Why K. David Cadieu chose West Bay
My wife and I traveled to Grand Cayman for the first time in 2010 and fell in love with the island. We were impressed with the unique location of Villas Pappagallo and quickly decided that we wanted to make the island a part of our life. We've spent the better part of 2012 renovating and updating our condo.

A really beautiful property in a great location!
My husband and I stayed for a week with our 17 year old son over Spring break. The condo was just as lovely as it appears in the photos- spacious, clean, furnished to a very high standard and in a good location. The views from the balconies overlooking the pool and the sea were stunning. We enjoyed the pool and the quiet beach. It was too windy the week we were there to swim in the sea, apart from one day, but as we were a short drive to 7 mile beach and other beaches which were more conducive to swimming, it wasn’t an issue. The condo was an oasis to return to each day. It contained everything we needed, except for a cool box which would have been helpful. The owner was great to work with and contacted me before and after the vacation to ensure that everything was ok. This was our first trip to Cayman Island and we really loved it, though we found many of the restaurants to be pricey so it was good to be able to buy our own provisions and eat in the condo sometimes.
Thank you Bernie for your thoughtful comments. We really enjoyed you and your family as our guests.
Condo is located on end of road so very little traffic. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Plenty of space for our Party of 5.
Ocean was too rough for swimming during our stay. Used the pool which was nice. Loved the balconies but gnats were numerous and bit so couldn't use them as much as I would have liked.
Great property away from the hustle and bustle of 7 mile
We decided to stay in the West Bay Area because it is close to the kitesurfing school and lots of scuba diving! We were pleasantly surprised by the secluded area. This is certainly not tourist central 7 mile beach, so EXACTLY what we were looking for!!
Villas pappagallo is a great place to relax. The condo has 4 balconies With plenty of chairs and lounges. There is a pool outside and Dave was pretty clear in letting us know all of the details such as the little whirl pool is not a hot tub which I greatly appreciate. Beach towels were also provided.
The apartment came with everything you should need, even soap and toilet paper in the bathrooms! There was also a washer dryer which we found useful as well. You definitely need a car to get here, we found it easy to get to the apartment and driving on the left side of the road was not a problem as there are tons of signs!! the grocery store is only 10 minutes away and the kitchen has everything you need to cook. There was even a spice rack! Across the street is also a great restaurant!
I would say there are no cons to this place except Sometimes in the morning there were roosters waking us up, but only in the smaller bedroom. The other couple did not seem to hear them so I could just be a light sleeper.
I would 100% come back and stay here again !!
Thank you Lauren for your comments! I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay.
We enjoyed the West Bay area because it was like we had the beach to ourselves each day. We rented a car and were able to travel to other parts of the island and snorkel. We enjoyed Cemetery beach the most and it was only 8 mins from the condo. We recommend Moby Dick tours for the Stingray visit and Heritage Shack at Heritage square for an authentic Island meal. The owner Dave was extremely friendly and easy to work with and responsive to any questions or items that we needed during our stay. Which included getting blankets from another owner for one of my children. The Condo was very clean and felt like our home away from home. :)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR HOME WITH US!!!!
Thank you for your very nice comments! I am glad that you and your family had an enjoyable visit and it was a pleasure hosting you.
Beautiful, quiet location - perfect place to relax with great restaurants close by
Grand Cayman is a beautiful island. Condo was clean, spacious and very well equipped. It made you feel like you were in a home away from home. Owner Dave was very helpful and responsive to questions. My friend and I were greeted by George, the property manager, who was also friendly and helpful.
Villas Pappagallo is a perfect place to relax. Condo has four balconies so you can sit outside in the sun or shade, as you prefer. Salt water pool was good temperature for swimming. Property is extremely well kept with mature shrubs and palm trees. A few chickens and roosters roam the property and add charm. Ample lounge chairs and regular chairs and tables by the pool and on the beach. We swam in the sea off the pier and several times went up the beach into the nature reserve where you can swim from the beach. Fosters, a chain grocery store, is about 10 minutes away by car and has a wide range of groceries. (You definitely need a car to get around.) There are many options for dining from casual to fine dining close by particularly if you like fish and seafood. There is one good restaurant across the street.
Stairs could be an issue for anyone with mobility issues as you walk up a flight from the front door to the main living area and then another flight to the bedrooms and bathrooms. A two piece bathroom on the main level would have been nice.
I would definitely rent this property again.
Nice View but...
As previous reviewers have mentioned, this is away from the crowds and offers a nice view of the beach. It is adjacent to a trash strewn National Park that is appalling to walk along (both beach and road) but is pretty secluded.
But, here are the reasons for rating it low. While the view is nice, the beach is unusable due to the waves and coral. You will have to drive to another beach. The pool is unusable because it is freezing, even though it has been in the 80's. It is not heated and the only ones that use it are brave kids. The pictures also show what looks to be a hot tub but it is a kiddie pool. They do have an area that has jets, but again, no heat.
One of the worst parts of all is the God awful smell of the septic/sewer when you walk into the condo from the parking lot. You literally have to hold your breath and the balconies on that side cannot be used due to the smell.
If I returned to the island, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it.
Thank you for taking time to write a review. I’m sorry that the property did not live up to your expectations, especially since we work very hard to ensure that our guests fully understand the property before they purchase a vacation with us and that it is a good fit for what they are looking for. That is why I personally speak with every guest before they book as well as throughout the process. Of course, I do not always speak with every member of a party traveling together and, It seems like it wasn’t a good match in this case, which is disappointing since we really want all our guest to leave wanting to return.
Having spoken with another guest from the same party, I do understand that the group actually did have a good vacation and certainly enjoyed my condo.
Most of the review comments seem to relate to ‘bad weather’ effects which is unfortunately something we can’t guarantee or control, but need to be understood in context. If a storm goes though we do get debris on the beach, but the beach is raked twice a week so it is quickly removed as soon as the storm passes through.
The park also likely had more debris on the beach than normal due to the weather, but it is a national park that the island enjoys with a kite boarding school and horse back riding on the trails. There is also a picnic area and hiking trails. It is a well managed Grand Cayman National park.
None of the swimming pools are heated in Grand Cayman because it is in the tropics and the swimming pools are where you go to cool down. There were in fact several people swimming last week so a comment regarding only two kids braving the water is inaccurate.
Concerning a smell in the parking lot, this is the first complaint we have heard about this and have asked the maintenance crew to review, but it is certainly not an on-going problem if it is a problem at all.
Obviously, it is very concerning to get such an extreme posting, especially if you look at my other reviews along with the other Pappagallo beach listings. We continually receive comments about how well kept and how beautiful the property is, and we rarely receive any form of negativity at all. Every property has pluses and minuses, but overall we generally get a five star rating from our guests.
My advice to anyone researching these villas is to please read through all the other comments for a more accurate understanding of the property.
Villas Pappagallo is directly on the beach in West Bay, Grand Cayman. We are situated next to Barkers National Park which is a secluded, undeveloped natural beach perfect for walks, spotting wildlife, picnics, etc. Ristorante Pappagallo is directly across the street and is one of the finest dining experiences on Grand Cayman.
