenic drive away from the house. After skiing you can jump in the hot tub or just chill by the fire. Some people in the group never left the house instead opting for puzzles in the game room or reading a book.

Thank you again for sharing your home with us Tammy, the place is an absolute treasure.

This house is amazing! Fully stocked with everything you could need, beautiful furnishings, great amenities. The house is great for a group of people with lots of spaces to play games, hang out, eat, etc. We made full use of the hot tub, outdoor fireplace, paddle boards and kayak. The house is very well kept and has everything you could ask for. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would definitely rent again!

Wilderness Retreat – Amazing home with views to match!

  • 5 of 5

The photos of this cabin don’t begin to tell the story! This home is gorgeous and has room for everything and everyone. We were thrilled with this property and the surrounding area. My wife couldn’t remember staying anywhere without worrying about the kids or other guests making noise and interrupting others during our stay! That was never a worry here! The home is spacious (the kitchen well stocked), with everything you could possibly need. We didn’t even use the fireplaces…too many other things to do like spending time in the library/reading room (with a gorgeous view of the lake), canoe, kayak, stand-up paddle-board or sit on the very spacious deck and enjoy nature on a beautiful, quiet, loon filled lake. If that isn’t enough, you can enjoy the gorgeous hot tub, or the outdoor fire pit (as well as a very cool deck fireplace) after the sun goes down.

If you like to sit outside and and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, and not hear A SINGLE man made noise...this is the place for you. If you like to be on a lake that is clear, peaceful, and quiet, this is the place for you! If you enjoy a stunning property with all the extras this is the place for you. Thanks Tammy and Gary for sharing your beautiful home and for being amazing owners!
