About the property

Pet friendly, clean, and completely renovated

**** NEW IN 2016 We did lots of great renovation for our beach house this winter! We are so excited to have the beach house ready for our guests for the 2016 season. A new master bath added along with a larger sq. footage for the bedrooms with fans. New flooring installed throughout the house, new windows, updated furniture, new bedding, and freshly painted. A new outdoor shower and new patio furniture on the main level deck will complete our renovations! Our Rodanthe Beach House is close the beach & pet friendly. “Four Oh One Kay” is a classic, cozy pet friendly Hatteras Island cottage with a short walk to the beach access via Sudie Payne Road. A convenient one level floor plan with a spacious great room makes it perfect for families. The living room, dining room and kitchen are all attached and open making together time more convenient than ever.

'Four Oh One Kay' features a spacious living room with overstuffed couches and armchair to make summer evenings just a little more relaxing while the family is gathering. The kitchen is right next to you with a wonderful buffet center island that includes your stove and small appliances great for breakfasts and lunches! Plenty of space for a couple of kitchen cooks to move around and prepare the family meals. The dining area is cozy with plenty of chairs for the household. Lots of windows are all around you so there is plenty of light for those early morning breakfasts.

The bedrooms are all together down the hall. The large master suite features its own full bathroom, deck with private outdoor shower, and television. The blue room has a queen size bed with a television. The bunk bedroom even features a childrens table and chair set with their own television for kid time.

The homeowner made extensive upgrades and repairs to the underside of the house including a sandy spot for the kids or dogs to play out of the summer sun. Fully enclosed showers upstairs and down stairs is just waiting for you to cool off after a long day at the beach! Lastly is the fish cleaning table for the angler in your family, fresh water to keep everything clean has been added too.

This home is located close to Hatteras Island stores, shopping, restaurants and attractions. The historic Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station is just a short walk on the beach from “Four Oh One Kay” and exploring it is a great way to spend an early morning or late afternoon. The recently added huge decks with screened porch and rooftop deck offer expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean and amazing sound side sunsets.

About Grace Andriliunas

We live in Poquoson VA and have vacationed with our family in the Outer Banks for years before discovering the beauty of Hatteras Island. We fell in love with Rodanthe and finally found our “Dream Beach Cottage” back in 2009. We spend many (many) weekends working on the house to keep it clean and in good repair so our guest will can have an affordable vacation while enjoying to tranquility of beautiful beaches and slower pace of Hatteras Island.

Grace Andriliunas purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Grace Andriliunas chose Rodanthe

Water sports are popular on the shores of this beach because of the great winds the Southern Outer Banks gets. If you've already tried the amazing sport of wind surfing or kite boarding, then you probably bring your own boards. For those looking to get in on the action, REAL Kite boarding offers lessons for the sport indigenous to the Outer Banks. Or, if you just need rentals, you can find most any kind of water sport equipment at the shop. The Chicamacomico Life Saving Station provides education entertainment with their museum. They also perform re-enactments of life saving venture each week. Environmentalist enjoy the wildlife refuge just north of the area, where many different species of birds call home. No matter what you're after, you'll find it in Rodanthe.

What makes this cottage unique

In 2002, Nicholas Sparks published the book Nights in Rodanthe that was later adapted into a movie. George C. Wolfe directed this film adaptation, which was partially filmed in the town of Rodanthe and entirely filmed in eastern North Carolina – including Cape Hatteras, Southport and Wilmington. The movie was released on September 26, 2008. Several Rodanthe landmarks such as the Rodanthe Pier were used during filming. During film production, one of the rental houses, Serendipity, the north-easternmost house in Rodanthe, was transformed into the fictional Inn at Rodanthe. This house was damaged and condemned after a Nor'easter storm in November 2009. The house was saved from demolition by a private business man from Newton, N.C. and moved less than one mile south

House and property were just as posted on home away. House was spotless and very comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Clean and comfortable, loved the outdoor decks especially at sunrise and sunset-you get both ocean in front ,and sound side out back. Also at nite the stars and Milky Way were incredible. The beach was quiet and beautiful-maybe 500 steps if that. Neighborhood is really quiet, and you are centrally located to many things to do and places to eat.House is well stocked, everything worked. Grace was very friendly and helpful in getting property reserved. If you are looking for relaxing and quiet outbanks experience-check out this home away from home. Home was comfortable and looked to be just upgraded threw out.

Wonderful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This was by far our favorite family vacation yet! And this house was a huge part of that! First of all, it was a lovely walk to the beach, I counted and it was less than 500 steps. The house itself was perfect for our family of four. My girls loved sleeping in bunk beds. The king bed was the perfect firmness for my husband and I. I loved the color on the walls in the living area, so much so I'm going to paint a room at our house the same color! (Sherwin Williams Rainwashed if anyone else is wondering!) The kitchen was well stocked with all supplies we needed to prepare our meals. The house was so clean and comfortable, my daughter cried when we left! :)

We loved our stay and would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting Rodanthe!

Interior Decor very nice - Beach Access not happening

  • 3 of 5

Pros: *cute little house, nice furniture and great set-up. *Great decks, screened-in porch, and lookout tower, *close proximity to the Public Beach Access (which we were forced to use throughout our stay), Waves Market & Seafood, the Taco Food Truck, Waterman's, and many other awesome places, *owner/s were very pleasant and quick to respond when we were dismayed with the beach access issues.

Cons: **beach access path was washed out (1-2 feet of standing water at least) prior to our arrival so we had no beach (walking) access. The end of Sudie Payne Rd at Rte 12 was also under water (as it is every time it rains) so we were pretty much blocked in with no adjoining neighborhoods to walk thru. This was a major bummer. **When we got home I noticed the very strong smell of mustiness/mildew on everything from clothing to backpacks to aluminum soda cans! The smell is still in my laptop bag. **Very bad bugs/mosquitos from the standing water outside although a pickup truck came by one of the nights and sprayed the entire area which was crucial and really helped. **A total of four (4) cockroaches found in and around master bathroom. I think the bathroom vanity could use better sealing- that may be their way in, **the area is a little run down; the permanent neighbors and all the stray cats were a little unnerving/unsettling to us.

All in all, we liked it but would not rent again.

Owner's Response: Some guests should not come down to the island after a hurricane. Trust me they won't be invited back! The whole island had standing water and recovering from a stressful event, which the aftermath does include bugs and flyes. Some people can't handle the outdoors. Also, my house has never has roaches, we spray every year, however we have seen water bugs.....this lady may not know the difference. Please don't come back to the island.....too rustic and real for you.
