Year Round Vacation Rental Newer Cottage On Lost Lake In Natl. Forest

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom,1 Bath With Queen Size Fold Out. Sleeps 6. Fabulous Views Of Lake.

The cottage on lost lake is cozy, serene, clean, and has all of the amenities of home, but away from the mad rush. Sitting on the deck, and enjoying the 100 ft. Pines and taking in the lake view is the perfect escape from it all. The cottage is on a private road. It is accessible all year round. When you enter the cottage you are welcome by a large kitchen/ dining area, accompanied by a large living room area , all with tongue and groove vaulted ceiling. The cottage was lovingly built by a couple who live on the same lake. There is an immediate sense of serenity, and space. There are 2 bedrooms in the back. One is a double iron wrought bed with lovely oak furniture, many drawers, and large closets. The other has very new and solid bunk beds. In the living room, the couch is also a queen size pull out bed. There is one bath. It is really 2 rooms. The double sinks, and vanity, and washer and dryer are in a room adjoining the bathtub, shower, and camode.

It has a full kitchen, with complete utensils, pots and pans, dishes, spices, and all appliances, (except dish washer)

The deck has a small iron table and chairs to accommodate outdoor dining.

It is a walkout basement, with an adjoining dog kennel so that you can let the dog out in the middle of the night without having to suit up for a walk.

The lot will accommodate parking for a trailor, and a few cars. The entire property is 3 acres. Right off of the road are a number of trails that will lead you through the hiawatha national forest. You can enjoy them by foot, snow mobile, snow shoe, cross country skiing, etc. ... Truly a place for all seasons. We would ask, out of courtesy for the neighbors. That snowmobilers would respect the 15 mile an hr. Speed limit on the private road, and refrain from making noise with the snowmobiles after 10:00.

The cottage is set up with a phone, and internet. There is a tv with dvd player. There is a collection of dvds to chose from, or there are a few places to rent from in town.

About Marguerite Deslippe

My family lives down state in a suburb of Detroit. We look forward to our getaways to Lost Lake, and the Munising area. We also have many wonderful friends that are neighbors there.

Marguerite Deslippe purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Marguerite Deslippe chose Michigan

My family and I first discovered this area while on camping trips about 20 years ago. We had been to Colorado, Alaska, and several places in Europe, but the Munising Bay, and Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior was just so special and breathtaking to us. Including the benefit that there was no waiting in line at the airport. We switched our cottage hunting location from down state to this area. We loved the cliffs and the water and the ruggedness, and the wild live, and the people that we met here. When we were shown this new cottage, and met the people who had built it and found out that it was a man and wife that were building their own cabin on Lost Lake that was it! This was going to be the place.

What makes this cottage unique

Several things made us fall in love with this cottage. It was not on a major freeway, so no noise from trucks all night long. The place was built with tender loving care by neighbors, and when the boys ran down the lake, they were immediately busy searching for frogs, fishing, just creating their own outdoor entertainment

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for letting us use your cabin the last few days. Our two boys really had fun on the paddle boat and enjoyed meeting all of the friendly dogs around. We did quite a bit the last 4 days. I think our favorite was the Pictured Rocks boat tour and checking out the waterfalls in the area. Thanks again.

Comfy cozy and oh so relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! We walked in so amazed at how beautiful the property was. We felt right at home. The cottage was everything we were looking for and then some. Perfect location too. So nice relaxing on the patio. And stress free with our dogs having a fenced in back yard. It rained a lot during our stay but it was okay. Leaving the patio door open listening to the rain while playing cards at the table was perfect. Because of the rain we were unable to have more than one fire next to the beautiful lake or take one of 3 boats out. 2 canoes and a paddle boat. Saw lots of fish jump. Bet its great fishing. Fully equipt kitchen was great for making our breakfasts and the washer and dryer came in handy because we biked and hiked in the rain. We truelly loved this place and would love to stay here again in the future. Oh! And so many waterfalls just minutes away! That made for a great and rewarding adventure. Margarette was very helpful with directions to her property. Didn't get lost once. Easy in easy out. A no fuss no stress rental. Thank you Margarette!

Owner's Response: Hi Gina, Glad you enjoyed the cabin. There has been so much rain this year that the lake levels are higher than the last 30 yrs.Sp,me of the residents docks are partly under water. Therefore not much beach, and hard to cut grass in the rain...on the other hand, they are seeing birds that are not common to that area because of the draugts out west. So there is some good with it as well.

The home very beautiful. But the home was not kept up very well. Lawn was over grown, needed to be mowed. Our fire pit was under water. The boat, canoe and oars are just thrown down by the water in the mud. Oars were completely rotted, couldn't use them. Also the home was very dirty. Dog hair everywhere, on the furniture and the dryer was loaded with hair. Giant cobb webbs in every corner. I woke up with spider bites on my back. bug guts smeared all over the walls. I would not reccommend this home. Very dirty. needs to be DEEP CLEANED BAD!

Owner's Response: Dear Jamie The area has had lots of rain. The water level at the lake is higher than it has been for 30 yrs. I can not control Mother Nature, and neither can you. I was there before you were, and your complaints are much exaggerated. Yes there are mosquitoes in the forest. They bit me as well. In the 15 yrs that I have owned the cottage since it was built, I have NEVER seen a spider in the house. It would have been nice if you had turned over the canoe before you left. . I'm so happy that owners are capable of rating guests as well now. Perhaps you should vacation at the Ritz next year. Your're review was ridiculous. bye bye!!!

Really nice area.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed there during snowmobile season, it’s a little bit of a ride to get to the trails but there was enough snow on the roads that it wasn’t bad. The place was very clean and well stocked with everything needed for cooking meals. Trailer parking was good and room for our sleds. I would stay there again.

Home was clean. Everything was exactly how it said it would be. Views from the deck are wonderful. Home is located in a very nice, secluded area yet is within 10 minutes ten minutes of the Pictured Rocks Lake Shore. Overall wonderful experience.

Sitting on the deck of this cottage on lost lake is the ideal escape from city life. It is situated just 10 minutes from the beautiful pictured rocks national lakefront, boat tours of pictured rocks, tours of lake superior shipwrecks, golf course, and the ferry to grand island. There are at least two locations in munising to purchase fresh and smoked fish from the local fisheries. There are a number of water falls to visit just a few miles away. You are immediately within seconds of several hiking trails in the hiawatha national forest. There are 2 beautiful public beaches in the area. Sandy point beach (in munising) and autrain beach further up highway 28. Both allow you to walk out quite a distance. In town you can take one of the lake superior kayaking tours, or there are many little stores just a few miles away that allow you to rent kayaks, jet skis, or simply buy bait.

During the winter, the trails are transformed to beautiful cross country trails, or you can snow shoe. In town, you can rent snowmobiles, and access guides. The activities are year round. Whether you just want to go for a fall colors tour, or add to your rock collection, bird watch, or pick blueberries for a home made pie. It is the perfect location for any activity level.
