Quiet retreat

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is in a remote area yet it is a gated community so you feel safe. It is about 30 minutes to the grocery store, so if you like a lot of hustle and bustle it is not for you. We like the quiet countryside so it was good for us.

Our only negative was that the bed is HARD. Also, if you like to soak in the tub- there is only a shower.

The surrounding area is beautiful in the fall. Other reviewers complained about the wi fi. We had no problems with it.

If you want a somewhat rustic quiet retreat, this is it.

Like Mary Poppins would say.....Practically perfect in every way!!

  • 4 of 5

I loved the rustic touch of this cabin. The furniture is old but comphy and serves its purpose. The cabin has a wood burning stove as well as 2 electric flame heaters which keeps the cabin nice and toasty on those cold mornings. The property was beautiful with the creek running along side it. The cabin is set in its own little area away from neighbors. Unless you go much further up the mountain, you'll only see one other cabin past this one.

On days where you have nothing big planned there are trails in this gated community that you can explore. The mountain on the other side of the lake (right outside the community) is beautiful and fun to drive.

Karen, the property manager and Ami, the owner made sure our stay was comfortable.

The one thing I would say that was less then perfect was the cleaning and the lack of supplies that was listed. Other than there being no toaster, bring your own toilet paper and garbage bags. Karen sent me a message asking if I had sheets for the day bed but all there was were pillow cases. I'm sure she or Ami would have made sure we had extra sheets if my phone service allowed me to reach out in a timely manner.

The only other thing was that the connection for the WiFi was pretty bad.... but......you're up in the mountains and that's expected! My service was bad all the way from Topton to Murphy.

All in all, I really loved it there. Being in a cabin, up in the mountains was my dream come true. Although my search for a cabin was a long one, finding this one with the days available that I wanted was truly a blessing. I will be back for sure.

Good Location - some amenities missing

  • 3 of 5

My family and I stayed here to enjoy paddling on the nearby Nantahala River. This was a good location, about 15 minutes from the put-in and 30 minutes from the take-out. The cabin was also very nice, in a quiet location with a nice stream running through the yard that the kids enjoyed playing in.

The only complaint is that many of the amenities that were promised were not there. No shampoo / conditioner, laundry detergent, coffee, and an insufficient number of towels. This was an inconvenience considering the cabin is pretty far from any stores. We wouldn't have minded bringing these items from home if they weren't listed as provided.

Cute, quiet, and we'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a getaway in the mountains this little cottage is well situated to give you that escape spot. My wife and I enjoyed the fly fishing and the natural beauty of driving along miles of the rushing Nantahala River. Breakfast on the river at the NOC was perfect. I don't want to say much more or the place won't be available when we want to return!

Nice cabin, beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is nestled in a park-like setting with a little creek running through the side yard providing natural music. The drive to the cabin was stunning -- with the lower and upper Nantahala River running parallel to the road for most of the way. Very twisty road was fun to drive. Right next door is a small farm with two pretty and friendly horses. Less than 1/4 mile away is a put-in for Queens Creek lake -- very scenic and quiet mountain lake about .8 miles long. I did laps in my kayak to prep for running the Nantahala. There's another public put-in with an observation deck.

The cabin was appointed with everything you need for a rustic vacation. I appreciated the charcoal and firewood and enjoyed reading in the comfy chair in the back yard and walks with the dogs on the low-traffic roads. Bicycling Winding Staircase Road is both a treat and challenge.

Less than perfect: If you don't like microfiber sheets, you might want to bring your own. The internet is intermittent and cell phone reception (Verizon) non existent. I arrived on an over 90 degree day and the window AC could not bring the inside temp down til late at night.

All in all, a very enjoyable mini vacation.
