Description

Coloma Cottage Rental Photos and Description

This bright and fresh cottage was meticulously renovated and furnished in 2011. Tucked away in the trees among other cottages, the property is also RV friendly if you want to park your own camper or trailer on the site. The property has a modern kitchen, modern bathroom, flatscreen TV, firepit and more. It is very close to one of the nicest parks and beaches on Lake Michigan. We are very proud of this property! This property is clean and new and the beach is only a few steps down from the bluff above, making it perfect for families.

Why Craig Jolly chose Southwest

This property is new and fresh. It was renovated in 2011 and has a modern kitchen and bath, quality wood floors, and nice furnishings. It sits among tall trees and other cottages in a quaint area that you will want to call home. A fabulous community beach is the equivalent of about four blocks away.

Simple, quiet cottage with great access to Lake Michigan and nearby towns

  • 4 of 5

We spent a long 4th weekend at the cottage with our two little boys. It was quiet, relaxing and easy experience.

The extra-clean has the basics to have a self-contained experience (grill, full-ultensils, linens, etc), but 10 minutes from two great Michigan towns - St. Joseph and South Haven.

The public beach - Hagar Beach - has access to beautiful waterfront and is a one minute drive down the hill.

The owners were easy to contact and very gracious.

So Happy

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here this past week and were so happy we did. Not only was the house spic and span but was stocked with everything you could need (except towels). Which we knew about and were happy to bring our own. Sitting outside on the deck with complete privacy was the best. My daughter wants to book for late fall or spring of next year. Thank you John...you could not over rate this place.

Clean. cozy cottage close to all Michigan offers!

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is updated, clean, and tidy. It is down a gravel road tucked away in a densely forested area. It's very private. There's an outdoor grill and a front porch with a table for outdoor dining. There's a large lawn so bring corn-hole, horseshoes, and beach towels for sunning. The cottage is great for 2 people, but can accommodate 4 people comfortably.

My girlfriend is a wine lover. And, I am a beer lover. We both love a good meal. I planned a surprise trip to Michigan for her birthday this past July. We ate delicious meals in Saugatuck and Douglas Michigan. We sunned on the beaches of Lake Michigan. We visited a festival in St. Joseph. We visited the New Holland Brewery in Holland Michigan, Virtue Cider Company and Fenn Valley Vineyards in Fennville Michigan for tours.

The point I'm trying to make is that we were able to take short day trips to do all of these different activities from our cottage, which was conveniently located. I believe that if one goes into this rental situation intending to use the cottage as a place to sleep and securely keep one's things while exploring the great state of Michigan, one can't go wrong! My girlfriend and I love the state of Michigan and plan to return for a visit soon. We will use this cottage again.

Wonderful Michigan Vacation Rental!

  • 5 of 5

A group of four of us stayed at this property and had the best weekend. It is very clean and well kept. The beach is within walking distance and the neighbors were all very friendly. Loved the firepit. Appreciated the price. Looking forward to a repeat visit. Oh and one more thing to note - the owner was quick to refund the security deposit.

Overpromised and underdelievered

I would not recommend this property. I've stayed at other properties listed on VRBO and have never been as disappointed as I was with this cabin. It was much more expensive than staying at a hotel without the amenities. The cabin is located down a dirt road and a longer walk to the beach than what is described on the website.

Upon arrival there was no toilet paper. When I called the manager, he told me to go buy some and he would reimburse me (I only received the money after contacting him 2 weeks later). You are required to bring your own bath towels and the manager asks that you wash all bed linens before leaving. This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't take over an hour for the sheets to dry and if I hadn't overpaid for this property.

When I booked the cabin, the description stated that the cabin slept 6. While I only had a party of 4, it was quite cramped between the sofa sleeper and a trundle bed. When I asked the property manager about this, the reply was "it will sleep 6 if someone brings a tent or pak n'play". I see the website now states the property sleeps 4 so at least the owner is now forethright about that aspect of the property.

The cabin is only partially finished. The one bedroom has a partical board floor and the shower is extremely small with cracks that have been caulked to hold it together. If you press against the shower walls they move, so good luck to anyone trying to take a normal shower.

In all fairness, the property owner and manager were polite about all my questions and concerns. That said, I would be polite as well if I had charged my guests Trump Hotel prices for a Motel 6 experience.

Owner's Response: We are very surprised how disappointed Hollie was with the property. This is the second year we have used this cottage as a vacation rental. It has been booked solid. This is the first negative review we have received. Most of our guests have been very happy with it. I would be happy to respond to Hollie's concerns: The property did not have toilet paper and paper towels for the guest. Our mistake. We gladly reimbursed her for this with an apology for the inconvenience. The property is on a dirt road. Lots of cottages by the lake are on dirt roads. Our listing and our agreement both say that guests must bring their own towels. (We find that they tend to disappear!) This was no surprise to the guest. We ask guests to break down the bedding and put them in the washer if time allows -- this is not a requirement. It just helps out the cleaning crew. We are very clear in our communications what bedding the property has. It is a one bedroom cottage. It has twin trundle beds that convert to a queen in the bedroom; and a queen sofa bed in the living room. We state this on our VRBO listing as well as a PDF we email to most prospective guests. Photos of all the rooms are provided in the PDF so there is no mistaking how the cottage is equipped. This should not have been a surprise to the guest. Most people seem to like that we have a clean, modern and relatively new shower. I have never had a complaint about its size or how it is caulked. There are sure some musty showers in old cottages; ours is not one of them! The flooring in the bedroom is painted luan. It's nice! We felt the guest paid a fair rate for this property. If you are interested in renting this property, please ask us to quote a rate. We think they are very reasonable! We are not priced like a Trump Hotel -- and it's ridiculous to compare this cute cottage to a Motel 6. Please check out the pics. This property has been meticulously renovated and is nicely furnished. If you are considering this property for a getaway or summer vacation, please feel free to call with any questions you might have. We would be happy to accommodate you!
