Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a wonderful week with friends at the Lodge. Central location on MDI but away from the crowds and traffic of Bar Harbor. I would definitely consider renting again and would recommend the property to family and friends.

Both couples agree - What a glorious time we had and this wonderful home was perfect. Thanks for much for the delayed check out, well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, beautiful views off the deck, inviting living room sofa and chairs, the peaceful quiet and all the other touches that made us feel welcomed and relaxed. Folks, you won't be disappointed. I promise.

Mostly Amazing

  • 3 of 5

I loved the property, the secluded lake is nice to sit at in the morning, and has a great view of the stars at night. The cabin is welcoming and provides (almost) everything you need, which is great. I cooked several meals in the kitchen and each time was able to find everything I needed.

The only complaints would be that there was no laundry detergent provided, which is strange because you are expected to put the bedding in the wash before you leave (a minor annoyance but for the price it should be available). The oven is a little finnicky, it took almost an hour for a sheet pan of bacon to actually cook through (again, really a minor issue).

The biggest grievance I had was with the quality (or lack thereof) of the mattresses. The master bedroom's mattress was by far the worst, we were a group of four and each unsuccessfully tried to make it work. Two of us ended up sleeping in the two twin beds for a majority of the time, which would be fine if we were single, or children. I was really dispirited when my in-laws (who had rented the cabin about 5-6 years previous) walked in saying 'I really hope they changed the mattresses' and I knew they would be dissapointed. They ended up leaving for the last night, opting to rent a hotel room in order to get good sleep for the long drive home.

I really wanted to love this property, and I mostly did. But the incredibly uncomfortable beds really overshadowed all of the positive qualities of the cabin.

Owner's Response: I am happy that you liked the cabin and am truly sorry that you found the mattresses not to your liking. I send out a feedback form and have had only 2 or 3 comments over a more than ten-year period complaining about the mattresses, so I was surprised to hear that they were such a problem. Moreover, about 1/3 of my renters are repeats. If they found the mattresses to be a problem I am certain they would have complained and not made a return visit. Since your review, I have altered the feedback form so that there is now a specific question about the comfort of the beds so we can track this more specifically. Age-wise the mattress in the downstairs bedroom is only a few years old and the upstairs one will be replaced soon, possibly with a less-firm style mattress. Thanks for your feedback and I'm truly sorry you were uncomfortable. Sincerely, Alice Harper

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

It was our first time to Maine and the Harper Lodge was perfect. Accommodations, from the Kitchen to the amenities in the bathrooms and bedrooms were very nice. The large deck and new Weber grill was very convenient and relaxing. Beautiful property, with smells of the evergreen forest and only sounds were of the forest. We found location convenient to Acadia park loop road and to Bar harbor.

Comfort and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a comfortable place to sit back

and relax after a day of exploring the Island.

I spent two weeks at this modern log Cabin with friends. We had plenty of room, found the cabin to be very comfortable as well as convenient for heading off to any destination we chose in and around the Acadia Park. The cabin inside and out was both relaxing and clean. The inside is complete with furnishings, kitchen supplies and entertainment.

Several times I saw deer across the pond and we may have seen the brightest

and clearest view of the Milky Way that I have ever witnessed. Neighbors are few

and out of view. If you enjoy country living, this is the place.

Refreshing, relaxing, memorbale vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Harper's Acadia Lodge, and its beautiful surroundings. The house came equipped with every possible amenity, and then some! A great retreat, close to all the action, but not too close. We loved exploring the area and wished we could stay longer. We will definitely be back soon, a fabulous house and Bar Harbor is just spectacular. Lulu the Lobster Boat tour is a must!

Car: necessary

Come to Bar Harbor, the first place to see the Sun in the United States. Mount Desert Island's (MDI) unique topography provides a mixture of natural woodlands, waterways and mountains. Experience activities ranging from golf, fishing, birding, biking, boating to mountain climbing all without leaving MDI. Take a mail boat to the Cranberry Islands. Climb the 'Bubbles' and then reward yourself with high tea at Jordon Pond House where giant popovers and strawberry jam are made using the same recipe originally used in the late 1800's
