HERE'S A LITTLE HISTORY OF OUR HOME:
This beautiful Mansion was built and designed in 1910 by Gonzales entrepreneur, O.B. Robertson. He was an attorney before taking up banking as well as involved in farming and lumber. Robertsons' most known endeavor was building a brick company on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Gonzales, first called the Sunset Brick Company, later Robertson renamed it, The Gonzales Brick Company. Interesting enough this Mansion is not built out of the brick from the Gonzales Brick Company. Rumor has it, that Robertson wanted a different brick than what was in most of the town. So he traded his brick to his friendly competitor named, D'Hanis. You will find most of the buildings on the Gonzales Square made out of this brick.
This breathtaking jewel is located on a beautifully manicured acre of natural beauty on the edge of the official Texas historical museum district. The Gonzales museum is walking distance from the Mansion and is where the famous "Come & Take It" cannon is located; which shot the First shot of the Texas Revolution. The elegant entrance opens onto one of the most historic residential avenues in the state of Texas – the avenue of ancient oaks where Sam Houston, his troops, and the population of Gonzales heroically marched to Texas victory and independence in 1836.
Gonzales, the home of “Come and Take It” the battle cry where the first shot of the Texas revolutionary war happened, is an irresistible, carefully planned canvas of historic homes, churches and museums, of public park lands and playgrounds, just ten minutes south of interstate 10 on an inviting stretch of hwy 183 as it winds its way to the Texas coast.
A short one-hour drive time to Austin and San Antonio and a little more to Houston and the gulf coast, Gonzales is among the most desirable locations in the state.
In the heart of the eagle ford shale oil and gas activity, economic indicators place Gonzales as one of the wealthiest rural counties in the nation within the next five years. With its charming 19th century storefronts, five Texas history museums, and avenue upon avenue of elegant historic homes, the quality of life opportunity and economic potential of life in Gonzales today is unparalleled.
