Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom,1 Bath With Queen Size Fold Out. Sleeps 6. Fabulous Views Of Lake.

The cottage on lost lake is cozy, serene, clean, and has all of the amenities of home, but away from the mad rush. Sitting on the deck, and enjoying the 100 ft. Pines and taking in the lake view is the perfect escape from it all. The cottage is on a private road. It is accessible all year round. When you enter the cottage you are welcome by a large kitchen/ dining area, accompanied by a large living room area , all with tongue and groove vaulted ceiling. The cottage was lovingly built by a couple who live on the same lake. There is an immediate sense of serenity, and space. There are 2 bedrooms in the back. One is a double iron wrought bed with lovely oak furniture, many drawers, and large closets. The other has very new and solid bunk beds. In the living room, the couch is also a queen size pull out bed. There is one bath. It is really 2 rooms. The double sinks, and vanity, and washer and dryer are in a room adjoining the bathtub, shower, and camode.

It has a full kitchen, with complete utensils, pots and pans, dishes, spices, and all appliances, (except dish washer)

The deck has a small iron table and chairs to accommodate outdoor dining.

It is a walkout basement, with an adjoining dog kennel so that you can let the dog out in the middle of the night without having to suit up for a walk.

The lot will accommodate parking for a trailor, and a few cars. The entire property is 3 acres. Right off of the road are a number of trails that will lead you through the hiawatha national forest. You can enjoy them by foot, snow mobile, snow shoe, cross country skiing, etc. ... Truly a place for all seasons. We would ask, out of courtesy for the neighbors. That snowmobilers would respect the 15 mile an hr. Speed limit on the private road, and refrain from making noise with the snowmobiles after 10:00.

The cottage is set up with a phone, and internet. There is a tv with dvd player. There is a collection of dvds to chose from, or there are a few places to rent from in town.

About Marguerite Deslippe

My family lives down state in a suburb of Detroit. We look forward to our getaways to Lost Lake, and the Munising area. We also have many wonderful friends that are neighbors there.

Marguerite Deslippe purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Marguerite Deslippe chose Upper Peninsula

My family and I first discovered this area while on camping trips about 20 years ago. We had been to Colorado, Alaska, and several places in Europe, but the Munising Bay, and Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior was just so special and breathtaking to us. Including the benefit that there was no waiting in line at the airport. We switched our cottage hunting location from down state to this area. We loved the cliffs and the water and the ruggedness, and the wild live, and the people that we met here. When we were shown this new cottage, and met the people who had built it and found out that it was a man and wife that were building their own cabin on Lost Lake that was it! This was going to be the place.

What makes this cottage unique

Several things made us fall in love with this cottage. It was not on a major freeway, so no noise from trucks all night long. The place was built with tender loving care by neighbors, and when the boys ran down the lake, they were immediately busy searching for frogs, fishing, just creating their own outdoor entertainment

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for letting us use your cabin the last few days. Our two boys really had fun on the paddle boat and enjoyed meeting all of the friendly dogs around. We did quite a bit the last 4 days. I think our favorite was the Pictured Rocks boat tour and checking out the waterfalls in the area. Thanks again.

Really nice area.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed there during snowmobile season, it’s a little bit of a ride to get to the trails but there was enough snow on the roads that it wasn’t bad. The place was very clean and well stocked with everything needed for cooking meals. Trailer parking was good and room for our sleds. I would stay there again.

Wonderful

Home was clean. Everything was exactly how it said it would be. Views from the deck are wonderful. Home is located in a very nice, secluded area yet is within 10 minutes ten minutes of the Pictured Rocks Lake Shore. Overall wonderful experience.

Escape From the Big City

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I took our three kids to the U.P. for last Fourth of July last year. We had never been to Michigan before and our vacations normally take us to cities where we watch the Chicago Cubs play the local team for a series and try to take in the local flavor. We decided last year it was time for a new idea.

It was a great decision! The forest around the property was thick and beautiful. The property itself was a cute and clean little house with trees surrounding it for the kids to explore in and a view of the lake. We spent our evenings on the deck relaxing and enjoying the lack of the noise that we experience in our everyday life just outside Chicago. We spent our days exploring the surrounding areas, driving to nearby waterfalls and taking advantage of the boat on the property to go out on lake for the afternoon and enjoying some fishing. My son caught a nice sized bass and the neighbors were so nice they helped teach us how to clean the fish and we fried it up for dinner!

The nearby town is a nice little place where the people are very friendly. We spent Fourth of July in town and watched the annual parade which the kids got a big kick out of. Then, we headed down to Lake Superior where they continue the celebration with activities the kids could partake in and even a stage set up with a game show type atmosphere. My son and I were picked in their version of "The Price is Right" and even won a prize (but then failed to win the grand prize).

Once the evening begins, local bands play on the lake front. The fireworks display as just after the bands finished and it was a very impressive production.

We plan on going back in the next few years and will try to go to the same property.

Beautful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The home and the surrounding area is beautiful. We enjoyed our time on the snowmobile trails and really can't wait to get up to the area again. The owner is very nice. They did have a water line break from the cold a few days before we got there but they took care of it. The dog run area was a huge bonus to us but our dog wouldn't use it.....she is not use to being confined to do her business. We seen in previous reviews that people complained about the TV......People its literally 19"-21" with a built in DVD player which wouldn't have been a major issue if we would have remembered our fire stick, they have a Roku, very different then what we are use to using but we made do. We weren't there to watch TV anyway. They do have wifi which works really good. (You are in the Hiawatha National Forest and the Internet speed is fast not what I was expecting) This cottage is suppose to sleep 6 so I figured when I read complaints about lack of towels that people were being ridiculous. Seriously they have 3 towels and 3 washcloths and a couple of hand towels. It was ok for my family of 3 but if you have more people in your group the logic of washing a load of towels just so the rest of your group can shower is crazy.....so plan accordingly. Over all this is a beautiful home and quiet area. People in the area were very nice and there is a lot to do if you enjoy the outdoors. Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore was one of our adventures, frozen waterfalls, snowmobiling we really had a great time!!!!!!

Clean, perfect getaway spot!

  • 4 of 5

We came up from Chicago for a relaxing fall getaway weekend and the cottage was perfect. Clean, well stocked, loved having the washer dryer. I didnt find the beds as bad as other reviews mentioned, and i have a very comfortable bed at home. The couch was pretty hard, but the living room chairs were comfortable. Beautiful view of lake off the back porch. We didn't end up using the fire pit and canoes but really wished we had. Would definitely stay again. Also, Pictured Rocks was gorgeous and the hike to Chapel Rock TOTALLY worth it.

Well kept property

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised. The property is up to date and very clean. Pretty much everything you'd need is here. The dog run was good sized with a high fence right below the deck. Three boats were included for use. Some things to know for future renters.

The coach does sink in. It is a sleeper sofa and that is common with them. The beds were ok. Not super but not as bad as mentioned in another review. The water pressure is good. Internet was about 2mbps. Roku worked ok (we brought our own tv which worked out for us). Several games and a few dvds were there as well. Neighbors are close by but quiet. The water is pretty shallow and clear so wading out is easy. The well water smells a bit of sulfer which is common but I guess it would throw someone off that wasn't used to non city water.

We really enjoyed staying there and recommend others do so as well

Sitting on the deck of this cottage on lost lake is the ideal escape from city life. It is situated just 10 minutes from the beautiful pictured rocks national lakefront, boat tours of pictured rocks, tours of lake superior shipwrecks, golf course, and the ferry to grand island. There are at least two locations in munising to purchase fresh and smoked fish from the local fisheries. There are a number of water falls to visit just a few miles away. You are immediately within seconds of several hiking trails in the hiawatha national forest. There are 2 beautiful public beaches in the area. Sandy point beach (in munising) and autrain beach further up highway 28. Both allow you to walk out quite a distance. In town you can take one of the lake superior kayaking tours, or there are many little stores just a few miles away that allow you to rent kayaks, jet skis, or simply buy bait.

During the winter, the trails are transformed to beautiful cross country trails, or you can snow shoe. In town, you can rent snowmobiles, and access guides. The activities are year round. Whether you just want to go for a fall colors tour, or add to your rock collection, bird watch, or pick blueberries for a home made pie. It is the perfect location for any activity level.
