CHARMING TRANQUIL VILLA SET IN THE EXCLUSIVE ARCENO ESTATE, CHIANTI

Click right on the first photo to see our video!

In the beautiful hills of Chianti lies the Arceno Estate a vast private vineyard and Nature Reserve, where the apartment, ‘Arco al Poggio’ is found, set over three floors within a renovated traditional Tuscan ‘casale’ or farmhouse.

‘Arco al Poggio’ is part of ‘Arceno Rentals Club’ which provides our guests with an inclusive quality service before and throughout their stay. From the initial booking process to the end of their vacation ‘Arceno Rentals Club’ are there for their guests. Inclusively we begin with a ‘Welcome basket’ of quality local foods and wines for the first weekend. We also supply house wine and bar of branded spirits and Italian liqueurs for the duration of their stay. Other inclusive services are linen change and stocking consumables like coffee capsules, dishwasher tablets, charcoal etc.

To make our guests vacation ‘heavenly’ we also inclusively provide a Five Star Concierge Service to assist with anything from restaurant reservations, excursions to wineries, tour guides and directions, car rental with chauffeur, if required, child minding and more. We also assist should a problem arise, allowing our guests to relax and enjoy their vacation, safe in the knowledge they will be well looked after.

The apartment is exclusive and private having two comfortable double bedrooms with ceiling fans and two bathrooms. Traditionally Tuscan with modern conveniences, internet, WiFi, T.V, DVD player and iPod dock. It also has a covered patio with beautiful views southward over the Chianti countryside. Beautifully furnished to high standards the apartment accommodates four persons comfortably for a unique, stylish experience, a real 'home from home'.

The entrance is at ground level through a gateway from a secluded private garden. Left of the gate is an old oven and opposite, the stairs lead to a private covered patio, 'the loggia'. From the loggia the apartment is accessed directly into a spacious living area with fireplace and dining for eight people. The kitchen itself is well appointed for keen or professional cooks.

At one end the ‘guest’ bedroom and bathroom with shower, opposite, a stairway leads to the spacious and romantic master bedroom with beautiful views over the vineyards and the village of San Gusmè. A bathroom with a large bathtub and shower serves the master bedroom. Guests also have the use of a tranquil private swimming pool.

The estate of Arceno covers 1000 hectares of forest, vineyards, olive groves, cypress avenues, dotted with traditional farmhouses ‘the Casali’, many of which have been restored. The Villa of the estate dates from the 16th century with its own chapel, romantic park and lake.

‘Arco al Poggio’ was a working ‘Casale’, but now restored with modern conveniences, it welcomes guests who may relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Chianti countryside.

From ‘Arco al Poggio’ are views towards the famous Crete, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Monte Amiata. At the rear, the medieval village of San Gusmè a short fifteen minute walk through the vines. The rewards a drink at a village café and the view towards Siena and its towers.

The estate is served by ‘strade bianche’, (white roads) which are unpaved. Although some are public, these roads are quiet, allowing walking, cycling and jogging at ease. The region is filled with history, art, food and wine. Siena with its famous ‘Palio’ an exciting medieval horse race is only fifteen minutes away. Italy’s excellent road network allows easy day trips to Florence, San Giminiano, Le Crete, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona, Arezzo and more!

Famous for food and wine there are many places to enjoy the bounty of Chianti and Tuscany. Eat and drink or take lessons and cook like a true Tuscan! The more active may golf, horse ride or take a swim and relax at one of the nearby thermal spas. Perhaps take a trip to the seaside?

Rammed with history and art, an almost endless list of galleries, exhibitions, museums, churches, palaces and other unique places wait to be discovered.

About Anna Crawford

Anna and James Ross Crawford, an Anglo-Italian couple who enjoy time between London, Milan and Tuscany. We have a busy life but also love to relax in the exclusive Villa D'Arceno Estate where we find tranquility after the buzz of the big cities. We love art, music, good food and even better wine.

Having many years of experience renting the property 'Arco al Poggio' as a Luxury Vacation Rental business, Anna and James Ross teamed up with Siena born, Stefano Finetti an experienced manager to found 'Arceno Rentals Club'. This new venture in Luxury Vacation Rentals brings the Founders' experience, passion and knowledge of the area to other exclusive properties on the prestigious Villa D'Arceno Estate.

Anna Crawford purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Anna Crawford chose Castelnuovo Berardenga

Anna and James Ross have enjoyed 'Arco al Poggio' since 2004. It was love at first sight and the place has become our magic retreat and we love to share this with our Guests. Set within a 'Casale' an old Tuscan villa farmhouse, its location within a private estate makes it very tranquil and a great place for spotting wildlife from the pool!

Arco al Poggio is set within the private and exclusive Villa D'Arceno Estate in an outstanding location with spectacular views over the vyneyards of the estate. The apartment is one of the properties of the Casale Il Poggio, surrounded by its private maintained garden offering total privacy and a real opportunity to commune with nature, while enjoying the extra services and a Five Star Concierge provided by 'Arceno Rentals Club'.

What makes this apartment unique

Arceno is a private estate where history, beautiful landscapes, vineyards, villas, flora and fauna make it unique in Tuscany. Our property benefits from it, and living here is a dream due to the beauty and harmony of the place.

The complimentary Five Star Concierge service is provided before and throughout your stay. The Concierge can procure visits, excursions, car rental, with or without chauffeur, cooking lessons, private chef or housekeeper, and many other services. (Extra charges will apply.)

Our 'FULLY INCLUSIVE' weekly RATES provide a generous 'WELCOME BASKET' of quality food & wines from local suppliers, enough for the first weekend. A continuous supply of FREE quality Arceno Rentals Club HOUSE WINE throughout stay. A FREE BAR of branded spirits and Italian liqueurs is also provided to be enjoyed during your stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Entering the Villa Arceno estate, you are immediately enveloped in a beautiful landscape of cypress lined hills, olive groves, vineyards and stone farmhouses, creating a perfect Tuscan scene. Il Poggio comes with a pretty garden, swimmng pool, and is elevated across two upper floors, giving outstanding views of the nearby village and the estate. The property is furnished to an excellent standard and offers every convenience for your stay. The large, private terrace is the most perfect setting to enjoy every meal and was saturated with almond blossom over Easter. Il Poggio is perfectly located to enjoy the amenities of nearby Castelnuovo Beradenga, which offers a good choice of local osterias and a local winery as well as a short drive to the historic towns Sienna and Florence, all manageable within a day. A perfect to relax and soak up the Italian sunshine, robust red wines and fabulous restaurants.

Beautiful property and a great location in the heart of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Arco Al Poggio at the start of September 2017 and could not have hoped for a better villa. Arco Al Poggio is set in the beautiful grounds of Arceno, surrounded by vineyards. The exact location of the property is peaceful and the villa itself is set in a larger property containing two other small homes, so it is very private.

Nearby, the small towns of San Gusme and Castelnuovo Berardenga are a short drive away. Both have several fantastic restaurants and the latter has a great supermarket to buy essential supplies. Siena, Montepulciano and Florence are easily accessible

As for the property itself, we would definitely recommend it and stay again in the future. It's the little touches that make the holiday one to remember.

- Anna and Gaia provide a seamless experience from start to finish with Gaia only a call away to offer concierge services / advice before and during your stay.

- A fantastic welcome food hamper is provided along with wine and drinks trolley

- The villa is spotless throughout (and cleaned during your stay - twice in a 10 day holiday for us)

- Every amenity you could possibly want in a self catering villa is provided from a wide variety of kitchen equipment, DVDs, coffee machine, BBQ, Books etc

- The pool area is well maintained and quiet

My wife and I normally stay in hotels on holiday but after experiencing the flexibility of a self catering villa of this quality we are sold for future holidays and would finish by saying that Arco Al Poggio has set the bar high!

Wonderful Tuscan Countryside Escape

  • 5 of 5

If you wish to relax in the hypnotic beauty of the Tuscan countryside (in the middle of a 1000 hectare vineyard), then this is a great option.

This villa is a historic building that has been sensitively restored and fitted out to a very high standard.

Tip: going with the club option is a good bet, as you'll have everything you need (in fridge, wines, drinks cabinet, for bbq) already in situe when you arrive (high quality local produce)..... and the mid-week clean + sheet change is a blessing.

Fabulois, charming, everything you need is supplied.

  • 5 of 5

All the previous reviews sum it up. An absolute gem - everything you need or think you'll need is supplied from the gorgeous basket of food that was there on arrival through to all the Aceno estate wine. Would highly recommend this place. You definitely need a car. The local village has lovely restaurants, cafe, ATM. The swimming was well used and full laundry facilities. Watch out for the insects and mosquitoes - take insect repellent especially if you sit outside at night.
