My impression of the 5 bedroom cottage in Fanore

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we entered the the farming hamlet of Fanore I realized we had found just what we had been looking for. We were coming from Shannon after being in a busy Dublin, Waterford, Kinsale, Dingle and Ennis. I wanted to see and talk with locals. I found that in Fanore and Ballyvaughan. The unique Burren was wonderful as well as beautiful. Anne and her house was just perfect for us. A big cottage with lots of space to spread out. The peat that was provided lasted our entire four day stay, with a cozy fire every evening. Walks on Fanore Beach were relaxing. My wife especially enjoyed waking up to see the livestock curiously watching us roam about. The kitchen was well laid out and had any utensil we needed. The secure parking at the front door was convenient and dinner in Ballyvaughan (a short drive away) had several good restaurants to chose from.

There were several interesting attractions near by and Sunday Mass at the local church made the stay complete. Thanks Anne.

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

Great house with all amenities. Ann was wonderful and so nice. Most attractions are anywhere from a 20 minute to hour drive. It is a perfect location to check out the sites. Some lovely villages about 15 minute drive either way. We had great meals in the two local restaurants. If you want something other than pub food, try Vasco. They had good food and wine. Closing times are earlier then the pub. The owner of the local convenience store was so nice. We went every night to pick up groceries and ice cream. The beaches are nice, but be warned the water is cold! Didn't stop our children, though. The roads are narrow, so if you rent a car, get a small one. The buses don't get out of your way. We had a lovely time! Cows as our neighbors, peace and quiet. Thank you again Ann!

Beautiful stay in the Burren!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our 18 year old twins, Patrick and Mary, cannot praise this cottage and especially it's owner, Anne Pilkington, enough! The cottage is adorable with it's bright yellow half door. Yes, of course we all had our pictures taken standing behind it! It maintains the charm of a traditional Irish home, but with every modern convenience. The twins particularly loved spotting the many rabbits hopping around the clover filled lawns, and of course the alpacas, too! Pat and Mary also got quite the workout hiking up the fields behind the house to a walking/running path at the top of hill. The late sunsets in June were perfect for nighttime strolls on nearby Fanore Beach. Gorgeous!.We toured the Burren, Ailwee Caves, Cliffs of Moher and Galway all of which were lovely , and not long drives from the house. Music was great in O'Connor's in Doolin....there is no place like Clare for traditional music and set dancing! This was our first stop on our 3 week holiday to Ireland. Unfortunately, on the flight over, my husband became quite ill with fever, chills, bodyaches. At first it appeared to be the flu and as soon as we got to the house which was quite early in the day, Anne immediately let us in and Kieran went straight to bed. When he awoke in the morning his arm had a large bullseye shaped rash which I mmediately saw as a sign of Lyme Disease, caused by a tick bite at home in Massachusetts. Anne got us in touch with a doctor straight away and long story short, my husband eventually got the type of antibiotic needed to treat Lyme. The drug was at a pharmacy in Lisdoonvarna...a bit of a drive from Fanore. Anne so kindly offered to drive to Lisdoonvarna to pick up the medicine! My husband was so ill with this disease, it was heartbreaking. How fortunate we were to have a washer and dryer right there and be able to change sheets and keep his PJS comfy and clean. After a few days on the antibiotics, he improved immensely, but we can never thank Anne and Dr O'Dea's office in Ballyvaughn for being so helpful. Unfortunately when we returned home and my husband was off the oral antibiotics, he relapsed and was in hospital for a few days. He is home but STILL remains on IV infusion of antibiotics. We hope this course of treatment will end August 18th. SOOOO, my main point is that despite the misfortune of his illness, our entire family would highly recommend this lovely home as the perfect place to experience The Wild Atlantic Way! Thanks so much, Anne.!

Lovely location!

  • 5 of 5

Fanore Cottage was a lovely location from which to explore the Barrens. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate as much as we would have liked so we did more indoor activities such as Doolin Caves and Bunratty Castle. Anne was a lovely host and checked on us to make sure that we had what we needed and offered suggestions as to what to do. She even showed us how to start peat in the fireplace. That was a first! :) Overall, the accommodations were clean and roomy. My only constructive comment would be to get new showerheads to make the experience even better. (but this was not a deal breaker by any means).

A beautifull well equipped and maintained holiday home in a spectacular surrounding.

This place was exactly as we expected it and as listed inVRBO.

Anne Pilkington has taken good care of us in all respects and furthermore assisted us with her

knowledge of walking trails in the Burren.

We really can recommend this cottage and naturally did so to our relatives and friends.

An Irish "cottage" in the twenty-first century. The homes setting is ideal along with the location.

  • 5 of 5

A great host, Anne , who provided all requests. Everything was provided as described. Very clean and even changed linens and towels as needed. So quiet and peaceful. Cows, horses and alpacas in the fields. You need a car to explore the surrounding towns but this area is well suited for trail walks throughout the Burren. Being from the USA we were not familiar with the electrical systems. A switch needs to be turned on for hot water and to use the range. If you plug into an outlet, be sure to turn on the switch. A well provided kitchen for pots and pans and utensils. Grocery stores and fish markets within driving distance. Close to the Cliffs of Mohr, Doolin and Galway. I would highly recommend this home especially for extended stays.
