The Pink Cottage on beautiful Damariscotta Lake. Available until December 10th

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedroom,1 bath cottage on beautiful Damariscotta, Lake

The Pink Cottage, on Damariscotta Lake, is the place to be this fall. The second week in October is a great time to see the the giant pumpkins painted and carved for the Pumpkinfest. It's only 8 miles from the Pink Cottage. You can see all the goings on at the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest website. The foliage is at it's best at this time of year.

A private beach, dock and swim float makes a perfect spot to spend the day. Our sunroom looks out across the lawn and onto the lake where you can catch a glimpse of one of our resident eagles as well as loons and osprey.

It's a great place to relax and enjoy the lake, wildlife and lovely sunrises. The cottage accommodates 6 people in 2 bedrooms and a loft which has limited headroom (5 feet). One first floor bed room has a queen bed and the other has two twins. The loft has two twin size beds. The cottage has basic cable tv and wireless internet. You can bring your own streaming device, the tv has an HDMI port An enclosed sun-room overlooking the lake, a fully equipped kitchen, a living/dining room and a newly renovated bathroom with shower finish out the first floor. There's a large deck, expansive lawn and a huge stone fire pit. We supply a canoe and three kayaks, two sit in and one sit upon kayak. A public boat landing is just up the road so you can launch your boat from there and tie it up to our dock.

Our favorite thing to do is have our coffee out on the deck in the morning and watch the lake come to life. During the day when you're not swimming you can take a break in the hammock or in the hammock chair which is hanging lakeside.

About 8 miles away is the town of Damariscotta. There you can find grocery stores, a large health food store, a bookstore, many wonderful restaurants, lots of galleries, gift shops and, of course, Reny's and Round Top Ice Cream. There is a top notch library and YMCA if you need to get some extra exercise.

During the fall you can sit lakeside on a sunny day or sit in the sun-room and watch the eagles as they look for fish in the afternoon. You can sit around the stone fire pit in the evenings. Take a side trip to the mountains or down to the ocean. The changes of color on the trees is spectacular as is the calmness of the lake in the morning. The first Sunday in Oct. there is the Oyster Festival in 'Scotty' and the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta is usually held on Columbus day weekend, one of the most beautiful times in Maine. Giant painted and carved pumpkins, a parade, music and so much more. All of these activities are only 8 miles from the Pink Cottage.

The morning and the evening are the best times in the fall for a canoe ride. The lake is like glass and the reflection of the trees on the lake is spectacular. We have a Renai in the living room as well as in the basement if you need some heat to keep you warm during those chilly fall days. We don't allow use of the fireplace in the cottage.

So come join us at the Pink Cottage for a quiet time away

About Ellen or Wilder Hunt

The Pink Cottage is owned by Ellen and Wilder Hunt, local residents who enjoy sharing the cottage with their children, grandchildren and visitors to the area.

Why Ellen or Wilder Hunt chose Mid-Coast & Islands

Hi, my name is Danica and my parents own the Pink Cottage. They inherited it from my grandparents, so I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Now I live in Maidens, VA, but I bring my family here for two weeks every summer. My children Camden (17) and Raegan (15) love to swim, fish and kayak on the lake. They play badminton and whiffle ball on the lawn and, at night, roast marshmallows over the bonfire in the fire pit. Their time at the Pink Cottage is consistently the highlight of their year. I am so pleased to be able to share this special place with my children. If you decide to visit, I know it will find a lasting place in your heart.

The Pink Cottage is located on Damariscotta Lake, about 8 miles from the town of Damariscotta. The month of October is a super time to stay with us. First, we have the Pumpkinfest which starts on Oct 7 and displays the pumpkins throughout the month and then you have a chance to tour the area's colorful foliage display.

The little town has about anything that you would need from a first class library to a health food store, a YMCA, two groceries, multiple gift shops, ice cream stands and restaurants galore.

Round Top ice cream and Reny's both are can't miss spots.

In the town of Boothbay you'll find the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden which has a wonderful reputation.

On rainy days you can take the kids to Waldoboro's All Sports Bowling, check out one of the wonderful restaurants or just curl up on the sun porch with a good book.

Th Hidden Valley Nature Center is not far from the cottage, It has lots of hiking trails to try out. About 4 miles from the cottage is the Oxbow Brewery where they have tastings and other activities going on during the summer.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a great place to experience the coast. You can climb on the rocks or just enjoy the waves crashing on shore.

Most of the time you'll just want to hang out at the cottage enjoying the activities on the lake.

This is a beautiful place to spend a week. While the kids play on the beach or jump off the float you can be joining them, stretching out in the hammock or just relaxing on the large lawn with a drink in hand. We are sorry to say but we do not allow fireworks on our property. They are too disruptive to the local eagle population. We do provide trash pickup once a week.

Great cottage, well stocked, exceptionally clean, beautiful view! What more could anyone want?

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to Maine was in 1973 and we stayed at the Pink Cottage! It was such a delight to return and see all the changes made over time. The surrounding area is beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed relaxing and sitting on the glassed-in porch enjoying the view of the lake, as well as exploring the immediate area. Ellen and Wilder Hunt are perfect hosts and very available to see to any need or question that you may have.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Pink Cottage was a perfect little Maine cottage on the lake. We enjoyed our stay very much and the lake was very nice. The cottage is very well stocked. Ellen (owner) was very helpful and showed us everything when we got there. The lake water was cold in late May early June when we were there but the kids went swimming anyway and enjoyed it. The cottage was in a great location to everything. You can drop down the the coast or drive up route 1 to get to other points of interest. Note: Go the speed limit in Maine no matter how painfully slow it is because we saw people pulled over several times for speeding. This was the family's first time to Maine and we loved it! You will have a great time here and this cottage is a great place to stay if you want slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet and still be able to travel to all the points of interest around. Thanks Ellen for everything!

Quiet and relaxing place to unwind.

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation at the Pink Cottage was a very enjoyable experience. Ellen was there to greet us and showed us around . Everything we needed was in the cottage. We enjoyed cooking on the new weber grill that was provided. The kayaking was great as well as the fishing. The local stores were a short drive away. The fire pit was enjoyable to relax by in the evening , wood was provided . Sitting on the porch in the morning watching the sun rise over the lake was a wonderful way to start each day. This was everything we were expecting and more.

Damariscotta Cottage rental exceeds our expectations

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the Cottage after a 5 hour ride from Massachusetts to be greeted by a bald eagle flying over the dock. There was a loon family floating by the raft off the beach. The lake was beautiful and there were more eagles flying over the two islands opposite the beach.

Now about the cottage, it was immaculate and it seemed that the dishes, silverware and the gas grill were either new or super clean. The beds were really comfortable with a lot of cross ventilation. The kitchen had everything we needed.

The sunroom overlooks the lake and the ample deck outside had a picnic table and other casual chairs. There is a fire pit down by the lake that we had fun with, as well as another picnic table.

We went to Louis Doe’s in Newcastle to get fishing tackle and fished off of the dock. Canoeing was great and we went to one of the nearby islands and picked a quart of wild blueberries!!!

For shopping for food there is a Hannefords and a large organic food market15 minutes away in Damariscotta as well as Round Top ice cream and downtown Damariscotta provided many shops and restaurants.

From New Harbor near Damariscotta we took a boat to Monhegan Island, highly recommended!

An not to forget the great rope hammock and the rope hammock chair that swings slightly over the lake! One of us spent hours reading there!

Does it get any better than this? After coming to Maine and specifically Lake Damariscotta for 40 years this place beats all I have seen!!

Thanks to Ellen and Wilder for providing a great vacation spot!!

Great Canoeing from the Pink House

  • 5 of 5

We selected this house for a stay on Lake Damariscotta because it came with the use of a canoe (actually 2 canoes and 2 kayaks, but we stuck with one canoe) and were not disappointed. For our September stay the lake was almost a private waterway for us. There's much to explore, and in one week we did not even reach all the possible places to paddle that were within our range. Besides seeing an eagle and a few osprey, along with many more common birds, we also had our first-ever sightings in the wild of a beaver and of a weasel. Very exciting.

The cabin itself is very cosy, and the kitchen very well equipped. The screened in porch is wonderful, and we spent many hours there. When we had a few cold nights, the heating system was quiet and efficient.

The best part of the deal is Ellen. She is very friendly and most, most helpful. We were traveling by bicycle and shopping for groceries was going to be a challenge, as it's 7 hilly miles from the supermarket to the cabin. No problem, said Ellen. She met us at the store and carried our week's supply of food and our bike luggage by car while we rode our now lightweight tandem bike to the cabin.

This place is is a real find. You'll have a great week (or more) here.
