Our Hunt Country Cottage is located in the heart of Upperville Virginia, home to the nation’s oldest and most prestigious horse show. Purchased in 2005 as a second home getaway, the cottage is beautifully restored and decorated with loving care.
The home has a standing seam metal roof, clapboard style German siding, with a field stone foundation, cozy front porch and second floor dormer windows. The interior is painted with warm colors and accented by antique oak barn wood paneling and trim in the family room. The flooring is the original antique heart pine.
The cottage is decorated as a traditional English Hunt Box, with equine art and memorabilia, lovely antiques, warm carpets on the heart pine floors, with high-end towels and bed linens. The house is fully equipped – all you need is clothes and toiletries.
Enjoy the outdoors from covered porches front and rear. Relax in the comfort of a fully equipped modern house with a touch of our English heritage. A small stream where neighborhood songbirds and hawks visit frequently accents the back yard.
The village of Upperville is peaceful, quiet, and friendly. Broad sidewalks make for an easy stroll through town or visit to the local shops. Take a 10-minute stroll to explore the beautiful architecture of Trinity Episcopal Church and the well maintain walking paths located behind the cemetery. Young children will thoroughly enjoy the well-equipped playground.
Upperville is blessed with three fine establishments for dining, shopping and wine tasting. Enjoy fine dining and an old English pub across the street at the Hunter’s Head Tavern, a favorite destination for locals and visitors.
Strolling next door you will find the gem of Upperville: the Slater Run Tasting Room. Located in a field stone cottage with white pointing, the Testing Room is a destination unto itself. Beautifully restored and decorated by the Slater Run Vineyard, you will enjoy the warm of the interior woodwork crafted from lumber sourced from the Slater’s farm as well as comfortable furniture and decorations. In nice weather, the outdoor area provides a comfortable atmosphere to relax with friends and family.
By car, Sky Meadows State Park is a 10-minute drive to the west. The park provides regular events, hiking trails, campsites, a stocked fishing pond, and access to the Appalachian Trail. Drive a little farther and enjoy nature's harvest at Stribling and Hartland Orchards. Head west on 50 another 10 minutes and you will hit the Shenandoah River with outfitters for tubing, camping, canoeing, or trail rides.
Our home is perfectly situated for equestrian activities. We are within 10 minutes of world-class stables, polo fields, and steeplechase grounds. We also enjoy the convenience numerous wineries, excellent restaurants, Olde English pubs, and exquisite shops.
The cottage is conveniently located 8 miles west of Middleburg, 50 miles West of DC, and 5 miles from Sky Meadows State Park. A short 10-15 minute drive east or west takes you to a multitude of fine establishments. The Ashby Inn is located to the west in Paris. To the east is Middleburg with the Red Fox Inn, Salamander Resort, King Street Oyster Bar, Side Saddle Cafe, and Thaiverse, to name but a few.
