Beautiful Property

If you love historical houses, this is the place for you! It is absolutely beautiful. The woodwork is pristine, the ceilings are incredibly high. The windows are amazing. It is in a great location. You can walk to the Fox theater and SLU, among other midtown jewels. We loved the townhome. It was perfect for us. We would definitely stay here again.

This place was great. My wife and kids loved it and we had a great time. Our hosts were on the ball and answer every question promptly and to the point. We would definitely recommend this place and we will be back next summer.

serious concerns about this

I stopped and took time as I departed to document the disabled smoke alarm and dysfunctional fire escape serving the 2nd floor rooms. The rooms are all located above a commercial kitchen and there were no sprinklers added in the remodel. The fire marshal needs to be notified and reassess the danger here. Future safety is my motivation for leaving this review.

Also of note, the entire balcony was boarded up with cheap plywood. When the toilet flushes the sink in the kitchenette gurgles - very gross at the least. A dangerous hidden step-down exists between shower and sink and bare plywood left when viewed from below. I fell but was able to catch myself. Excess paint and gaps in baseboard installation further evidence the remodel was not professional.

Aside from safety concerns, the ceiling of the second floor booms with every single footstep overhead. On the worst night we were kept awake past midnight, awoke to a 3:15am restroom break and finally the 5am departure of the guest above. Other nights were less extreme and presumably experiences on other floors would be different but having a guest of any sort above you on floor 2 is a miserable experience.

This property was abandoned for decades and sits in a vacant development zone with empty lots as neighbors. It's an admirable effort to turn it into something viable, but there is no excuse for disabled smoke alarms and neglected escape routes. Something is amiss in the ambition of the owners to promote this space in the state it was in. Safety should come first. Comfort next. Only then can your guests enjoy being wowed by what could have been beautiful.

Owner's Response: Just so our future Guest will know, Matt from our area (St. Louis) is referring to Unit #B. Thus far our location has been in business for 6 plus years. And, we have hosted a few thousand Guests from around the world. Matt's Real Motivation for writing this is based upon a couple of reasons. But, we will only address one. Unfortunately, during the course of Matt's stay we were forced to ask Matt to take control of his 2 sons and his younger girlfriend. We only asked that his two sons and younger friend "be considerate and not trash other peoples properties", as they did ours. It was not our intention to hurt Matt's feelings. Thus, him becoming so disgruntled, trying to put down this building. However, his 2 sons actions were something that we have never experienced from anyone else's child. But, hopefully for the sake of other VRBO renters he will take the time to educate and teach his two sons and young girlfriend to be more considerate when renting someone else's property. As a side note Matt's facts are incorrect / false regarding: - The smoke detectors. All smoke detectors in the building, on all levels are hard wired and interlinked together. What that means is....if one smoke detector goes off all will respond. And, each is equipped with a back up battery. There are a total of 24 interlinked smoke detectors thru out the building (including 3 inside the Flat that Matt rented.) Every room in the building has a hardwired smoke detector. - Sprinkler system should have been installed on the second floor because there is a commercial kitchen? We are not sure where that comes from. The only thing that we ask is, do not do like Matt. Please review responsibly. Do not tell a story that is half true and make things up and then camouflage it in the form of a review.

Excellent place with warm, friendly hosts

Vacation rentals and B&B’s have always been my preferred form of lodging. Grand Center Inn stands head and shoulders above every other experience. We LOVE this place!

Our hosts Renato and Eric went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Eric always had a sunny disposition and was eager to provide assistance with anything we needed… from recommendations for a good jogging route, to coordinating last minute airport transportation when our taxi was a no show.

With a bad back, I rarely manage extended stays without missing my premium mattress. It was great to sleep well and awake each day “rearing to go”. The shower was nice & and hot with top quality fixtures.

This is a beautifully restored historic building with modern comforts everyone can appreciate... flat screen televisions, Keurig coffee and reliable Wi-Fi. And frankly, the photos do NOT do this place justice. It is beautiful!

The property is located in the heart of the Theatre district. As women traveling alone, safety is a high priority. I’d selected this place for that reason. We enjoyed a peaceful stay and felt comfortable enough to explore the area on foot several times. Our week-long visit could not have been more delightful. We had become so attached to the inn; we spent our final evening playing a game of Clue in the parlor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend the Grand Center Inn to other travelers!

If you love tall ceilings, pocket doors, large glass window, original wood floors and all of the other things that go along with Historic buildings you will love this 1888 house. When this property was originally built, it was the original home to Elizabeth Meriwether, a suffragist, and the first woman to cast a vote in the state of Tennessee.
