About Rob Hunter
Owners: Rob & Annette Hunter (managers); Joel & Leah Gates Rob & Annette met in high school and have been together ever since. They have 3 married children and have been blessed with 8 grandchildren. Joel and Leah also met in high school and have two beautiful teenage girls. We all love Mazatlan! Annette and Rob were born and raised in Los Angeles but have lived the past 25+ years in the Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Joel and Leah are native Coloradoans and also live in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We have been friends for many years. Rob, Annette & family vacationed in Mazatlan in 1997 for the first time. We absolutely loved the beauty and the people and have been returning each year ever since. We recently bought an additional condo just north of Islas Del Sol and where we generally spend 4 months a year. Joel and Leah spend a month in Mazatlan and stay at the Islas Condo when they're in town. We love people and if the timing works out, we would love to meet you and introduce the city to you!
Rob Hunter purchased this Condo in 2000
Why Rob Hunter chose El Cid
This property is about 40 years old, it is simple, well-maintained, warm, friendly staff and has everything you need to live comfortably, including maid service! We think it's the nicest location for just hanging and walking everywhere easily. We now look down on the pools and grounds of "The Local", the brand-new hotel next door. A sweet addition to the already nice view.
What makes this Condo unique
We love the sunsets, long walks on the beach north or south and the nearby and onsite restaurants close by and on the beach. You'll be welcomed and made to feel at home at Joe's Oyster Bar, Chili's Pepper, El Capitano and many other beachfront hangouts. Taxi and bus transportation is directly in front of the condo. The 24/7 front desk is very helpful and can assist you with suggestions/reservations, etc.

Great place on the beach!
Amazing view! Sleeping to the sounds of crashing surf is fabulous. Master bed was great. Apparently the other beds are not that comfy. A better kitchen would have put it over the top.
Great to have you! Thanks for your review. We are working on making the beds comfier. It's hard in Mexico because the mattresses are inherently very hard. We bring 3" mattresses toppers from the states to make them like the Master Suite bed that is indeed the comfiest. We remodeled much of the condo last year but have not got to the kitchen yet, you are right it needs it and we have planes for doing that soon. All new tile going on the upstairs floor to match the lower floor soon too. We should have it all done by the next time you come.

It was very comfortable and relaxing with amazing views of the ocean. The rooms were clean and spacious. Location was very convenient and the staff friendly and helpful.
Thanks so much for your review and your kind words. We appreciate you staying with us and welcome the next time we may once again be your host.
Blessings to you,
rob and annette
Overall we had a nice stay. It is a 2 story 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo with 1 king bed and 1 f/q bed, and 2 futons. The views are expectacular, with it being a corner unit. Fully equipped kitchen, eventhough we didn't use. The building is older, it has a small pool and restaurant that has good breakfast. The waves were strong and hitting the retainer wall during our stay, thanks in part to Hurricane Franklin. Unit 801 is highly recommended for a family of 6.
I would definitely stay there again!!
The condo was clean and some of the staff were very friendly. We had a problem with the AC on our first days but the owner and his wife went above and beyond to fix it for us and make us feel comfortable. Thanks Rob and Annette we really appreciate everything you guys did. But my favorite part about this condo were the amazing views from every room 😍 I wanted to stay longer! The restaurant also has good food for a good price. I will definitely recommend this place to friends and family
We loved our stay right on the beach! The condo is fantastic, the views are wonderful, and the sound of the waves breaking on the sand is something awesome to fall asleep to. The location of the condo right on the beach is of course fantastic but also it's location to places in Mazatlan is great! The internet worked very fast, the pool is heated, and the 3 flat screen tvs in the condo were nice! We all enjoyed our wonderful stay!
Older condo, great views, priced right.
We stayed at Islas del Sol #801 for 3 nights. The view of the ocean is wonderful. Unfortunately the condo does not have an outdoor patio so you need to enjoy the view through the large windows. There is big construction project next door so for now much of the view looks out on to that, but the construction noise wasn't too bad. This is an older condo building so the condos and grounds reflect this. The pool area is small so if it's a busy time of year it might feel crowded. When we were there it wasn't too bad. Lots of families. There really isn't a beach in front, even at low tide. The closest beach looks like the one in front of El Cid. The beds are comfortable. The master bedroom air conditioner was challenged to keep the room cool but there is a ceiling fan. The rest of the air conditioning units worked very well. Although we didn't cook, it did seem that the kitchen was pretty well equipped. The wifi in the unit worked well as did the wifi in the lobby. The condo was very clean. The staff was friendly. I'd skip ordering snacks/drinks from the restaurant and instead bring your own. There is an OXO right across the street for snacks and beverages. Lots of families brought down their own ice chests to the pool area with drinks and snacks...a great idea. If you are looking for a no frills beach front condo, this is definitely a good value.
Mazatlan is a 'down home' Mexican resort...a great value. Restaurants and attractions are very reasonably priced and the service everywhere is great. The city has a good economy based on many industries beside tourism, in fact tourism is makes up only a small percentage of the economy. The result is you feel a part of real Mexico while you are there. The beaches are wonderful and plenty...reminding me of the coast of Southern California. The old historic center of town is a fascinating step back into old Mexico with great restaurants, music, shops, theater, art, and much more. Getting around in taxi's, palmonia's, or buses is fast and easy. Or you can just walk to everything in the Golden Zone and hang out there...there is more 2.5 miles of unobstructed coastline to walk and collect shells on in the Golden Zone alone. The surf is nice and good for body or board surfing. The weather from November to May is moderate and warm for northerners.
