Overview

About the property

Cottage with awesome beach, 6+ bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (sleeps up to 18)

Our cottage is a 5,500 sq. ft., 6+ bedroom plus an additional loft that sleeps 6+, with 4 bathrooms, and is very well maintained with a spacious PRIVATE sandy beach frontage on Crystal Lake for your exclusive (not shared with others) use.

The cottage is clean and very spacious, sleeps 18 comfortably, has plenty of parking and room to spread out and enjoy your vacation. With 6 bedrooms and the loft, you can enjoy your vacation as a family, but also have that quiet time when they have finally driven you crazy! You are definitely not squeezed in together, as there are three different levels to this home. The first level includes the main living area, complete with kitchen (please note: dining table does not seat 18 :)), living area, dining, laundry room, as well as three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms is the very private master suite, which includes its own bathroom with walk in shower. Off the main living area, there is a large deck for dining, having a drink or simply enjoying views of the lake.

The second level consists of three additional bedrooms, two of which have a queen bed in each, another with a trundle (two twins) and couch, and fantastic view of Crystal Lake. This level also has a separate kitchen for added capacity and a bathroom with walk in shower.

The upper level includes a loft above the upper garage which is the perfect hideaway for the kids or those who seek privacy, and includes two bunk beds (queen bottom/twin top), a queen bed, its own bathroom, and living area w/large 50' LED TV. The garage below it also has a ping pong table and corn hole for the family tournaments or rainy day events.

The beach and amenities - a large sandy beach area offers plenty of room to play and enjoy the water. A boat hoist (2500 lb capacity) and two wave runner hoists are provided. Firewood is also provided for the fire pit at no cost. Three kayaks are also provided for your enjoyment as are games such as corn hole, basketball hoop, and ping pong.

The cottage is located on the north/northwest side of Crystal Lake and faces almost due south, therefore, when it is hot out, the prevailing winds are generally present to help keep you cool. Our property is less than one mile to the beginning of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You can spend your entire week seeking out new and isolated beaches, trails, lakes, and dunes, all along the way to the popular dune climb attraction which is about a 20 minute drive from the cottage. Frankfort and Beulah are each about a 10 minute drive from the cottage as well. You will not run out of sites to see, activities, or things to do when visiting Crystal Lake and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

We realize this is your vacation and we want to do everything possible so that you will enjoy it, so, please email us or call us with any further questions or interest. Additional notes: Our home is considered our cottage, and, a very well appointed cottage. It does now have air conditioning in 95% of the home (as of fall 2017).

However, it does not have a whole house generator in the rare instance a storm takes out the local utilities (caveat for those who cannot endure in case of this very rare possibility). The home also has 4 fridges. The cottage rents Sunday through Sunday.

About Tim Dyer

Tim and Michele have three daughters, Lyndsey, Elle and Bri, and enjoy heading to Crystal Lake as much as feasibly possible.

Tim Dyer purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Tim Dyer chose Northwest

We purchased our first cottage on Crystal Lake in 2001 after several years of vacationing in the area and upgraded to "Grande" in 2012. We previously have had a home in the Torch Lake area, but enjoy all the activities and beauty of the area in and around Crystal Lake and feel there is so much more to offer on this side of Traverse City. One week typically is not enough time to see it all, but, hopefully enough time to recharge and enjoy quality family time.

What makes this cottage unique

Crystal Lake and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area was voted one of Americas best destinations by Good Morning America several years ago. With many families returning year after year, it alone makes it a testament to the beauty of the area.

Map

Located on the Northwest Shore of Crystal Lake amongst other very nice homes, and located about 2 miles from Point Betsie, one mile from the start of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore, and about 10 minute drive from either Frankfort or Beulah.

Prefect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

WOW! The home is huge prefect for a large family to make lifetime memories. The kitchen, dining and the large living room with floor to ceiling living room windows was the heart of our stay, we cooked while enjoying the conversations , we laughed, we shared stories and played games. There is nothing more beautiful than sitting on the beach watching our grandchildren play in the water, hunt shells and build sand castles. The front porch was so enjoyable to have morning coffee or a cold evening drink. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large and comfortable well spaced out so that you couldn't hear house or street noise. As I write this review it's clear to me there is no way to capture how great this home is without getting wordy. The only draw back I can see is that the stairs may be difficult for some who have trouble climbing stairs. Finally, Tim our host was so accommodating and ready to answer all my questions he is really a great host. We'll be back next year if all goes well. Jose

Great for Large Gathering

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house the week of July 9, 2017. There were 17 of us -- three families that have vacationed together multiple times. This time we had all the adult children and some significant others. The house is billed as three levels, but there are actually more i.e, when entering the house, the kitchen and very large living room are on the same level. You go up about 6-8 steps to get to two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry, then up another 6 or so stairs to the master bedroom. All this is considered the first level. The second level does have three bedrooms on one level, two of which are very large with huge beautiful windows. The layout of the house allows great views from most rooms and plenty of room to spread. We never felt crowded. The down side, however, is that the house is not good for those with mobility problems. I was having knee problems and stayed on the lowest level, but still had to tackle stairs to get into the house and to the first bedroom level.

The top "level" of the house is actually a separate building with several beds, kitchen and living room area. It is attached to a very large garage with a ping pong table. Great area for teens or young adults. You can park several cars up hear (drive up hill around back) or in the driveway/garage in the front of the house.

The beach is great with table/umbrella on a wooden platform and plastic Adirondack chairs for sitting at the water's edge or for reading a book. We loved the fire pit. The dock is great, with small seating area and ladder at the end. There's a small boat lift, but not big enough for pontoon boat we rented. A bouy to dock larger boats would be a good addition. The road does run between the house and the beach. This surprised me when I arrived, but not a big deal to cross and doesn't interfere with view.

The town of Franklin is a few miles away. Quaint town with shops and restaurants and next to lighthouse and beach area on lake Michigan. We ate at Storm Cloud brewery, Fusion Asian restaurant, enjoyed two popular ice cream shops. The town of Beulah sits on the other end of the lake. It's smaller, but also quaint. It has a nature trail that's at least 3 miles long for walk/jog/biking. A few of the young adults had a fun outing at relatively near casino. Owner Tim is great to deal with!

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The Crystal Lake Getaway Grande is truly "grande" !!! Our family of 13, including 5 grandchildren, enjoyed a perfect week here. The house accommodated us comfortably, with each family having their own space. The family room was large enough for all of us to gather together. The house was very clean and well maintained, with many nice amenities. We had our own private beach and Crystal Lake lives up to it's name, crystal clear and beautiful. We very much appreciated the extras provided by the owner, including kayaks, fire pit w/plenty of wood, chairs, ping pong table, etc., which we all enjoyed. The photos are accurate. The property is well located to enjoy close activities such as Sleeping Bear Dunes, Betsie Light House, numerous hikes, Traverse City, and much more. The owners were very responsive and a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend the Crystal Lake Grande !!

Phil and Barbara

  • 5 of 5

This vacation home worked out great for our family (4 children and spouses and 9 grand children). The amount of bedrooms worked perfectly with having 5 families staying together. The extra large family room was great for gathering together with plenty of room for all the small children and adults to enjoy family time. There are only certain rooms with air conditioning but with the cooler evenings this was not a problem. The large front porch was perfect for relaxing and had great views of the lake. The beach had lots of room, plenty of sand and the added bonus of a fire pit with plenty of wood. The owner made many items available for our use (kayaks, tubes, chairs, etc.). The area also worked out well for golfing, wine tasting and eating out. The near by town of Frankfort was fun to visit. Overall a large and well appointed house with great beach and lake access and in an area with lots to do and see. Would definitely recommend this vacation home.

This was a perfect house for our family of 14, including young grandchildren. There was plenty of space, very clean. A great kitchen and a large family room with comfortable furniture. There is a nice big deck and a wonderful clean private beach. The photos are accurate. We have absolutely no complaints and can't wait to go back!

Amazing Place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (kids aged 9 and 11) enjoyed an INCREDIBLE weeks vacation at this rental in August! The listing description of the rental was accurate, and the photos show how beautiful and spacious this house is. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owners are very friendly and had great information to share about the area/location. We would totally recommend this property to friends and family. We'd LOVE to go back!! The house was very large in accommodating our small group; could easily have had a few more families and still be very comfortable, as it is so spacious. The views are incredible, the beach is very clean, and they provide beach chairs as well as kayaks that the kids used. We took many day trips to Frankfort, Beulah, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Empire, Leelanau, and The Cherry Bowl Drive-In is a short drive away. This property is beautiful and we so appreciate that we were able to rent from such great owners! Thanks for a WONDERFUL vacation!!
