Some tips to decide between our two cabins, Romance and Amor:

minutes further down the hill, outside the main gate, on the adjoining property to the
north. Amor has a lake view and is more secluded. Romance has a lake and a volcano

- Both are well insulated and ecological in design and energy usage. Romance has
- Both are located in a pastoral setting amidst sheep, horse, and cows grazing in the
distance. Our golden retrievers occasionally visit Amor (especially Oso, a gentle soul
who loves children). The dogs do not have access to Romance.
- Romance has Moroccan décor and Amor Egyptian furnishings.
- Amor has its own quincho (covered barbecue area with chairs). Romance has a
portable outdoor grill.

About Judyth Reichenberg
We are naturopathic/homeopathic doctors and authors, married for 30 years. In 2005 we took a kayak trip to Pumalin Park in the South of Chile, and fell in love with the area around Pucon. We were captivated by the breathtaking beauty of our property and bought it the same day! We named our land Ayun Mapu (Mapuche for 'land of love' or 'land that we love.' We built our dream home and house for our caretaker family. Last year we added a cabin. We have landscaped professionally and enjoy gorgeous flowers, native trees and bushes, fruit trees in a park-like setting as well as savoring the bounty of a large organic garden. We now have 9 acres, sheep, chickens, and a resident German shepherd as well as our outdoor cats and golden retrievers who accompany us from the U.S. It helps that Judyth got a degree in Spanish literature and Bob is avidly improving his Spanish. Our home, Gracias a La Vida, which we vacate ourselves seasonally for guests, was so popular that we decided to build a second rental home which was more economical: Amor del Lago. It is also a place for us to stay when our home is rented.
Judyth Reichenberg purchased this House in 2012
Why Judyth Reichenberg chose Villarrica
The view, the view, the view!! The shimmering water of the huge lake, the smoldering, snow-capped volcano ten minutes away; the countless stars of the Milky Way from the terrace; the delicious home-cooked Chilean meals with the best wine on the planet; the riotous cosmos, dahlias, lilies, lavender; the compact, colorful kitchen with all the modern conveniences; the great mattresses and soft sheets; the long summer days of light until 10PM, more hikes and hot springs and restaurants than we could name; the honking Chilean geese; the elusive, green lorakeets, who show up now and then. Watching our lambs frolic in the pasture next door. Buying delicious fresh or smoked salmon from the local fishmongers. Attending top-notch yoga classes just ten minutes away. Strolling on the beach all by ourselves. Kayaking on Lake Villarrica with outrageous views everywhere, and no other paddlers in sight. Staying toasty with the Amesti woodstove or visiting one of the numerous local hot springs on a rainy day. Savoring delicious, healthy, organic salads and fresh herbs right from our own garden and greenhouses. Eating the wonderful, fresh cheese that you can buy on practically every corner in Pucon and that we hope to make from our sheep's milk this year. Greeting our cheerful cuidador (caretaker) each morning as he asks, unfailingly, 'Como amanacio?' meaning 'How did you wake up?'
What makes this House unique
It took us less than five minutes after stepping onto our land to decide to buy it! The sheer beauty was jaw-dropping! Earlier this year we found the perfect place for the chalet which offers the unique combination of seclusion (nestled in the forest), expansive view of Lake Villarrica, the surrounding mountains, and our sheep pasture, and a remarkably peaceful environment.

Amzaing stay in all regards
Amor del Lago was the perfect place to stay for our family of 4 (2 parents, 2 adult children). The cabana is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. And the view of the lake was absolutely stunning.
We especially enjoyed touring the Pucon area during the days and then retiring to the cabana for a glass of wine on the deck. What a view of the lake and of the southern hemisphere stars. We started our days with breakfast at the cabana, including fresh picked blackberries right on the property. Highlights of our visit to the Pucon area were climbing the Volcon Villarica, soaking in the amazing Termas Geometricas and strolling the charming streets of Pucon. After a day our exploring, we returned to the cabana clean up and enjoy dinner in Pucon. Our favorite was the sushi (Black Forest) and also really enjoyed Fresia and Bacco. We just ran out of time for the many other activities in the area, so will hopefully be back and will definitely stay again at Judyth's place.
Wonderful! We are only sorry that we didn't get to meet you! Next time......

Cozy, comfortable getaway cabin
I loved this place! It’s a little bit tricky to find, but the owners give good directions and once you find it it’s very worth it. A cozy, colourful, earthy cabin with a wood stove, a beautiful deck overlooking the valley and the lake, and a nice modern fully equipped kitchen. We got there late in the evening after a long drive, and walked in and couldn’t believe our luck! The owners were away but the caretaker met us there and got us settled. The owners speak English, but the caretaker doesn’t. Luckily my son spoke Spanish, as we didn’t. The first morning we got up we were met by a friendly golden retriever who came to greet us, along with the most friendly cat I’ve ever met. They came to see us every morning we were there, and some evenings. They belong to the owner next door. Each evening after our day we relaxed on the deck to a gorgeous view and one evening my son called me over in time to see the resident sheep all running full out in a line, one behind the other across the field! It was hilarious. We decided they were training for a marathon! We made a fire every night and every morning, which warms the cabin up very quickly, but if you prefer, they also have electric baseboard heaters if needed. The beds were very comfy, and it was so quiet at night! We were very sad to leave this place, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
We're so happy you loved your stay, Lynn, and are sorry we weren't here to welcome and meet you! The goldens (we have two) or ours, as well as the kitty. The golden must have been Oso,and he was probably lonely because we were away. Sorry that your SIM wasn't working, which meant that you didn't have the directions, especially arriving at night. But we're glad that you sorted it out, with Nelson's help. We were happy to share our southern Chilean paradise with you and your family!

Unbeatable views & comfort
I can't say enough great things about Amor Del Lago. Our family of 5 was lucky to stay there for 11 nights as we explored the Pucon region. The cabana is set up with everything you could need- warm, comfy beds, nice towels, a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine, etc. I think our favorite part was watching the sunset each night from the deck with a glass of wine! The views of the lake were unbeatable! The road up is a bumpy dirt one for the last couple of miles, but we managed it fine with a 2wd minivan with low clearance. The only con was the wifi was too spotty/weak for me to do my work from there. I ended up going down to CoWork Pucon down in town, which met our needs. And in the late evening the internet seemed to work better than during the day. Cell signal/3G/LTE also worked from up there. Judyth and Bob are wonderful hosts, and our views were only surpassed by the ones from their house up the hill, where you can see both the lake and the volcano! So, so lucky we found this place!!
How fortunate your daughters are to travel around South America for six months! We are so happy that you loved staying in Amor del Lago! February is the busiest month of the year in Pucón and there is competition among tourists for WIFI in peak hours. We are glad the you discovered the CoWork space in Pucón since you had two days of internet work. The internet in Amor has worked up to now with normal internet usage. Bob is going to install a booster from the U.S. in the cabins and that will hopefully increase the signal. We also just heard about a new high-speed service in Villarrica and we're on the list for them to come out to our land to evaluate as soon as they get more equipment in stock.

Pictures don't do it justice
We stayed for four nights in this wonderful cabin overlooking lake Villarrica in early January. With four adults (mom, dad and two adult sons), we found the place cozy, extremely well laid out and equipped, and views forever. It is a little hard to get there (need a 4x4), but it's so WORTH IT! The owners, Judyth & Bob insist that you visit their house - and by god, do take them up on their offer - it's gorgeous. The area has tons of activities, and so worth the trek. Cannot recommend it more.
We're so glad you loved Amor! Actually very few of our guests rent 4x4s and they manage fine. You have a lovely family. Hope you come again!

You could live here happily ever after
This place is a find. Judyth and Bob honestly want the place to be very livable and have clearly put a lot of thought into designing it that way. They occasionally rent out their palace and live in this cabana. The location is super close to Pucon, but far enough that you are in the country. Cubinato, the horse, is a sly fellow who loves carrots and visiting. The dogs and cats (which generally hang out up at the palace) are super sweet and my kids loved them. The sheep are lacking in personality, but make great backgrounds for photos. The bird life is remarkable. Bring your binoculars as I had pangs that I wished I had mine several times - hummingbirds, parrots, and lots of other birds I'm not familiar with (we saw an Andean Condor on the volcano!)
Other things you'll care about
* WiFi works well and was reasonably speedy on my phone, but for some reason ran like a pig on my laptop (maybe my issue)
* Personally, I don't think you need 4-wheel to navigate the road, but we had it.
* Washing machine worked great - you'll be encouraged to line dry for power reasons, which worked well
* Judyth and Bob know the area super well and are a great asset for ideas for activities and are VERY approachable
We rented a couple of other cabanas in Chile on our trip and they were jokes compared to this (no hot water, no towels, everything was very cheap - low standards). The Pucon area is very interesting and will keep any group engaged for at least a week. We did whitewater rafting, went to a thermal bath, did horseback riding, and climbed the volcano. I'll say one thing about the volcano. Obviously, it is a lot of work to get up and down, but it is a fairly hazardous trail (at least in April) with everyone falling down multiple times and most catching themselves a couple of times before sliding down the "hill" many feet.
Our guides kept us moving with much less breaks than anyone in the group wanted. However, I've hiked all over the world and it was a one of a kind trip - just don't assume it is safe by American/Canadian/Europe standards.
Book it, and if you are thinking about early April it is an awesome time to be in Pucon with very few tourists, lovely weather, and days long enough to tire anyone out.
p.s. Go ahead and bring your good camera as the sunsets from the deck alone are worth the lugging.
Carl, have you ever thought of writing a tour guide? There's another career waiting for you. And maybe another as a humorist! We're so glad that you loved Amor del Lago and being here! We're not sure why you had trouble with WIFI on your laptop. Normally it works fine. You made the most of your five days here... good for you! We generally suggest a week to ten days to settle in, take in the many attractions, and enjoy the comforts of home away from home. We agree that a 4x4, though handy, is not necessary if you don't want to fork out the extra money for the rental car upgrade. Depends a lot, in our experience, on your driving skills. Our only other comment is that we recommend Summit Chile for the volcano climb. The owners are friends, Claudio has been a mountain guide for years, and they are extra cautious about the volcano climb all around. We hiked it with them in November of 2014 for the first time. I was 67 at the time and Bob was 63. It was quite challenging, but very safe. Claudio even made us all take a 30-minute break till the wind changed course, while the other groups continued to ascend, to make sure we wouldn't be breathing any fumes. We know that you also went with a very experienced and reputable company, but we still recommend SC. Thank you again for being great guests and writing a super review!
Hasta la próxima, as we say here!
