Great property for a large group. Well appointed. We had some questions at check in and the manager and maintenance people were very quick to address the issue. Beautiful historic home right on the beach that houses a large group comfortably.

Hi Mary!
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We hope to see you again!
We had a lovely time in this very unique and spacious villa at Old Orchard Beach. There was room for everyone with the ocean spread out before us. The management was very responsive and our stay was memorable. We enjoyed imagining the many stories this building would tell us if it could, and were pleased to be one of the stories it could tell going forward.
We had a great time with our family and friends hanging out on the beach and at the house! Plenty of space for everyone and places for all of our stuff! Full large kitchen to prep family meals! The building could use a few repairs, some of the mattresses could be updated. For the price we can’t complain! Loved the history and old craftsmanship of this unique beach house!
We loved this beautiful old home on the beach! Note that it is an old home a does require some love but we would go back for the comfort, the tranquility, the privacy and the AMAZING view. Thank you!

2023 Beach Vacation
You can’t beat the location of this property. Beautiful beach and views. The house has the potential to be beauty however it does have issues such as leaks in ceilings which caused out little niece to slip and fall. Calls to address this remained unanswered. The grill didn’t work and we were sent a brand new one the next morning so that was great service.
Our two weeks at the Villa from June 29 to July 13 were great. The beachfront location is fantastic allowing young and old guests easy access in and out. The beach is not crowded so we always had plenty of space. We had children/grandchildren first week and brothers/sisters/cousins second week spanning multiple generations of our family. The building is almost 100 years old and has an interesting history (Charles Lindberg slept there). It is now more eclectic than luxurious which was actually more alluring to our guests. We had plenty of space for dining/socializing/playing/sleeping/working. The hosts quickly resolved minor (TV remotes, trash pickup) and major (dryer not heating requiring new heating coil) items. We hope to return.

A Hot Mess
I think the title pretty much says it all. I'm giving the property 3 stars because of it's location and size, everything else about the property is, let's just say, lacking.
It's definitely ready to be taken out of commission. Half of it isn't functional at all. We described our experience as "camping at the beach". My guess is that the owners are trying to get every last dime out of it before tearing it down. So if you're OK with staying at a decrepit old mansion, in a great location, then this is the property for you.
Our family rents a home each year. We saw this home and thought it had a fun charm about it. We told our grandchildren we were going to stay in a castle. It was right on the beach. Such a beautiful spot. When we arrived we were shocked at the state of the the house. I’m okay with it needing some upgrades. After all it’s an older home and we knew that. We pulled in and the first thing I noticed was the broken window. It was in reach of our 3 yr old grandson who is too curious . There was a leak coming from the ceiling in the entry way and a puddle of water on the floor. I decided to walk around the property. There were beer bottles under the porch and cigarette butts all around. . So many dangerous wires dangling off the roof and we had no idea if they were live. Honestly I could go on and on and on. In short this is clearly a party house and not for families. This home is booked until next year at this time. I’m shocked. This home has many safety problems. No lock on basement doors, some doors in bedrooms get stuck and you can’t open them from the inside, and no plugs for tubs to give kids baths. My husband worked tirelessly and we were able to get a refund and vrbo put us up in a hotel until we found a new house to rent. Very disappointed to say the least.

Based on all of our previous reviews from multiple guests during the years, we can see that everyone truly loves and enjoys the house and its breathtaking location.
The window situation was very unfortunate as the window cracked from the BBQ heat and it takes time to have a glass this size made and installed. We however suggested to secure it for you.
There was ONE beer bottle on the front side of the house.
It is interesting to us that although you found the house so unsafe, you refused to leave and insisted to stay another night, for free. We suggested local hotels who had availability that night for you, but you rejected this suggestion so we agreed to accommodate you, but kindly asked you to leave 1st thing in the morning. To our surprise you did not vacate our very unsafe home until late afternoon.
As to the refund,. we released and approved it that same night which you can easily verify with your bank.
Thank you!

Could be amazing
This could be such an amazing house. As others have stated, it is out of date and is in some serious need of some TLC. I really wanted to love this place but it was quite the adventure.
The good is all about the space and location. There is plenty of space to move around for a large group and the beach is awesome. It felt extremely private. Very quite nights and nobody within 100 feet of you on the beach. As long as I was on the beach, life was good.
The not so great list is pretty long.
I'll start with the non-existent check-in. Tried contacting the owner and received no response. Thankfully the house was completely unlocked when we got there. There is no way to lock up the house as the doors are trashed and the basement leads to a non-lockable outside door.
The house itself was not dirty, but not clean either. Mold on the ceilings of the bathroom and shower curtains Outdoor area not cleaned either, trash found on the patio. Had to wash all dishes as they were dirty or completely chipped up. BTW they only have 4 coffee mugs and 10 forks. If you have more than 10, you'll need to bring your own silverware.
No smoke/CO2 detectors, outlets are exposed/hanging out of the wall.
Water pressure is non existent in multiple showers, some showers barely work, so plan ahead.
Fridge leaks, beverage cooler runs so hot we were concerned about a fire hazard, especially with no smoke detectors.
Overall beach was awesome, house was unsecure and uncared for.

Great location, so-so house
Pros: I mean, it is right on the beach. And a good part of the beach, too. And walking-distance to the pier. The host was flexible with us about how many guests--we had 24, they were listed as up to 20. Easy pet policy--our well-behaved dog was with us and there was no extra fee. We did kennel him when we weren't at the house, but only as a precaution on our end. The host didn't even ask. There are lots of bathrooms, and enough beds for 17 people (assuming double-occupancy for most of them). Plenty of parking. Two big balconies.
Cons: The house is not well-cared for. One of the showers wasn't working. The downstairs bathroom sink had no hot water. Mildew growing on the bathroom ceilings. The faucet of one tub had to be shoved back in each time you turned the shower on to keep it from falling out. The basement and attic should be cleaned up or locked off to prevent kids injuring themselves. 3 of the adults in our group decided to sleep on the couches/buy air mattresses because their beds were so bad (all were bad, actually). No furniture on the balconies. The kitchen had very little silverware, bowls, glasses (but plenty of plates). But the biggest issue: the house was not clean enough. Spiderwebs in many corners. The floors, especially, needed a deep cleaning to remove possibly years of grime. The windows need to be washed. There was trash in the yard, including broken toys and used napkins. Finally, host was mostly unresponsive to anything--including inquiries about checkin
Old. Unique. Historic. Spacious. Parking. Big Beach.
We were impressed with the turnover cleanliness.
We started with a difficult stay. I called five different people before our Saturday and never got check-in instructions other than the old Vrbo listings wording: 'Check-out is 11am, and Check-in is 4pm'. Well, we let ourselves in and there is no guestbook or additional information about the house or contacts. We noted that the online pictures are relatively old and don't even capture some of the property's strengths.
The property manager visited Saturday evening and ensured things were in good order for us. The next day we investigated a septic smell from the basement. It was bad. This fabulous beach house is a hundred years old. The manager gained a star back for addressing the issue promptly and being very open to hearing about any other issues and following up with us.
Because of our initial issues and our price point, I had to mentally allocate a large chunk of our payment to the unique and historical value of the building. Also valuable: the spacious beachside parking, fantastic interior square footage, and the sweet fact that the beach was nearly empty in front of the villa every day, all day long. Rental money is not paying for "nice and new".
This is an old building, and while exciting and fun, it has some difficult maintenance issues from 100 years on a Maine beach. I think the listing should be more clear on this point: If you are not concerned with old and used mixed with a patchwork of repair, and are looking for a very charming property with ample space for a large family, then this house is for you.
We all loved our stay at this historic "Castillo Del Mar".

Majestic mansion needs some TLC
The location is beautiful, the house accommodated 10 adults, 2 children, one dog comfortably. The home needs TLC and and was not as clean as other properties we have rented. The pool table was damaged, the ping pong table was missing, the furniture pictured was not the furniture that was actually at the property, the WiFi was spotty and did not work half the time. I would love to rent this property again if some of the issues were corrected.

Spanish villa
The house is beautiful and perfect for large groups and even small children. The lower level is wide open and there are couple of different sections of 2 stairs so if you have small ones who are crawling could be a bit stressful. . We ended up putting gate up for the one stairway and that worked well for the 15month old.
There was plenty of bedrooms/ beds for everyone to sleep comfortably. The beds were comfortable. We had 8 people stay the week and all had enough space. The outdoor patio furniture was perfect and the path to the beach on property was awesome. The beach has miles of sand and was beautiful. The WiFi was very spotty so if you needed to work while there may be a bit difficult. We found WiFi cut out if you were in the master bedroom. We did not mind since we were on vacation. I would definitely recommend house to anyone.
We were a group of 20. The property was right on the beach which is what we wanted. The location is perfect. The house is old. The kitchen was modern and completely functional. The washer and dryer were new and ran continuously while we were there. The great room downstairs fits many people. As an old house, the electric plug outlets were a bit dated and insufficient for a modern world of portable electronics. We made do. The upstairs has four bathrooms. The sink did not drain in the master bathroom. The toilet in the master ran continuously but finally stopped. The shower leaked in one but repaired itself. The property owners are responsive to messages and very nice. There's plenty of hot water for showers. I gave cleanliness a four rather than five only because we needed more trash containers outside. We made lots of trash. I would highly recommend this house for big groups and would return there for another vacation.

Wonderful Potential
Overall we enjoyed the property. The location is amazing and the property was very functional. Our biggest concern was communication with the owner prior to check in. We tried to reach out a few days before our arrival and we got no response. We called HA and they never got back to us. We ran into the cleaning service and they gave us the lock box info. Unsure how things would have gone if that did not happen. It did cause undue stress. Place could use some TLC to be REALLY nice.

Amazing
The week we spent in this place was amazing. The pictures do not do it justice. The balconies on the top floor give spectacular views. The house is very big with lots of places to get away from family if you need to. The access to the beach is walking down a dune grass pathway. The beach is huge. Can't wait to come back. The price is little to pay for the great memories we had during our stay.
