Steeped in pirate lore, the spanish pirate Jose Gaspar, also known by the name Gasparilla, made this beautiful seven mile stretch of land and surrounding islands, a secret base with natural inlets and coves. Local legends whisper of buried treasures hidden beneath the islands sandy shores. Gaspars Hideaway community has named our sandy paths to embrace our pirate heritage. The Salty Mermaid is located on Rum Runner and Jolly Roger Trail.

No cars allowed on the island, only golf carts and sandy paths, ready for you to escape into nature during your walking island escapades.. We are a bridgeless barrier island off the coast of South West Florida. Accessible only by private boat or water taxi.

With 3 bedrooms including 2 comfy queen beds and a set of bunk beds, all with down duvet comforters, along with 2 full bathrooms, and an outdoor shower on the lower deck. Enjoy amenities like Starlink fast speed internet (included), new 75" smart TV ready for your streaming entertainment, a well equipped kitchen, fully stocked with a Ninja Foodi smart air fryer, coffee and tea bar with Cuisinart Grind & Brew coffee machine, bring your favorite K cups. Upper deck BBQ (propane included), lower deck lounge for relaxation, a game of darts, yoga, meditation or for just reading your favorite book.

Things to Note:

We live on a bridgeless barrier island, next to Boca Grande. Parking is available at Eldreds Marina, 6301 Boca Grande Causeway, Placida, Florida, 33946, fees apply (You cannot bring your car to the island). If you have your own boat you may launch at Eldreds but it must be 24' or less to tie up at our community dock, which is complimentary for our guests. No boat no problem, you can make reservations with Pirates water taxi (941-697-5777) with either Emmett or Bill as your captain. You must reserve well before your arrival date to make arrangements for your arrival and departure, available every day from 8:30-5:00pm, it does cost extra after hours. Make sure you tell the captain that you are going to Dock #75 (Gaspars Hideaway).
Bring a beach wagon or 2 to help transport all your belongings to the beach house. It is a short walk from the community dock, we have a 2 wheel, wheel barrel at the beach house that you are welcome to use to transport all your goodies. It will be parked inside the wooden gate at the beach house. If you would like to rent a golf cart, Paradise cart rental may be available, here is their phone number, 942-697-3820. There are no stores or restaurants on the island so please plan ahead and bring all your food, drinks and supplies for your stay.

We have a sensitive septic system, everything is a little special and delicate on the island. Please do not flush paper towels, feminine products, diapers, or sanitary wipes down toilet.

We have left a full bucket of water to dunk your sandy toes prior to going upstairs into the beach house, We would appreciate all flip flops, sandals and shoes be left outside.

GUEST ACCESS

The whole beach house and property is available for your enjoyment. As with most homes on the island, the living quarters are built on pilings, so there are steps to climb.
