About Judy Chaikin
I am a documentary film director residing in Los Angeles California where I grew up. I attended Roosevelt High School, LA City College and The American Film Institute - AFI. I am a two time Emmy Nominee and my passion is rose gardening. I love to make things beautiful and comfortable and that's what I hope you will find in Ballena 204
Judy Chaikin purchased this Condo in 1997
Why Judy Chaikin chose Los Cabos
My husband and I visited Los Cabos in 1991 and we were so enchanted by the area that we purchased our personal condo on that first weekend. We soon realized that as Cabo began to develop, builders were no longer doing low density projects, only major hotels. We knew we had bought a little gem. As our family grew we purchased Ballena #204 in 1997 as a second unit for our visiting children and friends. We keep it in beautiful condition and rent it out when not in use by the family.
What makes this Condo unique
As you enter the private gates the artistry of the landscaping is immediately apparent and the low density means you have the kind of relaxed privacy that instantly soothes your soul. It's the kind of getaway that we all need...with enough activity to keep you fit and some of the finest restaurants in the world to keep you well fed. Sharing the 33 acre property with the boutique Casa del Mar Hotel, provides us with all the benefits of a restaurant, bar, gym and concierge yet allows us to live with a kind of homey lifestyle not available in a hotel.

This was THE most relaxing holiday I have ever had!
Great condo, not for families
We stayed here recently with my husband and our two littles, ages 4 and 2. The condo itself was great, well maintained, well stocked, and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. The grounds were immaculate and the office manager was very helpful. Everything about the place was very nice and the beach access was hard to beat. It's not a swimmer's beach, but it's nice to lay out and whale watch. However, I will say that the listing for this property says "children welcome" which is very inaccurate. While the owner might be happy to have children in her condo, the property residents are NOT. And no where in this listing does it say all the rules of the pool, which very much discourages children. If I had known all the rules of the complex I would have stayed elsewhere to allow my kids to have fun. I had several older women (who laid out for 10+ hours a day by the pool which got almost zero usage) practically yell at my 4 year old for dipping his legs in the hot tub. They glared every time my kids made normal children noises, like yelling or squealing or laughing loudly. One lady told me it was a danger to my child's health to be in the hot tub (to which my husband, an ER nurse, laughed as we watched her lay out all day every day, drinking, getting no exercise--and she needed it, and putting herself at risk for melanoma with her gaggle of friends who did the same). The pool rules here were ridiculous. No children in diapers (not even swim diapers), no kids under 12 in the hot tub (though there are no warnings about cardiovascular risks or blood pressure medications-- which would easily have excluded half the people who used it), no loud noises, no horseplay, no playing on the grass, and no using the pool before 8 am (which was violated by at least 4 old people every single morning). We were the youngest people there by at least 30 years and we have never felt so looked down on and condescended on. It made us really resent the older people here. So if you are young, have a family, want to do more than lay out all day long, this property is not for you. If you are older, have no children in tow, and don't mind a property that is super quiet, this will fit the bill perfectly. I am rating this 3 stars because the facility itself was great, the owner provided a lot of information beforehand (except the extensive list of rules) and the location is nice, but I'm afraid the listing is very inaccurate for young families like mine.
overall we enjoyed ourselves.
Casa Del Mar is Quiet, relaxing, beautifully landscaped and well maintained. We wish the beach was swimmable. The Restaurant was ok, But the service seemed to lack when they realized we were only renting. Transportation was easy from the property to get to Cabo or San Jose and inexpensive.
Enjoyed our stay in Ballena 204! View was beautiful, condo was very clean and beds were comfortable. Perfect size for 2 of us for a few days. The fridge is small so buy your items in small quantities. Did I mention that the condo is steps away from the warmest pool ever?? Would definitely come back here. Thank you, Judy!
Great winter vacation
We enjoyed the apartment and found it very convenient to everything we needed. The beds are extremely comfortable. Great view. Should have checked into a bit more maid service and area to do laundry. I think available but I did not check.
Quiet, peaceful, beautiful!
We greatly enjoyed our stay! The condo was a perfect size for me and my husband for a few days and we greatly enjoyed the peaceful and quiet resort after spending 5 days somewhere else with a work event. It was nice to sit by the pool and read a book and we loved walking the beach in the mornings and seeing the whales so close! The resort was almost too quiet at times, but it may have just been the time of year. The condo was furnished with everything we could have needed, although we chose to eat out each meal. The dining options on property were somewhat limited but a short walk on the beach took you to other resorts with more food options. We love our stay and would go back again!
Casa del Mar is located in the Cabo Real area of 'The Corridor' between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo where you find the pristine stretches of white sand beaches that made Los Cabos world famous. You can whale watch from the balcony, witness baby sea turtles hatching on the beach, or go horseback riding on the sand. Minutes by car from all the major attractions in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, including world class golf courses and deep sea fishing, surfing, SUP, jetskis, ATVs, whale watching, ecotours, glass bottom boat rides, zip-lines, para-sailing, kayaking, bird watching, and fantastic snorkeling in nearby Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Bay. Exciting culinary scene featuring local seafood and organic produce, plus tons of fantastic taco stands. Cabo San Lucas is known for the famous 'Land's End' arch, fun bars on the beach and a wild nightclub scene while San Jose del Cabo is known for art galleries and a more relaxed atmosphere.
