About the property

The perfect destination for families (and their dogs!) to experience the numerous adventures available to explore in Tahoe/ Truckee. Our home has a convenient layout enjoyable for both a single family as well as to share with another, sleeping 8. First floor: Open kitchen/dining/living area leading through double sliders to private back deck and wooded flat yard, full bath with jacuzzi tub, bedroom 1 with queen, bedroom 2 with 4 twin bunks. Upstairs: bedroom 3 with king, large bathroom with shower and loft area with flat screen TV (NetFlix, cable, WIFI) and storage shelves stocked with games, legos, art supplies, toys.

All beds have new matresses, linens and down duvets. The couch in the living room is a queen sofa bed. Both baths and kitchen are updated with everything you need to feel at home. The backyard is flat creating a safe area for children and dogs to explore (no scary flights of stairs!) and has a horseshoe pit. Our family has rented using VRBO numerous times and understand what makes a home a fabulous place to vacation. We have done our best to ensure this experience for our guests.

Tahoe Donner is our favorite place for families in the Tahoe area. Please visit TDs wonderful website for daily updates on special events and activities as well as information on the numerous amenities available to our guests for a nominal fee with guest cards. In the summer spend your days hiking, biking or horseback riding on the extensive TD trail system, enjoying the private beach for homeowners at Donner Lake, swimming in 3 pools/ hot tubs, golfing, playing tennis. At Northwoods clubhouse enjoy movie nights, dining at Pizza on the Hill on the fire-pit warmed patios while your kids play on the play structure a few feet away. BBQ and play Bocce Ball or sand volleyball. Your possibilities are endless--plan on good times, fun people, and treasured memories. We keep notes on the various hikes and swimming holes we discover and enjoy sharing the information with guests.

In the winter, teach your kids to ski at Donner's own beginning/ intermediate ski hill. What it lacks in terrain, it makes up for in price! On Tuesdays of this past season, parents and children under six ski FREE! The cross country ski center is one of the most extensive in the area. There is also a fun sledding hill. Our home is approximately 15 miles from Northstar resort as well as proximate to Squaw, Alpine, Sugar Bowl and Boreal. Snowshoeing right out the backdoor is our dog's choice activity!

Part of the town of Truckee, our home is a short drive to historic downtown complete with restaurants and shopping as well as summer concert series.

Our comfortable cabin is the perfect center from which to explore it all!

About Erin Robbins

A few years ago our family experienced a surprising bump on our life path when our then 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is a common, non-contagious autoimmune disease where the body confuses the hair follicle as a foreign substance (like a germ), attacks it and causes hair loss. Alopecia progresses differently for each individual and can cause patch hair loss all the way to total baldness. As well, hair can regrow at any time only to be lost again. In our daughter's case, she lost all her hair and is a fabulously beautiful, brave, adventurous and BALD 7-yr-old! Though we all went through an adjustment period, we arrived at a place where we all celebrate how unique our daughter's situation is and concluded that being bald would never limit her life possibilities, rather serve as a reminder of how special she is. Everyday our daughter takes risks and shows courage--just walking into a restaurant with every eye following you and every child (often loudly) asking about the girl with no hair, requires this. In the spirit of our daughter's inspiring bravery and confidence, we all began living life and making choices differently. Our recent purchase of this home is one way in which we follow our daughter's example, take risks, and follow a 'no excuses' philosophy to living our dreams and passions. If a 7-yr-old who faces the world bald and so very different can do it, can't we? Can't you?

Join our family in getting out there, creating adventures and trying new things. Tahoe is the best place in the world for it!

If you would like to learn more about alopecia areata and the amazing children and adults whose lives this disease affects, please visit the National Alopecia Areata Foundation's website.

Thank you for sharing our story,

The Robbins Family

Easy fun snow getaway in a well put together home.

We had a wonderful few days at Heidi house for Thanksgiving. We were very pleased that the kitchen was well stocked for cooking and serving needs. The layout feels perfect, main family room and kitchen right onto the deck and outdoor area. The backyard blends into open space between all the houses, so we just played in the snow there every day. Perfect for kids and grandparents too.

Well maintained, clean, cozy, well outfitted with tools, home comforts, shovels etc.

Nice bedding!!

older parents/grandparents might want to stay as to avoid going up n down too much.

Upstairs bed is on the less firm side for those that are particular or have a bad back and need a firmer bed, should sleep downstairs.

Highly recommend Heidi house,

It was all that we hoped for and more!

Thank you

Wonderful little cabin retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time at Heidi House. Every amenity we could need was at our disposal. We come yearly for a sporting event so hope to secure this great find next year. The master bed was comfy and there was ample space for my girls to have their own room and personal space. The only thing I would advise is to buy some new washcloths as there were none downstairs, and make sure all the spiders have packed up and left before visitors arrive but I guess that really is out of their control. Overall, Erin was great to work with and we look forward to our visit next year.

For families: exactly what you need (& you won't get stuck paying for things you don't need)

  • 5 of 5

The place is just about perfect. This was a summer trip. The layout is ideal for a pair of families. The kitchen is open to the living room & dining area which makes them feel bigger. It also means that the cooks aren't cutoff from the rest of the family. The view from the deck is lovely & peaceful (great spot for coffee in the am!). The kids LOVED hanging out in the loft. We had 2 in our party with balky backs. Despite that, the mattresses were great and no one woke up stiff. We used the house as a jumping off point for: a trip to Kings Beach, Donner Lake, hikes at Squaw Valley, swimming at the TD pool, & a bike ride along the Truckee River.

3 observations for families to consider: 1) the steps inside are a bit steep (could be an issue for toddlers or grandparents - but with 2 bedrooms & a bathroom on the first floor, the stairs can be avoided), 2) the safety rails in the loft are a bit far apart, & 3) the water pressure in the upstairs shower wasn't great.

Having said that, I still give 5 stars because the place is exactly as advertised/pictured. I would absolutely look to stay here again on any visit to the North Shore. It is perfect for one family or 2.

Lovely, well appointed, cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at the this cabin last weekend. It was immaculately clean, well decorated, had good quality cotton linens and comfy beds. We enjoyed building puzzles and playing games. The skiing at Sugarbowl was beautiful and the town of Truckee fun to poke around in. Erin was wonderful to work with and we can't wait to go back and stay again. Thank you to the Robbins family!!

Winter wonderland

  • 4 of 5

After years of little snow in the area we were blessed to have booked this darling house months prior and it be covered in snow. The fireplace was great to relax and sit next to and the kitchen supported our 2 families well. The kids loved playing in the snow right outside the door and the location was just great for us. The owners were great about reaching out during the snow storm to be sure we had everything covered. Great place for 2 families...and even our dog loved it too.

Affordable, cute & great location

  • 5 of 5

The location was perfect for us, the neighborhood was quiet, and the house had everything we could have needed. We were traveling with our dog and Erin made some great suggestions for dog friendly hikes. We never did get the microwave to work as it should, but the button for beverage served our needs. The house was spotless clean, and the bed in the upstairs bedroom was soooo comfortable. In the evening we would sit out on the back deck and enjoy the mountain air and the smell of the pines. We felt right at home and could have stayed forever.
