Guestbook comments from the manager

This house is a home. You can feel it as you enter the porch in anticipation of a very special time. When the door is opened, one can feel love emanating from the walls and spreading through the rooms as we explore each nook and corner. Echos of eager voices and shared laughter are here. Music is in the background. Merry friends and families have lived, though briefly, in this house that is a home.

And now, we too will add the essence of our own experiences, sharing old memories and making new ones. Reunited families under one roof love and laugh and shed a few tears in this unforgettable time. How quickly we settled in as though time was forever. And now, we too, must leave, separating us physically but united spiritually in endless love.

Perfect for multi-family gatherings. Spacious home with gorgeous views!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for my son's wedding, and had family and friends coming in to celebrate with us. This house offered everything we needed and more! The bedrooms are perfect for families-the extra space and day beds allowed each of us to have our own family space without crowding the main areas of the home. The kitchen was huge and perfect for cooking for a crowd! The porches with beautiful views were so lovely! We all enjoyed our stay so much, and this beautiful home made it so comfortable! We will definitely book again in the future! Just perfect!

Nice large house with room for large groups, with beautiful view of the New River.

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location with lots of room along with being well provisioned. There were nine of us staying at the house while we were riding the New River Trail and Virginia Creeper Trail. Everyone really enjoyed our stay there. My only suggestion is that the exterior of the house be spruced up.

Awesome vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing. Excedllent for large family or groups.Second time we have stayed here sand it was just as grat as first time.

Everything you need is provided. Loved the lock box. Great location for our daily tubing adventure and not far to where we went for kayaking. My 85 year old Dad had a ball and I had trouble keeping up with him. Thanks for an awesome and unforgettable family vacation.

Spacious & relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The lodge is spacious, the kitchen is well stocked, the linens not plush but clean and nice to the touch. It's truly not cramped as there are a lot of sitting areas and open space for moving around inside. The view from the porch is very pretty and calming. It's a bit of a steep walk down to & up from the river, especially for "older" folk. Getting into the river is also steep and we had concerns about the safety of it due to the metal on the ground posts. Once identified it was just a matter of being careful. Again, an older person would probably have a problem. The land area beside the river is large enough for several activities at once. The only semi-negatives are that the grass by the river needs to be bagged after cutting especially right before someone rents and the outside of the lodge could use a thorough power washing. I would absolutely rent here again!

Very generous space for three families, not extremely clean

  • 4 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of space in each of the rooms to fit our three families, however the carpet is very unclean. It was stained and caused our socks to turn brown on the bottom very quickly. There was also a bit of a smell that we assumed was coming from the carpet.

Owner's Response: Hi Jill, Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we apologize that you experienced this. We will certainly look into remedying the carpet cleanliness in the near term. We hope you enjoyed your stay and are glad you found the house to have adequate space! Thank you.

Gorgeous Property and Location

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting family in the Mt. Airy, N.C., and we're a little concerned about the distance, but the drive from Charlotte to Galax, and the repeated trips to Mt. Airy were a breeze. In fact, very pleasurable. The location was perfect considering our sight-seeing agenda along the Parkway, and our family church in Round Peak. The house itself is gorgeous, very clean and well equipped. Three large sinks and a huge refrigerator, as well as all the small appliances you would ever need make this house perfect for a large group. We only had 5 people so we had plenty of space and privacy, with large private rooms and bathrooms for everybody. The view is incredible being right on the river and we saw a lot of wildlife. A large buck was standing on the road as we drove up to the house. Many deer come down to the river for a drink at dusk. We saw large flocks of geese flying formation at low altitude along the river. We can't wait to return to this property. I would recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, the serenity of nature and separation from the hustle of the city. The property manager was very friendly and accommodating. We needed an extra day and it was an easy fix. Book it now. You won't be disappointed. DJ.

It is famous for bluegrass and old-time mountain music and live music is performed regularly at the Rex Theatre in Galax and the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Galax may be best known for the Old Fiddlers Convention and other local music festivals include Houston Fest held held in the spring and the Wayne Henderson Festival in June. Galax is a stop on Virginia's Crooked Road (https://www.myswva.org/tcr).

Other area attractions include the New River Trail State Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Virginia Highlands State Park.

The area is great for many outdoor activities including canoeing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, fishing, and golfing.

Galax is also home to Virginia's state BBQ Competition, a qualifying competition for the Memphis BBQ Network and the Kansas City BBQ Society. This event is held the third weekend in July.
