Pros: Location, location, location. Literally a 2-3 minute walk to the beach from the front door. Also within an easy walk to Captiva Village (restaurants, coffee shops, the famous Mucky Duck & Bubble Room, etc.) Also an easy walk down the beach to the Tween Waters Inn and the fun activities they host there! (Hermit Crab Races; Drag Queen Bingon.) The caged-in pool is huge and heated. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our family. Wifi speed is great, even with 2 teen boys gaming/streaming Netflix. Never ran out of hot water in a family of long shower-takers. The house is semi-updated; mostly clean, especially the floors.
Cons: Needs better maintenance/upkeep. Examples: One part of the dishwasher is being held together with duct tape. The outdoor area underneath the house is cluttered and unkempt. Several pieces of broken outdoor furniture are piled around in corners, and we couldn't tell the last time the area was hosed down/swept; rust stains on side of the pool need to be painted/covered; ping pong table is in bad condition; spiders everywhere building webs inside the pool cage. We also had to put all of our food items in ziplocks (e.g. crackers) due to tiny ants in the kitchen. This is a common problem in SW Florida, though, so I don't blame the rental company for that one. Also upon doing a load of laundry, I realized the drier had no vent to the outdoors. I called the rental company and they sent someone out to fix it within an hour, so that was good.
Inside the house, the hall bath upstairs is nicely updated. The master baths on the upper and lower levels are not as nice as they look in the photos and have mildew in the shower. We also couldn't put much of anything in the upstairs master closet due to three old TVs sitting on the floor. My only other suggestion is to have the kitchen a bit better stocked--there were no plastic cups for use by the pool, for example, and it just seems like no one has gone through the kitchen in a while to make sure there's a good balance of the items needed by most renters and that those items are in great condition.
Still, I would probably stay there again given the location and proximity to the beach, Captiva Village, and the Tween Waters Inn. With some elbow grease and de-cluttering/re-stocking, this place would get much a higher rating from me.
