About Carol Kaurish

I (Carol) grew up in this home. The home was built in 1954. My family farmed the land and the property is still owned by myself and two brothers. We will be glad to share with you stories about growing up in the area in the late 1940's to the present. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. The neighbors are friendly and most are my friends who grew up with me. I live on a farm which is located on Limestone Drive with my husband. We are both retired but we enjoy doing lots of volunteering. Also, we have 5 wonderful grandchildren which live nearby and 1 wonderful grandchild which lives in Hi. My husband grew up in Cold Springs, Ky. across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Carol Kaurish purchased this house in 1954

Why Carol Kaurish chose Abingdon

I have decorated the house to reflect the 1950's and 1960's. This home looks like Grandma's and is very comfortable. It is a home where children can roam inside and outside with very nice neighbors. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the beautiful mountains. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. Also, take a walk whenever, lots of room to wander and children to play. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whoever travels with you. Three acre of land to roam about.

What makes this house unique

Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Applachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different. The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam.

Cozy, clean home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in September staying here with our 3 kids. There was plenty of room for all of us and we were only 2 quiet country miles from the Alvarado station of the Creeper Trail. The home was fully equipped and very clean. Carol was so welcoming! We hope to be back again next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for that wonderful review. I am so glad that you all liked the country and the house. Thank you for taking such good care of the house and leaving it so clean. I will look forward to you returning with your family. Also, thanks for mentioning the Alvarado Station. This was a working post office when I was growing up. The mail traveled by the Creeper Train. There were so few houses back then that your mail, just said Rt. 1 Alvarado, V.A. The mail man knew everyone.

Weekend with the family

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family had a really great time. The hosts were excellent and the house was the cleanest rental I've ever stayed in. My kids and grand kids loved the place and were able to play in the yard safely. The house is about a 20 minute drive from Damascus and the Creeper trail but it's worth it. We will try to rent this house again when we go back to the area.

Quiet family get-away between Abingdon and Damascus/Creeper Trail.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this house very much! Carol went out of her way to help us feel welcomed and at home. The house is beautiful, well stocked, very comfortable, and super quiet. It's in a great location for a get-away and is located between Abingdon and Damascus/Creeper Trail. We rode the Creeper Trail during the day and had dinner in Abingdon-- the best of both places! We are looking forward to staying here again and I've already told 3 friends about it!

Owner's Response: Thank you Flavia. You all were so wonderful to work with, so friendly and kind. I will be happy to have you all to come and stay with me again any time. Also, thank you for telling your friends about the vacation rental house. The people who live in that neighborhood were living there when I grew up and they have always been very quite, friendly, and super nice.

Lovely and CLEAN!

  • 5 of 5

My 2 sisters, a friend and I stayed at Carol's house for a long weekend during Abingdon's Highlands Arts Festival and had a great time. The house is fully stocked with kitchen ware, fluffy towels/washcloths and good beds/mattresses. It was very homey and cosy and most importantly, CLEAN. Each of us had our own bedroom - one is in the basement - and the living room and kitchen/dining area was perfect for relaxing. We didn't cook any but made coffee/tea, etc. and warmed up some things in the microwave but the kitchen was well-stocked.

The house is out of town just a few miles but the country out that way is beautiful. The only caution I have is to be mindful that it IS in the mountains and the road the house is on is a typical narrow winding road.

Carol and Fred are the nicest people and will make you feel right at home!

Owner's Response: Lori, Thank you for that wonderful review. When you all checked out, we could not even tell you all had stayed there because you left the house so clean and tidy. Also, you all were so friendly and easy to talk with and be around. After traveling for 45 years with my job, I learned a lot about the motel industry. I wanted my vacation house to be clean and have good mattresses, clean towels, washcloths, and linens. Also, for those who do cook, I wanted the house to be well stocked with plenty of items for cooking. Our house is in the country. The countryside is very beautiful and has a very quite neighborhood. I grew up with most of the people who live there. The road is a typical southwestern Virginia road. Of course, being from there, I never pay any attention to the road. I can travel the road in just a few minutes. We have some people who come every year and then we have some who will come several times a year. They have also learned the road and hopefully this year we will see improvements from our Highway Department. If you or your friends come back to visit and I hope you all will because we love to have people like you all stay with us, you will have mastered to road by then. Again than you for staying with us. Owner's Response: Thank you Sajiv for this wonderful review. We enjoyed meeting you, your family, and your friends (especially the children--they were just wonderful and so well behaved). We hope you all will tell all your friends about us and come back to see us any time. Next time, hopefully things will be better for us and we will be able to spend more time with you all enjoying your wonderful children. Also, we are always doing things to improve our place. The other day we planted 15 to 20 new rose bushes. We also have more things we want to do so everyone will have more fun. Fred & Carol Kaurish

Quiet Country Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time here. Home has a great country feel, is in a peaceful, quiet area and is very close to the Virginia Creeper Trail and Abingdon Vineyard and Winery. Lots of things to do in the area and great restaurants. Mrs. Carol and Mr. Fred are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Thanks for sharing your home.

Owner's Response: Thank you Chantel. You all were so good to us and took wonderful care of our vacation home. We welcome you to come back again any time. Also, thanks again for your husband and children helping Fred with the pool table. I had remembered that you asked about us having a pool table and after having some damage, I knew I just needed to buy a new one. I was running out of time and when it arrived I had no idea it would be so heavy to move. You will never know how much I appreciated their help. Also, I enjoyed you and the girls because I always know it is the women who keep the house looking nice when they leave. Hope you all have a wonderful summer and come back whenever you take a notion.
