Ask a questionAbout Todd and Susan Miller
The owners and managers of the Lighthouse are Todd and Susan Miller. Susan is originally from Duluth Mn and Todd from the Twin Cities. They have sailed the world's oceans together on their 35 foot sloop 'Snow Day', and have now settled down here in Grand Marais since 2003. Todd is a licensed Captain, and served on the local park board for many years and currently serves on the Planning and Zoning board. He is also active in community projects with area youth and founded the Grand Marais Music Collaborative, a 501 3c non profit benefiting area youth and musicians. Susan is the Special Education teacher at the local charter school. Todd's interests include leading a local dance band, building and restoring fun things, messing about in boats, and managing Real Estate. Susans interests include gardening, thrift store exploring, and cooking. They both love to travel and learn.
Todd and Susan Miller purchased this studio in 2002
Why Todd and Susan Miller chose Grand Marais
We chose this location because it is very special. We are lifelong Miinnesotans and have been passing through Grand Marais our whole lives. We wanted a home on the North Shore, and we believe that Grand Marais is the jewel of the North Shore. Within Grand Marais we wanted to be close to the action and the water. Although this is a very small town, it has big shoulders when it comes to culture and beauty. We belive our specific location is magical because the big lake cools us in summer and warms us in winter. We can walk to everything. We never get tired of the many moods of Lake Superior and enjoy watching the lake from this property.
What makes this studio unique
Covid-19 requirements. All guests must agree. We are happy to accept your reservation. We have adopted a protocol that protects both you and our cleaners from COVID-19. And most importantly, we insist that you join us in protecting our aging resident population in Grand Marais. We have a disproportionately older population of elderly here and our community is very firm about refusing guests who do not take the need for social distancing as seriously as everyone here does. While in Grand Maris you MUST maintain 6 feet of distance at all times with anyone outside of your family group. If you are unable to do so you must take action to resolve the situation. Some hiking trails and sidewalks can be tight and if you can't maintain 6' feet of distance please sort it out before it is a problem. We strongly recommend wearing masks in public. Please respect our sensitivities up here. At the time of writing this we have NO cases of Covid-19 in our county. Our simple clinic can not handle any cases of Covid, we have no ventilators and no ICU. Your actions will help ensure that we maintain our good health and protect our vulnerable population. If guests are flaunting our requirements we will likely be shut down by area authorities or choose to shut down ourselves. So please be excellent ambassadors for all visitors to Grand Marais. 1) Are any in your group experiencing any signs of illness such as coughing, aches, or fever? We can not accept any guests with these symptoms. Please respond that all are healthy. 2) If any in your group have been diagnosed with Covid-19 or suspect that you may have had undiagnosed Covid -19 in the last two weeks we can not host you. Please cancel this reservation request. 3) Has everyone in your group been effectively socially isolating for the previous 3 weeks prior to your arrival in our community? If not, please cancel this reservation request due to reasons stated above. If you have been doing any traveling prior to coming here, please c
