About Jane Harrison

We're an outdoor family whose idea of a fun vacation usually involves activities in or around water, woods, and trails. This place gets us where we can have all that, plus the amenities of a charming small town and the solace of the mountains.

Why Jane Harrison chose Northwest High Country

There's no better place to enjoy the Georgia Mountains than in our country log cabin where you're away from it all, but close to what matters.

What makes this cabin unique

When we're relaxing at the cabin, we like to pick up a summer novel to read on the front porch swing or warm up in winter by the fireplace gas logs. We like to feed the fish, too, and thrill at the huge lunkers who come up with mouths wide open. In the evenings, we relax on the porch rockers while the bulldogs croon on the pond. We enjoy watching wild turkeys peck and deer graze the grassy yard. The field awaits our soccer ball or your football or dinner on the ground! Sometimes we get competitive with a game of corn hole...but try to keep it fun and relaxing!

Perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

This home was everything we hoped for! Nestled away from everything but close enough to get to stores easily in case you needed something. If you are looking for a place where you don't hear barking dogs or constant traffic, where really all you hear is nature at its quietest and most pure sound...look no farther! We would come back here in a heartbeat!!

Peaceful, secluded cabin (with lots of little issues)

  • 3 of 5

This cabin's location is the definition of seclusion & privacy. There are no neighbors in sight. The scenery around the cabin is gorgeous. We encountered many wildlife during our stay (rabbits, turkey, deer, a mama bear & 3 cubs). My kids & dogs enjoyed all the open space to run around. The pond was a hit. The cabin has a nice layout & the rooms are spacious. We ran into several issues during our stay though. We were there for a total of 8 nights. As soon as we walked in, we noticed all the ceiling fan blades were crooked & bent. We had to fix them. The ceiling fan in the twin loft bedroom actually didn't work, it would spin a few times then stop. The fan in the full bedroom upstairs shook so bad it would hit the ceiling. The twin loft bedroom had a window AC & a portable fan, which kept the room nice & cool at night. The cabin was a little dirtier than we expected. The air vent in the living room was black. In some of the corners there were dead bugs & dust. Behind the master bedroom dresser there were a lot of dead bugs. The upstairs full bed sits on 2 rugs that were stained. That bed was very uncomfortable and barely fit 2 adults. The upstairs bath has no shower. The warning about the stairs being steep & uneven are accurate. It made getting up & down the stairs difficult. We tried to grill 1 night & realized we had barely any propane in the tank. We e-mailed Jane & she was quick to bring us a full tank (she even brought us some Peaches, which were delicious). We had to wash all the dishes prior to using them & a lot of the cabinets were full of food from other guests. The toaster was a 4-slot toaster, but only 2 sides worked correctly. The kitchen does come equipped w/ everything you will need to prepare meals (no dishwasher). The downstairs DVD player was broken. Our biggest concern was on day 6 when we went to do laundry, the washer stopped working. We e-mailed Jane & she said the repair man would come out the next day, he never showed. That was a Wednesday & we were set to leave Friday. We touched base w/ Jane again on Thursday and had no luck getting it fixed. So what should have been us enjoying our last day in Ellijay, was spent traveling 50 MILES roundtrip to a laundry mat to do laundry. Also, the cabin is several miles from the main highway and the last part leading to the cabin is a very bumpy and rocky gravel road. So be careful and go slow. Even with the many issues we encountered, we enjoyed our vacation. Ellijay is beautiful!

Owner's Response: The 1/2 mile mostly flat gravel road was smoothed and resurfaced after this guest left. It is easily traveled in any vehicle. The spare propane tank at the cabin was full. Guest apparently did not check it. I took an extra. The washing machine was repaired. Tech said guest overloaded it, causing a part to break. The DVD player has been replaced. There is also a DVD player on the upstairs TV. The cabin has been thoroughly cleaned---even under the heavy dresser. Guest apparently inspected every nook and cranny and reported every imperfection.

Most relaxing vacation I've had in many years!

  • 4 of 5

Loved the location, convenient to town if you would like to leave the property, but I preferred to stay at the cabin! I did go in for a few supplies for a couple of hours, then back to he peace and quiet. Enjoyed fishing in the pond, seeing the deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and many songbirds. It rained some each day and was very relaxing on the porch watching the rain and storms roll thru. The only down side of my stay was the steep narrow stairs and I had difficulty getting comfortable in the beds upstairs. Those were a bit rough for senior citizens but the beauty of the place overcomes those things. I would have loved to have seen some information on the cabin history. Overall beautiful and relaxing! Thanks for the wonderful week Jane.

Quiet, Peacful place to relax and enjoy the wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this secluded cabin. It was fully equipped with everything the two of us needed for the week-long stay.

We could sit outside for hours and hear only the sounds of the breeze rustling the leaves and birds singing. We had rabbits, squirrels and birds constantly feeding in the yard and both deer and turkeys would appear occasionally. We could also see fish in the pond and we caught a few small ones, even though the rain had the pond water a little muddy..

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our second anniversary and it was the perfect getaway! We are both used to vacationing at the beach and wanted to try somewhere different - we couldn't have asked for a better trip. He enjoyed fishing while I enjoyed reading in the rocking chairs or swing on the porch. Lots of bream and bass to catch - just have to get them to bite! The cornhole boards and horseshoes were nice to play in the evenings too. We also enjoyed dinner at River Street Tavern and walking around to the several antique shops.

Jane was great and very fast at emailing back before and during our stay. Thank you, Jane!

We have already recommended this cabin to family and friends, and hope to return again ourselves!
