About Carol Kaurish

I (Carol) grew up in this home. The home was built in 1954. My family farmed the land and the property is still owned by myself and two brothers. We will be glad to share with you stories about growing up in the area in the late 1940's to the present. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. The neighbors are friendly and most are my friends who grew up with me. I live on a farm which is located on Limestone Drive with my husband. We are both retired but we enjoy doing lots of volunteering. Also, we have 5 wonderful grandchildren which live nearby and 1 wonderful grandchild which lives in Hi. My husband grew up in Cold Springs, Ky. across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Carol Kaurish purchased this house in 1954

Why Carol Kaurish chose Blue Ridge Highlands

I have decorated the house to reflect the 1950's and 1960's. This home looks like Grandma's and is very comfortable. It is a home where children can roam inside and outside with very nice neighbors. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the beautiful mountains. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. Also, take a walk whenever, lots of room to wander and children to play. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whoever travels with you.

What makes this house unique

Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Applachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different. The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam.

Owner's Response: Thank you Sajiv for this wonderful review. We enjoyed meeting you, your family, and your friends (especially the children--they were just wonderful and so well behaved). We hope you all will tell all your friends about us and come back to see us any time. Next time, hopefully things will be better for us and we will be able to spend more time with you all enjoying your wonderful children. Also, we are always doing things to improve our place. The other day we planted 15 to 20 new rose bushes. We also have more things we want to do so everyone will have more fun. Fred & Carol Kaurish

Quiet Country Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time here. Home has a great country feel, is in a peaceful, quiet area and is very close to the Virginia Creeper Trail and Abingdon Vineyard and Winery. Lots of things to do in the area and great restaurants. Mrs. Carol and Mr. Fred are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Thanks for sharing your home.

Owner's Response: Thank you Chantel. You all were so good to us and took wonderful care of our vacation home. We welcome you to come back again any time. Also, thanks again for your husband and children helping Fred with the pool table. I had remembered that you asked about us having a pool table and after having some damage, I knew I just needed to buy a new one. I was running out of time and when it arrived I had no idea it would be so heavy to move. You will never know how much I appreciated their help. Also, I enjoyed you and the girls because I always know it is the women who keep the house looking nice when they leave. Hope you all have a wonderful summer and come back whenever you take a notion. Perfect home for sibling get-together

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal place for the eight of us to stay for our sibling get-together. The four bedrooms and two baths suited us perfectly. The home was very clean and the linen closet was filled with huge stacks for towels, etc. The kitchen was well-appointed, the large back deck was a huge "plus" for our meals and conversation times. The main focus of our gathering was biking the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail and it was an easy drive to Damascus to get our rental bikes. Carol has maintained and equipped her childhood home very well to rent out as a vacation home. It was fun for us to "step back in time" and reminisce. Everything we could want or need was there. Thank you, Carol!

Owner's Response: Thank you Mary for that wonderful review. We enjoyed meeting your family. They were so nice and easy to talk with. I am so glad for you all to be able to get together and have fun. Growing up in this house, we had many family get- together, and I really enjoy making other people happy. My Mother and Dad would be very happy to know that I chose to share their home with other people after they have passed away. They taught me many wonderful things but I guess what I remember the most was having guests into our home. Again thanks to you and your family. Carol Kaurish, Owner

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review. I would be glad to have these people to come back and visit any time. They were very respectful of the property and took wonderful care of the house. I hated that we had rain but that was not something I could fix. I was glad I had board games and a DVD that they could use for entertainment. Carol Kaurish, Owner

Owner's Response: Thank you all for the wonderful review. We would love to have you all back any time especially if you bring that sweet and beautiful little Bella. She was such a joy to be with and the great big hug when we left was priceless. We loved to talk with you all. It brought back so many memories of growing up on the farm, my husband's time at Western Kentucky University, and his Kentucky roots. You all were just like home folks to us. Come see us any time. Thanks again, Fred & Carol

The house was just fabulous! Well stocked with plenty of towels, my 3 boys certainly went through a few playing in the creek. All the rooms were decorated so beautifully. The kitchen had everything we needed and was a pleasure to look out the window while drinking coffee watching the kids play in the mornings. Coming from the city, it was so refreshing to sit out and listen to the birds chirping and stare into the rolling hills. I'm pretty sure we hiked every inch of the property many times over and yelled into the hills as they echoed back to us. The house was immaculately clean and plenty of room for our family of 6. The basement was decorated perfect to make it seem very large and bright. We went fishing at alveredo, and walked the creeper trail with 3 boys and a baby with no problems. I am happy to report even though my kids went through every outfit I brought.... twice and about 20 pair of socks each, I am headed home with clean clothes because the washer and dryer work amazing! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to spend a long weekend or more gracious hosts than Carol and her husband. They were wonderful. This trip will hold a special place for our family!!

Owner's Response: Hello Rachael, Thank you for the wonderful review. We really enjoyed meeting you and your family. Your children were just wonderful. They brought back so many memories to me. They reminded me of myself and my two brothers growing up on the farm so many, many, years ago. We were always playing in the creek. I will send you a funny story later on about one time when I was playing in the creek. You all come back any time and be sure to tell all your friends and relatives about our place. We love to have guests like you all to come and visit us. We have really been blessed with many wonderful people the last 5 years staying at the vacation home. Also, thank you so much for taking such good care of the house. Everything was great. I am just so happy that you all could relax, run and play, and enjoy yourself away from it all. Thanks again, Fred & Carol Kaurish Alvarado Vacation Home
