About Helen Magee and Dennis Magee
Dennis Magee grew up in Eastern Massachusetts but spent many years in Western Massachusetts during his attendance at UMass-Amherst. Helen Magee grew up in rural Western Massachusetts and graduated from Northampton Commercial College (NCC). We met in the Spring of 1973 at a Polish Polka dance in Hatfield, MA., and were married on June 1, 1974. We have two grown sons, and we currently live in a log cabin home in Groton, Massachusetts. Dennis is a botanist by profession and spent his career working at Normandeau Associates in N.H. as an Environmental Consultant. Helen was a career Executive Secretary at Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq and HP.

Why Helen Magee and Dennis Magee chose Harrington
Dennis' environmental work placed him in Maine for many years. Each year on our anniversary we would travel to Maine on vacation and, we couldn't help but fall in love with Downeast Maine. With each passing anniversary, we started to explore what our options would be to have a little cabin somewhere on the coast of Maine -- somewhere way North of Bar Harbor so we could enjoy peace and tranquility and be away from summer tourism. We settled on a Bay property so that we would not be affected by Nor'easters. We feel blessed that we were able to accomplish our dream, and therefore we want to share this little cottage with others for a nominal price.
What makes this Cottage unique
Located on a small island away from but still with reasonable access to a major population center. Small population of fishermen and lobstermen and small seasonal population of mostly retirees. Very quiet and peaceful. Facing west toward the sunset and away from the prevailing Northeast winds. Fresh seafood readily available within walking distance and at reasonable price. Numerous coastal hiking, boating, kayaking, fishing and bird-watching opportunities close near by. Truly a place for spiritual renewal.

Great location to relax and explore Downeast Maine!
Beautiful cabin, welcoming feel and a well stocked kitchen, which we really made use of during our stay. Easy access to Route 1 for exploring the area. The Magee's were great, called to check-in with us mid week and left lots of advice on local hikes, food, etc. Highly recommend!
A FANTASTIC PRIVATE LITTLE CABIN !!
My wife and I spent a week here at the end of the summer season. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need to make any meal. (LOVE THE CAST IRON FRYING PANS).
It was cool a couple of nights and we got to use the wood stove, nothing like a wood fire. Your own stretch of rocky Maine coast line its really neat the difference from high and low tide,There is a charcoal and gas grill wood fire ring and hammock and chairs. Don't wait til the end of your week to check out Pettit Mannon area ,there is a small sand beach and rocky coast. On the way over to bar harbor at the bridge see the sign for tidal falls check that out when the tide is going out. We had nice relaxing trip and plan to return some time in the future, Thank you Helen and Dennis for letting us enjoy your cabin.
We are very pleased that our guests enjoyed their stay at our cottage and thought enough of their experience to write such a nice review. We have been renting now to summer guests for quite a number of years, and have taken constructive criticisms to insure a quality experience for all future renters. We feel that our guests should experience what we ourselves would expect in renting a vacation cottage, and have striven to make our cottage as comfortable as a second home. We enjoy sharing our cottage with quality people who can appreciate the amenities and the area; the vast majority of our guests fit this profile, and as a result the rental experience has been rewarding for us as well.
Peaceful, restful and perfect Maine cabin
We travel to New England every fall from North Carolina, always looking for a perfect retreat. For many years we camped because we were able to experience nature without the crowds. Then we discovered this gem on Bar Island. The log cabin is cozy and perfect for two people. It is very clean and well equipped. The bed is very comfortable. The screen porch is the perfect place to watch the beautiful sunsets. Outside you have all the privacy you want with no close neighbors. It is quiet day and night, with only the sound of a lobster boat in the bay. Dennis and Helen McGee are great hosts and very easy to work with, checking in to make sure things are going ok and offering good advice on things to see and do. This cabin is close enough to Acadia to allow you to enjoy all that has to offer, which we took advantage of, but we spent a lot of our time “at home”. That is just how inviting this place is. This is one of our favorites and we hope to return.
Greg and Peggy
Greg and Peggy Plapp were superb guests; very appreciative of what our cabin and its location had to offer. Upon their departure they left our cabin immaculate! They are truly quality people, the sort of guests anyone would love to have. We would welcome their return anytime.

An Amazingly Quiet Retreat!
The owners Helen and Dennis were the perfect hosts for their lovely cabin on quiet Bar Island. I cannot say enough good things about this experience and would definitely return.
Larry and Dana were wonderful guests! Very thoughtful -- quality folks. The cabin was left spotless. We would welcome their return anytime!

Beautiful, away from it all
This is a beautiful cabin. It was love at first sight for my family. It was the whole package--clean, quiet, private, stocked with everything you need. It was convenient to Acadia and many other attractions. The local food is amazing. Our hosts were great and helpful. We would definitely return again!
Lori, we appreciate your thoughtful review of your stay at our cabin. We feel blessed to have this cabin, and so we love to share it with other folks such as yourself. We hope you returned home renewed by the peacefulness of this area. Should you ever vacation in this part of Downeast, Maine, again, we would welcome your stay.
Again, we thank you for taking the time to write your thoughtful review.

Comfy, clean cabin in a beautiful spot!
My husband and I stayed at the cabin in early June for a week of kayaking on the nearby lakes and ponds (Donnell, Tunk, Flanders). We loved having a spot to return to as we explored the area and this was the perfect place. The cabin is quite spacious and is fully outfitted with everything you need. There are benches and a hammock by the water, and we spent a few nights watching the sunset over the bay, sipping wine on the huge screened-in porch. Even though it was early in the season there were several restaurants around (I highly recommend Christopher's on Eagle Hill!) and Winter Harbor/Schoodic point is only about 20 minutes away. The owners are very accessible if you have questions and a friendly neighbor gave us good kayaking advice. You won't find a lot of tourists here, but you will find the beauty of Maine's woods and waters!
A few miles, across the bay, Pigeon Hill is an easy 20-minute hike to the top and affords spectacular viewing of Frenchman's Bay with numerous islands and peninsulas.
Petit Manan Federal Wildlife Refuge -- Located just a few miles away across the bay. An easy one-mile hike to the coast affords spectacular and remote ocean-front hiking.
McClelland State Park -- About 4 miles out of Milbridge town center, along a secondary (but paved) road. This Park affords parking and a very short hike to the coast. Good picnicking area.
Bar Island itself, where the cottage is located, offers striped bass fishing from shore. Tunk Lake, about 30 miles away, offers freshwater boating, kayaking and fishing.
A lobster pound, where fresh lobster and crab, may be purchased is located on the island 1/2 mile from the cottage. A seafood market is located two miles from the cottage on Pigeon Hill Road.
Schoodic Point, part of Acadia National Park, is a beautiful area for a picnicking and/or to just walk along the rocky coast, and is only 20 minutes from the cottage. It is accessible by auto.
About 30 miles north along the coast is Great Wass Island, a Nature Conservancy preserve, that offers spectacular, remote hiking along the coast.
Acadia National Park at Bar Harbor is about an hour from the Cottage. It offers over 50 hiking trails affording numerous spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay. The top of Cadillac Mountain is accessible by vehicle. Within Acadia is Sand Beach (an ocean-front beach) with restroom facilities, and Echo Lake beach (fresh water). Scenic driving and bicycling of a historic carriage road system with coblestone bridges. The Loop Road is a 'must do'. Jordon Pond has a very scenic nature trail along the perimeter and a restaurant on the premises.
The village of Bar Harbor offers numerous shops and restaurants, whale watching and wildlife viewing boat tours. Kayaking is also available.
