About Carol Kaurish

I (Carol) grew up in this home. The home was built in 1954. My family farmed the land and the property is still owned by myself and two brothers. We will be glad to share with you stories about growing up in the area in the late 1940's to the present. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. The neighbors are friendly and most are my friends who grew up with me. I live on a farm which is located on Limestone Drive with my husband. We are both retired but we enjoy doing lots of volunteering. Also, we have 5 wonderful grandchildren which live nearby and 1 wonderful grandchild which lives in Hi. My husband grew up in Cold Springs, Ky. across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Carol Kaurish purchased this house in 1954

Why Carol Kaurish chose Blue Ridge Highlands

I have decorated the house to reflect the 1950's and 1960's. This home looks like Grandma's and is very comfortable. It is a home where children can roam inside and outside with very nice neighbors. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the beautiful mountains. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. Also, take a walk whenever, lots of room to wander and children to play. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whoever travels with you.

What makes this house unique

Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Applachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different. The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam.

Our group of 8 friends were looking for a place to stay close the The Channels, a hike out of Meadowview VA,

and we also loved that it was close to the Creeper Trail, which we have ridden several times.

The house was clean and comfortable, and certainly affordable for our party.

Though we didn't go into Abingdon this time, that town has a lot to offer, for others who may consider staying here.

Great house for family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long weekend biking the creeper trail, and this house was just perfect! So great that we decided to stay in for meals instead of going out! Huge yard and outdoor games/ tables/ chairs/ fire pit were perfect for the kids! House was comfortable, super clean, and fully stocked with everything we needed! Great for a large crowd or family. Highly recommend!

Nascar Racing, festivals, flea markets, and several small towns nearby with lots of history. Lots of beautiful mountains with trails. Our most famous is the Applachian Trail plus Creeper Trail. (Bike riding or walking) Saltville, Va. is about a 30 minute drive with a beautiful museum. Saltville is also famous for supplying salt for the troops during the Revolutionary War. Also, Abingdon has also many artifacts about the war. We are also about 30 miles from Hungary Mother Park and Bristol Caverns. We have enough of natural beautiful surroundings for anyone to spend at least a week to just see a few. Also, we have Backbone Rock which you can drive your car through a rock and hike the trails or enjoy a picnic in the Park. We are about 20 to 25 minutes from this natural wonder. If you go about 20 more miles, you can see where we have had natural Cranberries growing and are still growing in a few places. Another natural wonder is Hidden Valley Lake. This lake sits on top of a mountain. You cannot use any boat with a motor but you can use a paddle boat.
