Overview

About the property

This bright and fresh cottage was meticulously renovated and furnished in 2011. Tucked away in the trees among other cottages, the property is also RV friendly if you want to park your own camper or trailer on the site. The property has a modern kitchen, modern bathroom, flatscreen TV, firepit and more. It is very close to one of the nicest parks and beaches on Lake Michigan. We are very proud of this property! This property is clean and new and the beach is only a few steps down from the bluff above, making it perfect for families.

Why Craig Jolly chose Southwest

This property is new and fresh. It was renovated in 2011 and has a modern kitchen and bath, quality wood floors, and nice furnishings. It sits among tall trees and other cottages in a quaint area that you will want to call home. A fabulous community beach is the equivalent of about four blocks away.

Map

This property is in a fabulous, treed location. St. Joseph is a straight shot down M-63, and South Haven is located to the north. Nearby are a fabulous park and beach, antique dealers, terrific golf courses and wineries. We are super-close (just a few blocks) to a terrific family beach and park with just a few steps down to the water.

Clean, comfy, relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We were actually given a different place to stay than we planned, but in same area. Nice, with a 2nd bedroom and screened in front porch. Downside was noisy German Shepard across the way. Very peaceful place without that dog! The beach was oractically our own because it was late Sept - but a very hot weekend so a bonus for us. The place was clean, had most of what you need (no can opener LOL) with a pretty wooded lot to the one side. Town is 5 miles away, it felt Countryish, yet gorgeous Lake MI down the street! Owner asked that we wash sheets, and price was right, but the dryer was not working so we hung them in basement. I'd go back, yes!

Nice Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here in August 2017 for 3 nights. The cottage has been nicely updated and has a huge backyard. The kitchen is well equipped and the livingroom nicely furnished. The sleeper sofa works well for children (matress is rather thin). If he trundle bed in the bedroom is pulled out there is almost no room to walk, however, it worked fine for us. The shower stall is European style and works, but a little fixing of the sliding doors wouldn't hurt. All in all we had a good time at the cottage and would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a simple cottage. The walk to Lake Michigan is easy and the location of the cottage is very quiet.

Left on your own to figure it out!

  • 2 of 5

We booked the cabin for three nights and received a reply that instructions would be sent before our arrival. We did not receive them. When we arrived at 4:00 pm Saturday, we called the contact number, and he said that the key was under the mat. The cottage had not been cleaned. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher, wet sheets in the washer, no tp or paper towels, and a very nice fireplace with no remote or instructions. Two different sets of Instructions to access the beach were unclear. We ended up driving to Hagar Park. The queen sized bed shown on the website is a sofabed. Trundle bed in bedroom. Fix these issues, and it could be perfect. Surrounded by trees and very quiet.

Owner's Response: Paul: I apologize that a scheduling error on my part resulted in the property not being clean or stocked with supplies. That was totally our mistake. We pride ourselves on having the property clean and ready to go. The property has a trundle bed in the bedroom that converts to a queen and a sofa bed in the living room. Prior to next season we should post better directions to the beach. Maybe we could put signs on trees that mark the trail. We would like to offer you a complimentary stay with us next year as our way of we're sorry the property wasn't ready. Craig

Cute Place.. Slightly Awkward Layout

  • 3 of 5

This place was cute.. it says that it can sleep four, but with the layout it makes more sense for two. You have to walk thru the bathroom to get to the bedroom.. so you'll have to coordinate bathroom & shower times well! The front door takes some getting used to to unlock.. it sticks. Also, it would be helpful to have some instructions on the TV.. the best advise was to press the all the buttons until something works. Having the outdoor space to grill & make s'mores made up for the awkwardness of the interior.

Cute cottage nestled in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our 5 days here and grew to love this part of southwestern Michigan. The cottage was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils, paper products, and cleaning supplies. We made use of the fire pit one evening and loved that feature. It is very secluded and private, but yet minutes away from many vineyards (we recommend Karma Vineyard), restaurants, and beaches.

The beach is indeed within walking distance, though if you have much to carry, you will probably prefer driving. The beach has eroded some and consequently is quite narrow. Don't expect long walks on this beach, but do expect spectacular sunsets. We visited beaches in South Haven, Benton Harbor, and St. Joseph. Silver Beach (St. Joe) is absolutely not to be missed! We also discovered top notch restaurants in those cities and were very impressed. Trip Advisor was an excellent guide to the area.

Negatives: the front door is very challenging to unlock, so persevere in your attempts! The weak feature of the cottage is the bedroom. When the trundle is pulled out, you have about 6 inches of space to move around in. Also, the window air conditioner is in the living area and is effective there, but the coolness does not make it back to the bedroom. There was a small fan we could have used to try to get some circulation, but it was broken. There is also a ceiling fan which we used when we weren't trying to sleep -- we had to have it off at night because it was annoyingly loud. So it was a bit toasty.

Would we stay here again? For sure! Would we recommend it? Yes!

Simple, quiet cottage with great access to Lake Michigan and nearby towns

  • 4 of 5

We spent a long 4th weekend at the cottage with our two little boys. It was quiet, relaxing and easy experience.

The extra-clean has the basics to have a self-contained experience (grill, full-ultensils, linens, etc), but 10 minutes from two great Michigan towns - St. Joseph and South Haven.

The public beach - Hagar Beach - has access to beautiful waterfront and is a one minute drive down the hill.

The owners were easy to contact and very gracious.
